Zeek’s Cheese Grill

Suzan and I lunch at Hillsdale’s food carts once or twice a month. Zeek’s has yummy variations on mac cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches, decent chili and an outstanding tomato bisque. :-)

Delicious. Everything you’d want from a grilled cheese shop. And the little dipping side of tomato soup that comes with each order is amazing, like a sweet basil marinara. Note: have only tried the sandwiches but will absolutely go back and try the mac & cheese.

Really helpful on ordering, their basic mac and cheese is great and my husband is obsessed with the cubano.

What a great deal, for $ 10.50 I was able to get a good size salad, half a grilled cheese sandwich and a sm. cup of soup.
Let me start with the customer service, the guys here were friendly and outgoing. They had tons of recommendations on what to order. The Cubano sandwich was the most popular choice at this food cart. I however picked the Canard.
Before I moved out here to Portland I never ordered duck anything. This city can drastically change your tastes in food. The Canard sandwich has duck confet, brie and Caramelized onion bacon jam! Who comes up with this stuff? It was cooked perfectly. a
I had it gone in 3 seconds. The soup surprised me with it’s spicy kick. I thought it was just plain old tomato. And because we need to eat our veggies I got salad like a good girl and I do not regret it. It had two of my favorite leafy greens, romaine and arugula. Not to mention the grilled chicken, avacado, bacon, and parm. cheese.
As I was chatting away with the vendor about the new gelato cart Zeek’s is starting in Happy Valley soon I happened to notice the amazing mac — n — cheese item on the menu. I can’t wait to try that next.

I ordered the Ciao sandwich, which was ok for what it was– but the salad was disappointing. I asked to change the dressing (got balsamic vinaigrette instead of sherry vinaigrette) and leave off the dried cranberries (of the Julienne salad.) Somehow, that resulted in the kale and manchego cheese also being left from my salad. The salad still tasted ok, but I would have enjoyed it more if the kale and cheese had been present.

I like the simple grilled cheese with the the side of tomato soup. The Fondue is heavy but tasty. The other sandwiches are good as well. The carts here can be slow and definitely avoid during the highs chool lunch hour.

Well crafted and interesting menu, pleasant staff, but poorly executed, overly greasy sandwiches.

Had the Cruz, dipped it in their gorgonzola tomato basil soup. It was perfect! Now I need a nap.

I cant rate the food because i stood at the order window for 5 minutes without so much as being acknowledged by the staff. It was lunch time and they seemed moderately busy there wasn’t a line though. A simple «hi we will be right with you» would have been nice. I went over to phat cart and was greeted and served within minutes. Attention zeek’s owner, teach your employees about customer service!

Great Mac and cheese, their Cuban sandwich is pretty awesome too! I suggest a half sandwich and small Mac with some pomegranate lemonade

Picked an «Oregon» for an early dinner at work, then accidentally left it in my car. Came out of work at 2 am and found it on the front seat. Just like my favorite pizza, damn if this sandwich was the best thing I had all day! Will definitely be back for more!

I wrote a review for the one in Cartlandia that is no longer open so I thought I’d do a follow-​up on the Hillsdale one. We have now tried most of the sandwiches and about four different mac and cheese dishes. We have yet to have anything that was not so tasty that we crave it once a week (at least). This one is a bit of a nightmare, traffic-​wise, at certain times of the day since it’s right by a school, but it is still worth the trip. We just went to the new one in Bethany Village today — the menu has more items on it and as usual, it was very yummy. We come from Vancouver so it’s a bit of a drive for us, but for Zeek’s, we will do it gladly.

I ordered the supreme cubano and mac n cheese. Everything was great. The sandwiches come with a side of tomato soup that was good too. I’ll definitely be going back

There Mac and cheese is addicting. I’ve tried every type! But, I haven’t tried anything else on there menu. Great customer service. It’s located in a cute food truck area by Wilson.

The Cubano is excellent. I’ve had three of them now sine Zeek ’ s joined the carts at Hillsdale. The first one was a little spicier than I prefer (I’m a wuss that way), so I asked Zeek if he could bring it down a notch. He says, «well, let’s talk through the ingredients, and we’ll work it out.» I liked his approach. In the end, we went from 3 spiced up pickles to two, and that was perfect.
Zeek has a great personality and is an accomplished chef. He used to be a chef on cruise ships, and as it turns out, he worked for his now business partner in the food cart business. They also have one in Portland. Both are great guys!
They are my go to spot up there right now. One of these days I’ll have to try one of their other great looking sandwiches… that is, when I get burned out on the Cubano.

Very tasty grilled cheese sammies. I liked the deluxe which was three cheeses of awesome but I want to try the Cruz next time. They also have excellent salads and the guy working the cart is super nice. Good portion sizes as well. I also recommend the tomato bisque if you like that sort of thing.
