I love white eagle and always have a great time here. Its a great affordable place to crash and the food and drinks are always good. Our last stay was a little uncomfortable due to the heat, we were in room 11 first time being in this room. The window opened up into a weird little brick wall lol. It made for one hot stuffy night drenched in sweat. The room would prob be just fine for cold weather but in the heat was almost unbearable. Other than the rough sleep, everything else was great nice staff. We will def be back soon just hope not to get rm 11 again.

Been here to see the Stan McMahon Band. Place is nice and all, but watching that Big Foot looking mofo drop a little Acid Ranch was one of the neat things I’ve done. Bunch a damned hipsters and hippies, but I’ll let that slide.

Second time being at this establishment, very pleased for the live music and tasty dessert — especially, the Black and Tan brownies with vanilla bean ice cream. If you are a beer snob, this place will not disappoint. Ciders are tasty.

I’ve been a LONGTIME customer of the White Eagle. I’ve been going there since the 1990… so even BEFORE it was purchased by McMenamins. I have to say… the service now is like«rolling the dice»…sometimes you get great servers, while other times, you have to stand up and wave them down… just to order drinks or food. Tonight was one of those nights… the server that we started with had tunnel vision… and I would have been better off serving myself… which I did really… by walking up to the bar, to order drinks & food for our table. While the server that we finished with… never made another appearance after dropping off our«bill/tab» for payment. I got up & asked the manager for a «to-go-box.» I could totally understand IF this was Friday or Saturday evening… but it was Thursday… and the place wasn’t even ½ full tonight… the servers were just lax… and socializing with friends, or «in their own world.» Food was Okay… It’s funny how sometimes it can be great… and other times mediocre… depending on «WHICH McMenamins & which NIGHT» you go out to eat. I give this a C+ rating overall. Average… but nothing to write home about.

Three girlfriends and I went for dinner and drinks last night, we were staying in the hotel above. I was looking forward to it after reading the reviews and seeing the menu, sounded super promising! Sadly it was a major let down. The service was poor, we had to ask for our table to be cleaned off twice and the server forgot our order twice. We had to all but get in his way to get more drinks and he often brought something other than we had ordered. And if that wasn’t bad enough the food was lame also. I had the mushroom veggie burger and fries. Classic bar food right? One of the worst veggie burgers have ever had and the fries were icky, soggy and I never could get any katchup or sauce if any form. For what it’s worth we left and went up the block to the other bar, had amazing service in a warm setting surf great drinks.

My girlfriend was visiting from Denmark and we decided to stay in the Haunted Hotel. The staff was super friendly! We had the whole hotel to ourselves too! Her and I had been exploring Portland all day in the cold, pouring rain, so we hung our clothes by the heater and headed to the bar for some Hot Cocoa to warm up! The bartender offered to give us to go cups so we could take it to our room to warm up under the blankets. Awesome staff and service! We didn’t see any ghosts, but we had alot of fun!

The problem is that I remember the former owners who had a great blues bar, back in the 1990’s. Now it seems very impersonal and corporate, and the employees seem shackled. However, it is a scenic bar..

Walked in and was very impressed… very cool place. Always love a good, cool mcmenamins. Dark, moody, artsy, and yet a very good vibe. The menu seems pretty normal for a mcs, but service was very prompt and friendly. Was very comfortable sitting at the bar and having a drink. Would suggest, and come back!

Busy, narrow, historic, haunted(?) hotel upstairs. I tend not to prefer McMenamin’s, but I have been served with kindness and great hospitality here. This is a great location to see music, hang out before a show a Moda Center. I didn’t know they had a cool fire pit outside until we were leaving, but it was fantastic. This particular evening White Eagle came to the rescue. We had a horrible time at Mint. Mint was understaffed pre-Madonna. In 1 hour and 30 minutes we got one drink, and that was because I went to the bar myself after finding a table outside. White Eagle let us order at the bar, were friendly, and later offered us table service. WOW! What a concept.

This one was in an interesting part of town when we were finishing up our passports a few months ago. I liked the Venues layout. We had the Blue cheese tots. They were pretty delicious. The server was really nice and teased us about finding the clue. We are out of State passport holders. We will be back in October for the Tripster party in WA and will be staying at White Eagle one night. Can’t wait to check out whatever band will there that night.

An addendum to my previous review… Husband and I ordered a gin and soda, whiskey rocks, and a bottle of Rainier. I don’t know if the bartender is drunk, stoned, or what. He asked us twice if we needed menus, and then asked if he’d asked us about the menus. He then could not remember our drinks, and asked us repeatedly what they were. We were the only people at the bar. Get it together, people!

I came here with a friend when I was out of town and I really did enjoy it. It wasn’t extremely busy the night we went, but it was definitely a good time still. The live music was great and the drinks were very well made. Prices were reasonable as well. I wish i would have been able to eat, but at the time I was full. I enjoyed the dim lighting of the place and the staff were very nice. It was a great experience the night we went and I’d love to go back again and try more of their drink selections and this time eat. We met the 2nd band while we were outside about to leave and I really wish i could remember their name! Hopefully the next time I go I can see more great music and I’m sure I’ll have a great time again!

Just out doing a little ‘passporting’ and decided this would be our final stop of the day. Yay for us deciding to have dinner here. We were warmly greeted when we came in, grabbed a seat on the patio and ordered some food. When the food came we were AMAZED. This is the best meal we have eaten at any of the McMenamins, and we eat at them regularly. The humus was by far the best we have had. The sandwich was seasoned and cooked to perfection, and our drinks were mixed with love! Each and every one of the waitstaff treated us as if we were their only customers. What a great way to end page 12! Thank you and keep doing what you do.

Thank you to the awesome afternoon bartenders at the White Eagle for giving my paranormal-curious daughter a tour of the basement. Can’t *wait* to sleep with one eye open tonight! #Room10

Dropped in recently to see a band I’d been wanting to check out. Great experience, will keep an eye out for other shows to catch here. McMenamin’s beers are generally pretty solid, and the cajun tots are always worth the guilt. Not a large space, but the music sounded decent. Staff kept up with all the people needing drinks. Both bands were just kind of hanging out in the crowd before and after their sets, which was pretty cool. Overall, a rad place to catch a band.

I ordered the $ 8 Tavern Green salad and it came out with slimy bad lettuce. I notified the waiter and they made a new one for me but the cook came out to apologize and said he tried to pick out as much of the bad lettuce he could find. When paying $ 8 for a plate of mostly lettuce I would expect it to be fresh.

As is true of any McMenamins, this is unique. Not the greatest part of town from the locale; right next to the railroad tracks. But get inside and it’s great. Always great brews on tap; I had the Cone Thug IPA. I also tried the TNT Chicken Strips(just chicken strips, nothin’ fancy). And you can stay here. Apparently, this is the smallest of the McMenamins Hotels with only eleven rooms.

We have a McMenamin’s passports, so we originally went here just to get a stamp crossed off the passports. We were pleasantly surprised that they had live music! We ordered our favorite Portland Dip and enjoyed some Ruby’s during the show. We will be back for sure!

I’ve never had any food there, but they have some pretty decent concerts. It’s a nice little place and there’s a great outdoor patio for the summer.

As far as McMenamins bars go, this one is pretty darn decent. On par with most of their locations, this one is historic — an older building that’s reportedly haunted, and sports both a bar downstairs and rooms for rent upstairs. It harkens back to whatever it was in the late 1800’s(brothel, I believe). The bar downstairs is oriented towards performances, most of the musical variety. A small stage paired with a slightly larger dance floor comprise one end of this shotgun shack, with a long bar heading back toward the front and some tables astride the stairwell in the middle. There’s a nice large patio outside that runs the length of the joint, with a pretty killer fireplace. The vibe is crunchy up in here. Beer-soaked ex-hippies, for the most part. But it’s kind enough, and surprisingly the service is actually pretty fair. My drinks here are always tasty, and I never seem to have to wait too long for them. Stop in for a laid back good time. If you’ve been to McMen’s you know what to expect food-wise. My first choice is always the tater tots. You can’t really go wrong unless you eat the whole order to your head. And a major plus is the extensive whiskey selection — much deeper than most bars in the McMen’s empire. Yeah, I can dig it.

We stopped in here for lunch, and while we didn’t get to take in any live music, the atmosphere was still fantastic. We ordered fish and chips, a tuna salad sandwich, and a cup of clam chowder. The tuna sandwich was delicious, but both the fish and chips and the clam chowder left something to be desired. They weren’t bad, just not great. Regardless, we enjoyed our visit and wouldn’t hesitate to go back, if only to sit in their cool space that claims to be haunted by old Portland ghosts.

This McMenamins is set in a North Portland’s industrial but up and coming neighborhood, and just down the street from the Widmer Brewery. I came here for a light lunch of Imperial IPA and tasty soup. I didn’t check out the Hotel or get a chance to hear live music, but I’ll probably be back for one or both. The White Eagle Café and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel building kind of reminds me of the Peerless Hotel in Ashland. Both are refurbishments of a similar looking historical Hotel and with a lot of classic touches. I naturally gravitate to these kind of places, and the somewhat standard McMenamin’s model doesn’t bother me a bit.

This is my Dads favorite bar in Portland. He’s a man of simple pleasures and White Eagle Saloon measures up to his meager standards to a tee. The checklist goes as follows: 1. Moderatly prices food and drink 2. Live blue grassy music Yup, that’s it folks. That’s all it takes to win my dad over. Me, I take a little more convincing. McMenamins food/booze generally isn’t something I go out of my way for. I started going here with some regularity to meet up with people before Blazer games. It’s off the max line so you can just hop on and head to the game after kicking back a few bevs. I brought my Dad here for this such reason and it was love at first twang. I have to admit the house band was pretty entertaining. It’s my understanding that they have live music every night — some have a cover to watch out. Happy Hour is the best time to come. They have some good food and booze deals. I can’t ever seem to come without getting tator tots and I suggest you do the same. My usual would be a HH burger, tots and a well mixed drink, which comes out a little south of $ 10. The HH tots are easily shareable with 2 people. but why would you want to share? I also had the Fish & Chips and Colonel Mustard which is a mustard-rubbed chicken breast, bacon, swiss cheese, and some other goodies. I was very pleasantly surprised and was even looking forward to being dragged back here by my dad so I could have it again. The service I would say is above what you’d expect from this chain. They always seem to be somewhat attentive and friendly. It’s pretty much what you expect from a McMenamins bar + live music.
