I was so excited that there was a ramen place by my hotel. I went for dinner(around 7pm) and the place was nearly empty. The staff was friendly and made the suggestion to have the Kyushu(#6) and it did not disappoint. It was warm, flavorful and was served to me in under 5 minutes. I had the thin noodles and they were a little hard to break up but it was so tasty that I didn’t mind. I highly recommend this place.

This place is okay. My ramen was good. The waitress was a totally sweet person. Little bummed the tea selection was Stash. Yeah, office supply store bulk tea. But the ramen was well prepared and fresh. Huge bowl. Good price.

I love this place. When I crave ramen, it never disappoints. I usually order a small, but today opted for the Chef Special with thick wavy noodles — delish! Highly recommend!

Fast facts: Your bowl can be totally customized with whatever meat/non-meat and noodle you want, or pick from ~10 pre-packaged options(Kobe style, Hokkaido style, etc). Was a popular place for being in the downtown dead zone on a weekday nite. Price not bad for the amount of food you get. 2.5 stars. My husband saw a little sign that advised you that FYI the ramen toppings were NOT cooked up in the broth. I didn’t read that warning, so it was quite off-putting to munch on cold shitake mushrooms as my very first bite. After I mixed them(and my not-hot bamboo shoots) into the broth it made everything lukewarm and pretty unappetizing. Also, my miso broth was unrecognizable as such.

Every time I crave for some ramen I always go to this place! Their ramen tastes soooo good. I usually get a small bowl because that’s really more than enough. I especially love the pork soup. I like to order it HOT and it makes the broth perfect. As for choice of protein beef and pork are very good. The staff is very friendly. Fast service!

The most nasty hard noodles I ever tasted. I came from TX .they have the most unbelievable, real pork bullion, soft and same time firm noodles, egg in side the dish all ready cook some how, it looks juicy, and taste juicy. Any way it was great experiment in TX. Here at same time everything was, just like from store bought package, brand Ramen Noodles with some dry meat, and noodles was strong, not elastic at all., and some vegetables and some small amount of seeweed and some Ginger .Any way at first I was exited to go this restaurant close by, close to my home, because I still remember the most delicious bowl of soup they serve me in TX ., and when I try here. Let say I HATE everything about it .the mostt disgusting food I EVER tested.

Great little joint. I lived in Japan for a year and half and had the opportunity to learn quite a bit about ramen. This place isn’t totally authentic, but it is darned good – the best I’ve found in Portland. The gyoza is good too. I recommend this place.

Love the ramen here. The broth is true, genuine and delicious. There’s always a line at the counter. Could use an additional help during peak lunch hour tho…

Visiting from Atlanta, we have many real Japanese restaurants who serve authentic Ramen in Atlanta. This place has good flavor but still okay, and their toppings are not really authentic. Tomato soup ramen… you don’t see it at regular ramen restaurant in Japan. Their ramen is not hot, I guess that’s because American people can’t slurp. Gyoza was cold too. They charge too much as their quality.

to quote my son«Cheese should not be in ramen» I had the Chef’s special, with Tonkotsu broth. It was very good.

Being from So Cal, this place has great ramen. A little pricey for the typical ramen but great location close to the PSU campus and walkable. I had a small and that alone was filling. Miso with chicken and mild. Tasted fantastic! Made it a meal with a drink and gyzo. The gyzo(pork) didn’t have much flavor. A little disappointed. If you get a drink — FREE refill! :)

I was ready to give a 4 or 5 star review. The presentation was nice, counter service was quick. The miso soup flavor for the chef’swas not quite up to par with good ramen that I have had in the US in other cities such as New York or in Japan(Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka). The meat, however, was quite delicious. In the middle of my meal, I was asked to move to another accommodate 6 person party. I was solo sitting at a four person table, so I guess I am greedy? There were many other tables that could have been put together to better accommodate the 6 person party that crowded at my 4 person table. Though I understand the sentiment, this seemed very unprofessional. Perhaps the restaurant should adopt a formal seating policy… this would be a more acceptable way to manage customer seating.

I stopped in during my lunch break and figured the long line was a good sign. I got a ton of ramen in a bowl sized bigger than my head. It contained lots of nice fresh vegetables and filled me up, but I wasn’t blown away. I got a vegetarian bowl and perhaps should have ordered something more meaty, for a bit more flavor? The point is, I’d be willing to go again and test that theory. If you cannot deny yourself a ramen fix, this is a great place downtown to go.

Delicious ramen and friendly staff. Food came out in a timely manner, was presented well, and we were very happy. Lots of ways to customize your meal. If I’m ever back in this area, I’ll definitely come back. Thanks!

Definitely a good value. Flavors? Just alright. The staff is very friendly, but the food just isn’t top notch ramen like you would get from shin sen gumi or similar in Southern California. The broth didn’t have much flavor, and corn was a very strange addition to the soup. The pork broth was sadly what I would consider a slight step above top ramen at home. It had all of the nice shimmering oil at the surface, but tasted like a broth that has been taken off the heat too early. The combos are good value, and all things considered, it’s a fine meal if you aren’t expecting much in the flavor department. When I ask for tonkotsu ramen, I’m expecting lovely light broth with dense porky flavor. This was not it. The gyoza was also just okay, though that is due to my personal preference of having them pan fried and not steamed.

This place is so, so good. I probably eat here 2x a week. My personal fav is the #2 ramen bowl spicy with beef. They know how to kick up the hot factor, if you’re into that sort of thing. Also, their gouyza(spelling?) is fantastic! Service is good, price is fair, atmosphere is what a lunch kitchen should be. I recommend this place all the time and will continue eating here for a long time.

Let me clarify that this negative review is primarily about the service and not the taste of the food. I asked for gluten free at the counter and she seemed really understand and great about showing me what to get. She told me to order rice with whatever I wanted and helped me with the options. Then when it finally came out and it was something totally different than what I had ordered. I asked them if they could fix it but they said it was going to take an extra 20 minutes, I expressed that I didn’t have this time and they were privy to this when I ordered and they did nothing to rectify this. I was just pretty annoyed by the whole situation. What I did get what less than appetizing. Everything that my family ordered was pretty delicious. So I guess a bad egg? The pear sake was good though.

Fast, cheap, convenient, and tasty. What’s there not to love? Oh yeah — the calories and junk food aspects of ramen. But are the alternatives — American fast food — better?

If you want to go for«authentic» ramen, this may not be the place. However, if you are craving for a bowl of noodle soup when you are in downtown or PSU, this is the perfect place to go. I have been here twice, and I had both the miso and shouyu soup. I think the miso one is better. The noodles are pretty chewy, both soups were flavourful, and the meats were tender.

So far my husband and I think this is our favourite ramen shop in Portland. Their vegan light miso broth is very good, but my husband thinks they don’t put enough in the bowl. Their noodles are by far the best we’ve come across in quite a while and absorb the broth to make them that much more tasty. I recommend the medium noodles, but I haven’t tried the thick or thin ones. The vegetable gyoza are very good and light, perfect for a compliment to the ramen. They also have a frequent buyers card. If you have 5 stamps you get a free gyoza and soda pop. With 10 stamps you get a free bowl of ramen. Now that I’ve written this review I want some ramen. Darn…
