This place really needs to step it up. It should not call itself a «café,» when in actuality it is a catering company that MIGHT have something extra on-hand to share with its“open to the public” customers. Nothing is «made-to-order,» you cannot place an order over the phone, and the only thing available to purchase is what has been pre-made in their cooler. I’m all about eating raw and the food that they do have(when you can get it) is actually very good. However, do not market yourself as a café and make all these claims that you cannot live up to. My suggestion is for Yummy Tummy to close its doors to the public until it is ready to provide the type of service it currently fails to offer to its patrons.

There’s something about this place that isn’t fair. The peanut butter cups. They’re… Really, they work on your subconscious. They cost a whopping $ 1.42 an ounce, but… Sprouted, salt bathed, JUNGLE peanuts drowned in organic homemade chocolate… My poor little brain, it cannot resist. I’m not big on raw food, generally. It seems fadd’ish and a little silly to me. I mean, a falafel plate that isn’t fried? What’s the point? But them peanut butter cups, they were Silly Good. I’m absolutely not the target market for this place and it still gets four(edit: 5) stars from me. Just for the cups. Okay, I’m kinda the target market, being a yoga guy that’s health conscious and all, but not COMPLETELY the target market. Anyways. The stuff here is pricier than my normal feed, but it’s LO and certainly high quality ingredients assembled by people who care. So, yeah, 5 stars. Just know what you’re getting.

It’s live/raw vegan food that tastes good and keeps your body pure. Also, everyone here is very friendly. The first time I came here it was twenty minutes past closing… I misremembered their hours. They were very nice, offering me premade food and paper menus to take with me so I could order something next time. I’ve returned twice. I had nachos the first time and a pizzette the second time. They were both very good. The prices and quality seems about on par with Blossoming Lotus’s raw options but a completely different variety. The café is very small, with only two tables inside, but you can order your food to go or sit outside where there’s a large seating area around a fire pit. They have a shelf of health books for purchase. There are health supplements around the café also for purchase. And they’re connected with yoga(bikram and yin) in the next room over. There are sometimes workshops on how to make live/raw food. Those are listed at the Cell Rejuvenation Center’s website.

Hmmm… no, not everything here is vegan… despite what others and their printed labels on the food say. No matter how YTO(Yummy Tummy Oasis is the full name) tries to rewrite the rules, honey is still not vegan and YTO uses honey quite a lot(I’m personally fine with that if it’s responsibly-sourced and local raw honey — and properly designated — but I respect those who choose to eat vegan and despise being food-duped myself — I’m talking to you New Seasons Deli…). The above, and a couple other things I’ve seen them do(such as not revealing ingredients at all for awhile and writing their own rave reviews, along with the all-vegan claims elsewhere on the web) seems dishonest so I have a hard time with this business. That said, despite the high fat and high sugar(agave) content of the food, it is well done and tasty with most ingredients being high quality. But there is an ever-revolving door for the chefs which makes one wonder just how difficult it is to work there. The rotating cast makes the food somewhat inconsistent too. Also, be prepared. It’s not really a restaurant despite the restaurant prices. It’s a food outlet more than anything with a small cold case in the yoga studio part of the complex. So food does not come on a plate as in the pic above but rather in lots of plastic(though there is a deposit system for the bottles). There’s been attempts to put some seating in but so far it’s all been quite awkward. Plan to take your food with you. Given that, there’s other places to get quality raw food to go in PDX such as via The New Leaf(at Peep’s and the OHSU It’s All Good store — 9th floor of the South hospital — as well as directly) or Papa G’s; both of which source local and organic but YTO does have good variety.
