We had the wet steak burrito and chicken tacos. Both were phenomenal. They have recently made an indoor patio seating area, perfect for the rainy months! We will be back for sure.

Great food, great people who own and run this place, and a great value. Mexican/BBQ is an ingenious combo! Will be back!

Great little spot next over-shadowed by the big guy, Por Que No?, but seems to be growing up in a big way. The wet burrito is on point and bbq wings are some of the best wings in pdx. Tacos are on par, and can be spicy, with a bit of a heavier tortilla but are so good and cheap. Highly recommend. —BNips

Absolutely delicious. Had the chicken wet burrito. Best Mexican food I have eaten so far. Came here after eating twice at Por que no, which is located a few doors down and has a line out the door. Today I slipped into the much quieter spicy spoon and wondered to myself. Who would wait in line for food at por que no when you could come here, have better food and no line! The décor is very simple and a little music would be nice. The service was pleasant, the people courteous and friendly and the food was AMAZING!!!

Tried all the tacos between the four of us. Everyone thought theirs were delicious. Would especially recommend getting the fish taco – fresh off the grill really makes a difference.

Delish! Came here during a trip to visit a friend. Ordered 1 carnitas and 1 chicken taco. Both were very flavorful! The sauces were nice and spicy too! My friend had a vegetarian burrito which had lots of fresh vegis and flavor as well! The owner was super friendly and chatted us up after eating. Cool wood carved accents on the walls! Eat here!

We came up to Portland on a road trip, and their wet burrito was on par with the best San Diego burritos we’ve had. I can’t recommend it enough!

I having been looking for authentic Mexican food and finally found it at the spicy spoon. The ingredients in every item I have enjoyed have been fresh and made with care. The chicken has an amazing flavor to it. Good in both tacos and burritos. I love the gentle spice that grows while eating the wet burrito. It is not a burning spice, but a flavorful spice. I enjoyed the pulled pork tacos. They are not authentic Mexican, more BBQ, but delicious none the less! I absolutely enjoy every item on the menu. You can’t go wrong with the spicy spoon!

Legit, tasty tacos, but it was my boyfriends burrito that made this a 5 star review. The«wet» burrito stuffed with chicken beans and rice and smothered in green chili sauce was hands down one of the best burritos I’ve ever had. Great price too for only $ 9. Cutesy little stand that’s cozy in the winter. Love!

The chicken wet burrito is one of the best burritos I’ve ever had. I tasted the steak and pulled pork tacos as well and loved them too. The chipotle sauce is pretty awesome. Service is friendly and the owner is genuinely invested in customer satisfaction. There was a line down the block at the place down the street but only a couple people inside Spicy Spoon. I figured this place would be packed from the glowing reviews but I was happy it was pretty low key. I’ll definitely come again.

Came here for the first time with a friend’s recommendation. The menu selection wasn’t as broad but don’t let that fool you. I ordered a wet steak burrito and it was the best burrito I’ve ever had! No joke. Not to mention their fish tacos – it’s a must. Their fish was so fresh that I can taste the freshness. I grew up eating fish, so I can tell the quality. The owner of this place is so sweet and made sure everything was okay. He provided an excellent customer service with a great personality.

Tucked between the much more well known Por Que No and Mississippi Pizza Pub is a little food stand called The Spicy Spoon. Family owned and extremely passionate about their food, the spicy spoon made deliciously flavored tacos and bowls. Unassuming and cheaper than it’s neighbor, I would recommend coming here to avoid the lines. Unfortunately, with usually just 1 guy in the kitchen, you may still have to wait a bit for your meal. You can’t go wrong with the pulled pork, really hits the spot!

Only things keeping me from giving them 5 stars are the cost and speed of service. Both times I’ve come here, it’s taken at least 20 mins for pulled pork flautas. And this last time, my husband and I came in for lunch and ordered a pulled pork sandwich and the flautas with rice and beans. Took 30 mins for the latter, which I ended up having to get to go since we were there so long… I had to get back to work. By the time my flautas arrived, hubby was already done with his sandwich. Some of the pork in the flautas was a bit dry/overcooked too. Plus, for the food plus 1 bottle of water and 1 can of soda and 20% tip, it came to $ 21. Quality of food and taste are great, but it shouldn’t take so long… even if made to order. Not sure that I’ll be coming back.

Best tacos hands down. Quality, fresh, and good portions. Get the Pulled pork tacos. …have to make it longer or they turn this into a «tip». Owner is very gracious. Wings are delicious. Don’t know what else to say other than get your *** here!

I came to Portland on business from NYC and have been experiencing amazing food from the, get-go. This was taken to a new level upon my visit to the Spicy Spoon. Leon really knows how customers are supposed to be treated and is a, breath of fresh air. The food… deliciousness and flavor packed are words that come to mind. The barbecue pulled pork tacos and wings were to die for. What a mix, of flavors! This, is one tremendous find on Mississippi that I will be sure to visit again when I am in town. I wish there was love and flavor back in nyc like in his kitchen

A Hidden Gem and was totally blown away by what this place is cooking. This awesome Mexican Eatery, without a doubt, has some of the most flavorful food in Portland. No other Mexican restaurant in Portland has received a 5 star review from me until now. This gem is right between por que no and Mississippi pizza, I promise you will tell all your friends after eating here, yes it’s that good. If you’d had Mexican food in Los Angeles, this place will remind you of that experience. Let me call my first witness; Pulled Pork Taco, how do you plead ~ Smoky and full of flavor in a house made sauce.(Get This) Carne Asada Burrito(Wet), what say you~ Seasoned perfectly, full flavored with black beans and rice with minced garlic and onion w/cilantro all wrapped in a warm tortilla covered with a Verde Sauce on top and huge slices of fresh avocado and Mexican sour cream.(Get This) House made Red Sauce ~ this red sauce is awesome it taste like one of my favorite Los Angeles places(King Taco)(Get This) Best in PDX. Has the jury reach the verdict… GUILTY Of being great Authentic Mexican food and the best Carne Asada Burrito in Portland. Prices are totally reasonable and Burrito is mammoth. I can’t recommend this place strongly enough. The word is getting out that this place is the real deal Unilocalers… Bookmark it! Mic Drop with Feed back.

Spicy Spoon was AOK! Super friendly server/owner. Food was great and reasonably priced. I had a steak taco and chicken taco. We(probably like everyone) went here to avoid the PQN taco line. It wasn’t that fast but it was pretty cheap and tasted good. The salsa here was yummy but try before you dump a bunch.

Why should you come here over Por Que No? Well, the wait is probably the main reason, especially if you’re hungry. The portions here are also very generous. Like, Chipotle sized, but without having to lie to the line cook about what you want in your burrito. The quality? Pretty outstanding. The mix of ingredients is well balanced without being overbearing. What drives it home is their in-house chipotle red salsa. So smoky and spicy, it really elevates anything it touches. I would buy this in stores if they sold it. The only thing holding me back is the posted hours: I’ve arrived twice and they’ve ended up closed despite the posted hours, and my friends ran into a similar problem. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place for a nice, filling meal.
