Came in on a Monday night. The bartender Renee was fun and drinks were great. Had the agave Margarita and boyfriend had the seasonal Egg Nog special. King Salmon was delicious, biggest portion of salmon I’ve ever had. Boyfriend had the scampi he loved it. Huge portions. Delicious food. Great atmosphere. We will be back.

Charming, friendly restaurant with interesting food. The short rib entrée was very large. Plenty to take home for the next day. I had chicken marsala and it was delicious and tender, and again a generous serving. I would definitely go back.

This place is pretty darn good! Had a great steak and it was on point! Salads were fantastic as were the drinks! We had such a good time there we were the last people to leave. Be back often!

The manager during Sunday Brunch? He needs some tact. As our group started reviewing the bill, he hovered next to the table and jumped in to offer splitting the bill. Sure, that makes our lives easier. The bill comes back and it’s been split 50÷50… not by person, not by dishes, not by any logic other than being on two receipts each with 50% of the total. Uh, thanks. As we’re trying to sort out how to actually split the bill between a mix of payments and groups of couples/singles, I had one signed receipt and the manager tried to rip it out of my hand. I had to physically pull back and tell him that we weren’t finished. As we left, I walked by the manager to tell him how rude he had been to us. He barely looked up while pouring water and half-heartedly said«sorry, I’m trying to turnover the table». There was no long line at the door during our meal. There was one couple waiting at the entryway. There were other tables who had been seated before us and were still seated, eating, and chatting when we left. So, I guess if you are NOT their preferred clientele, you better wolf down your food, pay, and GTFO.

A hidden gem! We came here for a late dinner on Saturday night, and were so pleasantly surprised by this cozy/chic restaurant tucked into a small shopping center in Portola. The décor is rustic modern chic, and the vibe is warm, buzzing, and cozy. The servers and hosts were really friendly, and will give you great recommendations on the food. I ordered the homemade lumache pesto pasta which was heavenly. I could eat that every day if I could get away with it! My dining partner ordered osso bucco and enjoyed it, but I think my pasta was the winner. Looking forward to returning one day for their brunch!

Portola Kitchen is a cute modern American restaurant nestled in a Portola Valley shopping center. I was expecting something a little more old school given the Portola demographic(no offense), and was pleasantly surprised by the chic ambiance, interesting cocktails, and delicious sounding dinner menu. If you didn’t read all the Unilocal reviews I’ll save you some time. A lot of people dislike the service, and everyone loves the Kale Lumache(basically a kale pesto pasta). Most are underwhelmed by the food and think it’s overrated. The verdict? Mostly true. — Kale Lumache — delicious. I don’t think I had as big of a foodgasm as everyone else did but it was flavor packed and the pasta shells were perfectly al dente. A generous portion for the price. Everything else I tried was meh. — Seared Tuna appetizer — the tuna was hard and flavorless. — Osso Bucco — pretty dry, served on a bed of undercooked, under seasoned risotto. — Kids Mac n Cheese — also under seasoned and bland. — Wine — not bad. Syrah was good but not worth the cost. The Chardonnay was good but not as buttery as I would like. Solid 5 – 6 oz pours. Service was super friendly, albeit he seemed to forget to check on us a few times. Otherwise, a nice date night spot in Portola.

I see MANY one and two star reviews for the Portola Kitchen. I don’t know what’s going on the place but … may be we were just lucky? This is my 1st visit. We were 4 for dinner, Friday night, the place was ¾ full house, we took out side table. It was nice because the inside was very loud and noisy. I had the PK Burger, the burger was very juicy, the bun was nice, romaine, grilled onion, house pickles, cheddar, tomato aioli, come with thin fries, 14 bucks! The other entries: Italian Sausage Pizza, kale pesto, sausage, roasted peppers, 16 bucks! USDA Prime Marinated Skirt Steak, gilroy garlic mashed potatoes, fresh broccolini, 27 bucks! Spaghetti Vongole, prosecco, savoury clams, fresno chili, garlic, 19 bucks! I had a chance to have them all, I liked the pizza, the Skirt Steak was very good, and the Spaghetti was nice and al dente. The service was fast, drinks, entry and desserts, our waitress was pretty young but also very sharp, I mean she had such a good tempo to serving us. So, may be we were just lucky, but, my first experience at Portola Kitchen was GOOD!

I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning and frankly, I was disappointed with their quality of service and food. While the brunch menu is fairly extensive, the food was mediocre at best. The french toast with almonds was nothing stellar, and the eggplant sandwich was plain(I could make it so much better at home!) The restaurant had plenty of seats available but the minute I had my last bite, the waitress quickly came to pick up my dish. What is the rush? Can I at least swallow my food down before you take the dish?! The cappuccino tasted sour and awful, so I asked the waitress to make me another one. I swear either the milk was expired, or it was left out too long. The waitress gave me the hardest time and attitude, and I ended up getting a plain coffee instead. SO disappointed in everything!

Take advantage of kids pasta shells it’s the same size as the adult dish. Have a kid party I’d say. 3.5 food, our hostess was sweet, the rest of the service was mediocre. Yes the Kale shells was something different but my son and I weren’t dancing on the table or anything so maybe if we return we’ll try something fancy and see if it gets more of a reaction. Rounding down for now 3 stars

Food quality at dinner is underwhelming. The Caesar salad was literally lettuce and dressing, no croutons, etc. Burger was not worth $ 14. Their pizzas and brunch options are decent. Summary: Steer clear of this place for dinner.

Our family visited the restaurant for the first time and I agree with others on the service and food. The hostess had a really bad attitude and our waitress was no where to be found. We had to ask for a refill on our water and then again for our check. My husband had the Halibut and I had the chicken caesar salad both of which were terrible and over priced. We will NOT be returning and I would definitely NOT recommend this place!

I agree with others on the service. Few tables were occupied. Lots of staff. Had to wait 15 min for a coffee. Practically had to stand up to get someone’s attention. Finally after asking two staff someone took my order. This is not the first time this has happened here for us.

The ambiance is decent and the menu options are plentiful. The food itself is good but not great. That being said, things are too expensive for what they’re worth and service was pretty freakin’ bad. The hostess had attitude from the moment we walked in, and not to sassy cute kind that makes you want to marry her a tiny bit but the ratchet drawn-on-eyebrows minimum-wage-forever ex-boyfriend-texted-me-this-morning kind of attitude you want to distance yourself from as soon as possible. The servers were SO hard to get a hold of; yeah, it was a pretty busy morning, but we had to do everything short of tackling them(I mean it – waving hands, shouting, standing) to get their attention, which we only needed twice for some extra ketchup and the check. Like I said the food itself is fine but for the price and the trouble it’s a complete non-contender for even the bottommost spot on the«Places Riki Wants to Eat Again» list. Seriously, would never go back when there are simply too many good places to eat in the Bay Area.

Kale pesto lumache is fantastic! The mushroom pizza with truffle cream. So indulged in the chocolate budino, that I almost forgot the high calories on the late night^_^

Solid spot for a great salad and/or appetizers, but I don’t think I’d spend $ 50+ per person here. I had the beet and arugula salad, and it was perfect.

The waffle toppings are awesome! The Benedict egg toppings the same. We had both! Came then again for tortellini with mushroom sauce I think it was… anyway, it was rich and bold tasting! Delicious… all the normal Italian enentities, Yum! Cozy place in hills and close to Forrest area. Sweet!

Excellent restaurant. No gluten free options as far as pancakes and toast, but plenty of things you can order on the menu with no gluten. I had the Ladera Scramble, and I thought it was delicious. We had great service, and I am looking forward to coming back with my husband.

Fantastic salmon and braised short ribs. Chocolate moose for dessert is a winner. Atmosphere is casual. Staff is friendly. Good bar. Decent wine list.
