Really disappointing… we went where the signs at the Marriott directed us, to the 2nd floor. When we got there a hotel employee was standing beneath a sign that said«Truss» talking to someone, presumably a hotel guest. He asked what we were looking for, my husband said, «The restaurant Truss» and the hotel employee said, «Oh, that’s downstairs. Not here. No, you’re in the wrong place» with no acknowledgement that it would be a reasonable conclusion, with all the signs advising otherwise. Anyway, we went downstairs where there is absolutely nothing that says Truss but people are eating and there is waitstaff. It was pretty crowded, but we managed to find seating and we sat there for a few minutes before realizing no one was coming for a while. So we left, and I just got a bad vibe off the place.

Do not be put off by the fact that this is a hotel bar/restaurant! This is a great little bar with a fine beer selection and terrific food. I stopped in for a little something to eat and had a delicious butternut squash soup that had just enough bite to add interest to its rich flavor. The bread was amazing — potato rosemary — and well above that served in most restaurants! The service was among the best I have had and I was there on Thanksgiving Day. Well worth stopping in here!

I didn’t know what kind of breakfast buffet to expect when I came to Truss, but I was incredibly impressed with their food. It seemed like it would be a fairly nice place upon arrival, and I was not wrong. When we were introduced to the breakfast buffet, they had a wide selection of items to choose from. They did have a menu where you could order dishes from the kitchen, but we received 2 free breakfast buffets with our stay. At first it was overwhelming, especially since breakfast food is my favorite food and they had anything you could want! They had potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, an omelette station, a waffle station, fruits, bread, cereal, and a few other things. Everything I ate was so delicious and If I didn’t already bring three plates with me the first time through, I would have went back for seconds! Some cool things I liked about this buffet was that they offered egg white omelettes at their omelette station and they had hazelnut butter, something I haven’t seen at all and I must say, it was quite delicious. Our server was so helpful to us and got all of our orders correct, as well as cleaned up our plates quickly. I love breakfast, and I love breakfast here. If you’re staying at the Marriott, this is definitely the place to eat at for breakfast. When eating breakfast, come hungry, because they have more than enough to satisfy anyone’s hunger!

As a first time in Portland, we had a breakfast here. Sam(server) and Eric(manager) are very welcoming and nice. Breakfast options are plenty. I made my choice with«All American». My bf’s choice was«Huevos Rancheros». It was a great breakfast!

Fish and chips is the best! Thought it was too expensive, but great price for the amount of food you get. Wish I took a picture :(.

So here’s the skinny on truss: it’s really a tale of two trusses. The restaurant truss is on the second floor, and we only ate breakfast there, so I can only speak to that. I opted for the buffet, for increased options, although I’m not much of a buffet person. It was all right. Buffet bacon always sucks, so you kinda know what you’re getting into. I enjoyed mostly some fruit and breads, but all in all it was adequate for hangover removal. Truss Lounge is the bar area of the 1st floor of the hotel, and is generally superior to its eponymous upstairs neighbor. Cool décor in the booths, a big screen or two, a revolving backbar and some couches make it the chicest super homey sportsbar/foyer in Portland. The food is damn good, and the service generally adequate… We had a small incident with a forgotten water, but we had just come from Seattle, so we were spoiled in that dept. I dig having a beer in the lobby, just before heading out for the day, so we made it our protocol, to stop in daily.

I’ve been eating at the bar of the Bistro for the last week. Excellent service and the staff were super friendly. The bartenders, Terry, Jordan, and Marshall are great.

I was very happy with my experience at Truss. Reading previous reviews, I understand that it has changed in the last few months, but my intention was to get an upscale breakfast nearby my hotel downtown and that’s exactly what I got. Our server was great, the ambiance was appropriate, modern and pleasant, and the food was tasty. I had the eggs benny and my wife had the croissant egg sandwich. The benny had a thinner but very tasty hollandaise that I’m craving again already, and my wife’s croissant breakfast sandwich was a bit heavy and greasy for me but tasted of quality ingredients. Both came with a shredded potato hash brown side that we both enjoyed. The coffee was a stainless carafe of Starbucks brought to the table and while I’m a bit of a coffee snob for the small batch local roasts, it was definitely a welcome step up from the standard greasy spoon offerings. Our server was nice, attentive, and professional, and our order arrived quickly. The price of everything on the menu was probably a few dollars more than I would have liked. Regardless I would return, and in fact I’ll likely go back to try the buffet tomorrow before we leave town.

Do you love hotels? Does the idea of sitting in a hotel lobby surrounded by tv’s and hotel guests get you really excited? This place is going to rock. your. world. It’s a hotel restaurant. It’s the Marriott’s hotel restaurant. It’s super mediocre. This place knows it’s beer like America knows it’s beer. Under Micro Brews the first two on the menu are Coors and Budweiser. My favorite two micros. Move over Ninkasi, the Marriott is here to take over the beer game. The menu is filled with fine dining favorites like quesadillas, buffalo wings, and pretzels. When our appetizers came, the«server» put our«charcuterie» plate on my utensils, trying to push it from the edge of the table to the middle unsuccessfully as the plate refused to slide over the fork. Giving up, she moved on to the French fries(which you could tell were fancy because they were served in a mini frying basket), knocking a water glass over in the process. I don’t think she was drunk, but if she had been she might have done a better job as she may have attempted to conceal inebriation. It’s a hotel restaurant. The food is fine, the ambiance blows and the staff can hardly wait for you to leave. Don’t be fooled by the other reviews.

I’ll comment on the second floor location breakfast so that I don’t duplicate my review of the bar downstairs(called«The Lobby Bar At The Marriott» on Unilocal). Quickly, I go for the buffet and get bacon and sausage while the buffet cook makes two eggs over-medium. Then grab some cottage cheese, provolone and salami. I’ll tend to skip carbs in the morning, but you can get croissants or pancakes or waffles. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. Note that it can get busy on Sunday, but the wait is not very long at all.

This review is based on two experiences there, in the same day. Went here for lunch while at a conference. I was staying at the hotel it’s connected to. I understand it was busy due to the conference, but it could have been better. My friend and I were immediately seated, so that was good. The waiter was nice, but there were issues: One, it seemed to take forever for him to get a refill of water. Our waiter seemed to disappear for several minutes. Same thing with the check, we had to flag him down after another disappearance, in order to find out where our check was. My friend had the fish tacos and he liked them well enough. I had the fish and chips and it was decent. Hotel bars are pricey, so I don’t know if I would have normally paid that much for the fish and chips, but… It lost the points for the long waits. So, for the lunch experience, it was a 2. Later that day, I did try the flourless chocolate cake and it was good. And my friend had dinner and wine. And the female wait staff this time around was more attentive and handled things quickly even with the crowds. So, that experience was a 3 or so. Not the worst hotel restaurant, but not the best, for sure. If you are staying here, you’ll be okay, but there are other places in walkable distance that you can try.

the lounge is located right as you walk into the marriott waterfront hotel on the first floor. very moody with candles lit and dim lighting. there are coffee tables, seating at the bar, and booths. all very chic and new. the waitress was very inviting, even though we had a toddler. the crowd was more for adults i must say… the charcuterie was so good. there were three different slices of saucisson sec. the original with the cracked peppers was perfect, the lavender infused one was so surprising and delicious, and the cumin one was great. the spice didn’t over power the cured meat. and all of them were made there! prosciutto was so yummy too. the side things like the mustard, pickled grapes, carrots, and radishes were okay. wish they just had cornichons. the jar of warm and melted goat cheese with fresh basil and peeled ripe tomatoes was really the best thing i had, ever. kept scooping them out onto my bread, and i kept wanting more. ended up getting two jars because i loved it so much. please please try this one! parking is valet at the hotel. it’s a big plus if you’re staying there though! must give this place a try.

So, I wasn’t sure which restaurant to review, because on Unilocal, there is Truss, and Truss Lounge & Bistro. The restaurant that I am writing for is Bistro by Truss. It’s located on the ground floor of the Marriott, near the lobby and gift shop. So it’s March, and Portland Dining Month has moved to the month of March. Over 100 restaurants are participating in it this year. I did a filter to find out which restaurants have vegan offerings. Only 7 restaurants out of over 100! When I looked at the 3 course menu on the Portland Dining site for Bistro by Truss, it didn’t show the vegan offering, so I called the restaurant. I spoke to someone named Eric, and he was very accommodating. He informed me that the chef was very creative, and he would be able to whip up something vegan for me and my party. He gave me his number that I could reach him at, and when I knew we were coming in, I could let him know, and we could work out the details. Well, my group of 6 dwindled to just me and my friend. So I just called the hotel to make my reservation. The restaurant was closed, so it was someone at the front desk that took the reservation. I informed her we would be doing the 3 course dinner, and one of us was a vegan. When I got to the hotel, I was confused as to which restaurant was the one that I made the reservation at. The one upstairs was closed and someone steered me downstairs. I approached the hostess, and she said that she didn’t have a reservation for me. But she said I could grab a table, and I got a nice, cozy booth. I got to the restaurant before my friend, so I mentioned to the waiter that I was vegan, and asked what I could order. Well, as we went over the menu, the salad could be made vegan by omitting the shaved parmesan. Then he said I could have the risotto with braised greens and mushrooms. Dessert would be a problem, it was flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. I said I would just do the flourless chocolate cake without the ice cream. Well, my salad arrived with the parmesan, but the pieces were big enough that I could pick it off, but in my previous life, I loved cheese, and I ate it, as is. The risotto was delicious! My friend got the Dungeness crab version of the risotto, and she really liked hers as well. Dessert came out, and the flourless chocolate cake was so decadent, but really delicious. They brought it out with a sorbet, which was also delicious. If I had known that I could have sorbet, I would have just had the sorbet. So, I didn’t get the exact vegan meal I was hoping for. But other than that, service was good, the restaurant had nice ambiance with comfortable seating, the food delicious. Though I could do without the TV with the sports channels. My 5 star review is for the effort the restaurant put into being inclusive with all types of diners and the flexibility and creativeness of the chef. Bravo!

Sorry but I was NOT impressed with the food or drinks here. I ordered a cocktail(I don’t remember which one to be honest) but it was undrinkable and the meat and cheese plate was too busy being clever to actually be good. Meat was served in giant ‘sticks’ instead of thinly sliced like normal meat needs to be. Cheese was okay but a huge challenge to eat from the odd ‘tray’ it was served in. We were there at Happy Hour but I wasn’t happy so that was my last visit to the lounge.

My boyfriend and I were given passes to eat breakfast at Truss during our stay at the Marriott in early August. It’s a very pretty restaurant and was quite quiet on a Sunday morning. Our hostess was very friendly, but our server was just okay. He did the bare minimum to keep us happy. I wish that he had refilled our drinks more often. Our plates were always promptly removed by the busing staff. The buffet takes up a small side room and has all of the basics that you could want, plus an custom omelet station. The omelet chef also made fresh waffles. The food was high quality and fresh. In particular, I really enjoyed the cinnamon roll muffins. Delicious. I enjoyed my breakfast and think that this would likely be a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner. It has an upscale vibe.

Truss does American(borderline) haute cuisine with a trendy edge. I had the dry aged ribeye which came with asparagus and fries cooked in duck fat. The steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly(medium). The duck fat fries were heavenly; rich in flavor with a crispy outside and creamy inside. Here is the kicker, though: I hate asparagus. In general, it’s just too pungent for me. Truss, though, has made me a fan because they made me really enjoy their asparagus. I liked it so much I asked how they prepared it so I could try my hand at it at home! Service was top notch and my waiter went above and beyond by bringing my desert up to my room(I was staying at the Marriott where Truss is located). And the desert was over the top(an ice cream sundae with cookie dough and bacon garnish). I definitely recommend Truss for anyone who enjoys American cuisine with a kick.

We decided to give this place a go post ballet. I really liked the look and feel of the restaurant and the staff seemed pretty attentive. Our glasses of wines were great pours and we ordered the crab dip appetizer for a late night snack though honestly I was not a fan of it being served with tortilla chips. Perhaps some bread or something would have been better. The dip was outstanding but the chips tasted stale.

The restaurant is located inside the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. They call it Truss. Inspired by the Hawthorne Bridge. It is kind of cool. They have these sliding partitions that looked like large louvered doors that can section off into a private dining experience for parties. They carried the stone tile work to some of the walls of the restaurant and on the wall behind the hostess are multi-colored rain drops adhered to the stone wall. Nice touch. They have a few inset pieces with a big X that are representative of the Truss theme again. They have a new Chef. There is a more limited lunch menu in comparison to the enormous multi-dish variety type that we are used to. This is not a bad thing. I started with the Walla Walla Onion soup. It is served beautifully in this white covered bowl placed on a rectangular platter with your soup spoon and a crusty artisan bread. Upon opening it you smell the wonderful subtle aroma of french onion soup. It has a french bread sliced in half and covered in melted mozzarella cheese swimming in your bowl of savory dark walla walla onions and soup stock. Ooooh, french onion soup until you take your first taste. Wow, what a surprise it had a sweet flavor. Not sweet with sugar but the natural sweetness of the onions. Very delightful, not onion overpowering either. I tried the Wild Mushroom Ravioli. It was sauteed in butter with Hazel nuts I believe and what looks like 3 kinds of mushrooms. Very delicious. The texture is a little more chewy then the normal type of boiled ravioli. Different but tasty. This is a very subtle flavored dish but it does have flavor just nothing overwhelming. At our table we were trying things on each others plates. Ok, the Palenta fries looks kind of like fried cheese steak fries but more like a true rectangle. It has a subtle taste, soft with a very slight grit texture kind of like grits. It was delicious. On my daughters plate were shoe string french fries fried in duck fat. OMG, the absolute best fries I have ever had and I don’t like french fries. I tried a bite of the Bacon turkey club sandwich not on the typical bread but rather a butter grilled ciabatta bread I believe that resembled a Panini with of course the turkey, bacon and what looked like grilled pepper. OK, how different can it be… wait until you try it. Delicious! The prices of the lunch is more along of dinner prices then lunch but, the meals are worth every penny.

Truss is a new restaurant located on the second floor in the Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I went for lunch today, but no doubt, I will be back for more. Possibly dinner with a friend. The food is Trendy American. I don’t think that’s a term but it is now for the sake of this review. The décor is beautiful. Very elegant and visually striking. It’s a hotel restaurant but damn. It’s pretty nice. There were wine bottles incorporated into the décor as well as bridges. Bridges, truss, they go together. I never knew what a truss was until today. About the food, well, there is definitely a lot of thought that has gone into the menu, food preparation, and presentation. I hear they have a new chef and he sure is impressive. If he’s a fan of bacon and duck fat… I’m a fan of him. *Shoe string fries fried in duck fat? Yes! No more soggy fries. These are extra crispy, just the way I like them. *Palenta fries are definitely worth trying. They were so tasty I swear they were cheesy but I can’t confirm that. *The mushroom ravioli was amazing. So much flavor. It was a dry ravioli. Who doesn’t love a ravioli fried in butter and garlic. There was a nice crunch. * Prosciutto and pear sandwich was great. A little bit of frisee, a little bit of blue cheese, pear, and prosciutto on toasted ciabatta. The ciabatta even tasted like one of those cheese bagels. I think there may be a little baked cheese on the bottom of the roll. It was great. *Roasted Turkey sandwich on ciabatta… oh so good. * Walla Walla onion soup was great as well. The soup had that nice sweetness of the Walla Walla onions. Great french dip. Great service. Great food. I’ll be back.
