I’ve been going to Wayne for several years now. What a wonderful guy, and a cool shop. Great and inexpensive haircut too. His shop was used in a Nikon ad in either Time or Life magazine… there’s a copy of the ad in his shop somewhere. Cool place, right out of the fifties. Love supporting this kind of business!

Ho-Lee Shnikes. I thought Wayne retired DECADES ago. I’m still pretty sure he did – I mean, he learned how to cut hair in the service for WWII, fer cryin’ out loud, he’d have to be nearly 100 by now! I thought he closed the shop years ago… Wrong-o. Somebody’s carrying the torch for him these days. The shop doesn’t look substantially different than it did in the 70s when I first starting getting buzz cuts there. I’m willing to bet it still doesn’t look much different than it did in late 40s when he set up shop there! There’s probably still some of the same magazines available while you wait, at least as old as I am… I still can’t believe it, but as I was driving by yesterday I saw it! There it is, Wayne’s! Sign said«Open»! Solid little icon, in all it’s non-ironic, non-trendy boy, definitely non-kitschy glory, nestled in among all the bustling little boutiques and hipster eateries. I’m still pinching myself. Ever wanted to step into a bonafide time machine? This is as close as you’ll probably get in the heart of St. John’s.
