A little pricey for what it is but it wasn’t bad at all. Had a croque monsieur which was more like a pressed ham and cheese sandwich but it wasn’t bad at all.

I can’t fault this place on the wait or the small size of the place because the food is so good. If you don’t get there early or wait until after the crowds, you could be waiting 45 min-an hour. But for those biscuits and chicken sausage, it’s worth it. The pork shoulder hash is delicious, the service is great, the atmosphere is comfortable, and they have a tasty selection of tea lattes. One of my favorite tiny brunch spots in Portland.

Been a while since I had brunch here. But I remember having a good one here. I had chai. Thumbs up! We had tried the hazel plate, the tacos and byob! They are not your usual breakfast kinda place… But different flavors certainly worth visiting!

I don’t rate service, ambiance, cleanliness and wait times; they are too variable. I can put up with anything if the food is good. It is all about the food– that’s it. All of my ratings are based on vegan options only. Notes: So frickin disappointed. Great food presentation, mouth-watering menu descriptions, high prices to ensure your getting something good, but ekk! Good marketing I guess, terrible food. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a vegan breakfast this flavorless. Sourdough toast was stale. Tofu scramble consisted of way too small bits of tofu that were obviously seasoned by turmeric but not much else. The potatoes/lentil hash wasn’t warm, and didn’t even taste like potatoes or anything really? I had to dump a lot of salt and hot sauce on top to finish it. They did have an interesting sugar coated fruit piece, but altogether definitely a waste of $ 18.

Five stars for the french toast. Holy wow, that was maybe the best french toast ever made. And it was gluten free. It was a quiet morning, and there was a grandfather and grandson having brunch together, and they both ordered the french toast. They know what is up. My buddy’s breakfast tacos were good, but not as good as the french toast. Also, the space is super adorable and you can wander the equally adorable shop next door when you’re done.

I actually wasn’t super impressed with my meal. Overall, I think it was overpriced for what it is. Also, the service was very slow for a one-person meal. I ordered the BYOB biscuit sandwich with a fried egg, bacon, gruyère cheese and apple butter spread. They do give you ample bacon, which I appreciate. However, I couldn’t even taste the cheese — there needed to be more of that. THe homemade biscuit was pretty good — not amazing but good. There was nothing special about the homefries/potatoes. I didn’t even eat many of them because they weren’t that good. I also ordered the caramelized grapefruit because it sounded so unique. It was pretty good for something new and different that not many other brunch places offer in Portland.

Dined at the Hazel Room on November 24, 2015 around noon. Long wait for table and ate at the bar in the back. Had the Tall Boy with an Oly Tall Boy. I wasn’t hung over, but if I was, this would have been the perfect brunch. Had drip coffee, which was OK. Tall Boy is a biscuit with sausages, bacon, egg, and a wonderfully delicious gravy. This is an exceptional recovery meal from late night frolicking. It came with country fried potatoes, which were just OK. I’ll be back on next trip to PDX.

Good quality food. You may have to wait if you don’t arrive early. This little gem doesn’t accommodate a lot of people at one time. It’s a very small little old house split into 2 spaces. They share with a little boutique and they share one bathroom also. The bathroom is the only thing about The Hazel Room that I kind of dislike. The staff of The Hazel Room are sweet and really seem to like where they work which makes for great service. I like the mimosas and the Bloody Marys here but wish they were larger. Prices seem about average and we end up spending around $ 40 + tip for two of us to have breakfast and a cocktail. We’ll continue to visit for breakfast as long as they remain in business.

Yummy brunch dishes. I have been to the Hazel Room 2x and both time were excellent. Love how fluffy their eggs are in there dishes. I like ordering the green tea latte. The aren’t cheap about the amount of matcha they put in it, defiantly worth it and the coffee art they do on top is amazing.

This review is solely for the drinks. The Hazel Room is a small café located north of the Willamette. It was originally a house and shares space with a small clothing boutique. My friend and I dropped in for their alcoholic coffee creations. I ordered the Mexican and she had the Moroccan. nThe Moroccan was very strong. It definitely took a few sips of getting used to. I fished out a packet of sugar from my purse and handed it to my friend who said the sugar made it much more bearable. The Mexican was perfect all on its own. It was spiked with just the right amount of alcohol and tasted a bit like hot chocolate. I’d recommend it. I’m not sure how I feel about the vibe at this place. We were one of two parties at the café and when we walked in we weren’t sure whether we should take a seat and wait for a waiter or go up to the counter and order. The bar area is separate from the rest of the dining area which makes it difficult to communicate with the waiters who didn’t walk around very often. They also could’ve used some music to liven the place up a bit. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return to this restaurant but if in the area might stop in for another Mexican beverage.

I have only been to Hazel Room for brunch, so my rating and review doesn’t reflect any experience outside of the 8AM to noon menu/timeframe. That being said, Hazel Room’s brunch menu, atmosphere, and service make it one of my top choices in Southeast Portland. The biscuits and gravy are a great choice for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. The pork hash is also a top-notch choice if you’re a fan of fennel and pork shoulder. The outdoor seating is usually abundant on Saturday and Sunday, just be sure to get there before 9AM if you want to avoid a long wait. Lastly, the servers are highly accommodating. We usually bring our dog and infant, and they adjust seating so it’s least difficult for our menagerie. All-in-all, we really like Hazel Room. Not much to criticize and a whole lot to love.

I had heard damn good things about this place, so my lady friends and I stopped in on a Wednesday morning around 10. There was no wait, in fact at one point we were the only ones there. The servers seem to all pitch in at each table, which on a slow, mid-week morning worked out well. The space itself is very small, I imagine the wait can get bad quickly on a weekend. The menu offers a really great variety, and GF/Vegan/Veg options abound. I love a veg-centric menu, because it so often feels like an afterthought or obligation. My friend’s TMB looked really good, others at the table got the Hazel Plate which looked pretty standard. My Thai Breakfast was the winner though, with its deliciously fresh veggies sauteed in a peanut sauce, pickled cabbage, and a runny egg. I opted for the cheddar onion biscuit, and good God. Get that. My matcha tea latte was also legit. I do think the prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for here.

The Hazel Room makes fantastic brunch dishes and cocktails that are innovative, filling, and skillfully prepared. While their menu changes periodically, every meal I’ve had here has been excellent. Nestled in a handsome old house, The Hazel Room is small, but even when full, it’s easy to hear here. I can definitely recommend this place for brunch dates, as well as a rendezvous with friends after a night of hitting the town. I can definitely see myself bringing out-of-town guests here, too. Lines are sometimes a problem, but stay the course, people, it’s worth it! I ordered the pork hash, which came with wilted greens, a sunny egg, and a cheddar-scallion biscuit. The pork, cooked in a mix of pink peppercorns, cola, and fennel seeds, was superbly tender, while the potatoes were cooked just the right amount. The hash had enough salt to make it addictive. The herbaceous greens complimented these hearty flavors nicely, as well. The egg was beautiful atop the hash, also cooked just right. My only wish with it was that I could’ve had a second egg to get more of the yolk in the hash, the way I like. I’ll order an extra with it next time. All this deliciousness was served with a beautiful, thick wedge of grilled, caramelized grapefruit, which capped the meal off perfectly with its balance of sweet, sour, and bitter. All this was well worth the $ 13 I paid for it, especially considering that such a dish could easily be more at a number of other PDX brunch spots. While I didn’t get to taste my friend’s «BYOB Sandwich,» she liked it a lot. Served on a biscuit, hers had bacon, cheddar, scrambled eggs, and apple butter, but myriad options exist for different sauces, cheeses, and meats to put on it. It’s a little lighter an option than the pork hash when ordered by itself, so if you’ve got a bigger appetite, you may want to add the greens and potatoes on the side, which they offer to do for $ 4 extra(it’s $ 7 without them, $ 11 with). If you’re feeling particularly hedonistic, The Hazel Room also makes excellent morning drinks. Pretty much all of these drinks run in the $ 8 range. I’m partial to their«Bloody Helga,» made with aquavit instead of the usual vodka. It’s spicy, but not like drinking a glass of hot sauce, either. I love how the caraway in the aquavit melds with the tomato, horseradish, spices, and citrus in the mix of the drink. My friend, who’d never had aquavit before and is generally sensitive to strong tastes in her drinks, loved it so much that she ordered one for herself after tasting it! It’s garnished elaborately, with a pickled green bean, an olive, a pearl cocktail onion, and a celery stalk. If you want a thickly-salted rim, though, you might have to ask – only part of it is salted(I think that they assume that due to the nature of the garnish, people prefer to drink it through a straw instead). If you get a Bloody here, remember that unlike at some places, The Hazel Room treats these as serious drinks, not just a smidgen of liquor drowned in mixer. They are as smooth as they are potent. If you’re craving something a little softer, as my friend was initially, I can also recommend the«Mexican Mocha,» which was sweet, with a touch of heat. It’s got coffee, Bailey’s, cayenne, Kahlua, cinnamon, and whipped cream. Probably better on a cold day, but I still liked it when I tasted it on the 4th of July. The menu changes a lot here. They always have a couple breakfast sandwiches, a few hash-like dishes or skillets, and a vegetarian entrée or two. Having had representatives of all of the aforementioned concepts here over several renditions of the menu, I can say that you can’t go wrong. While I almost never order a meatless item when meat dishes exist, I can even vouch for what they do with vegetarian breakfasts! Plenty of items on the menu can be substituted, too, if that’s your thing. Flavors they work with range greatly, including classic American breakfast concepts, Mexican spices, Chinese marinades, and Italian ingredients. Trust the chefs – they know when to combine differing flavors and when to keep to a theme. You won’t find needless«fusion» here, but you will almost certainly take note of the menu’s creativity. What I like best about The Hazel Room is that its chefs are experts in bringing new food concepts to life for a meal, but still keep a foot firmly rooted in traditional breakfast dishes. This is hard to do. When a chef adds multiple complexities to a dish, or a bartender puts another ingredient in a drink, there comes a greater risk of something not meshing well with something else. It’s easier to be good and simple than good and complicated. The Hazel Room takes the harder path, and performs excellently. Its expert kitchen and bar staff manage to make elaborate meals and drinks that transform already-good meals into something extraordinary.

Tea: on point. Crème de la earl grey is a taste of elegant and royal sophistication. Food: even more on point. Egg and prosciutto sandwich is bae with a sweet tomato jam that soaks up the bread deliciously. I’ve also had the pork hash, which has smoky chunks of pork shoulder tossed with Yukon gold taters and a choice of toast or biscuit on the side. GOFORTHEBISCUIT. It’s a delightful cheese and onion creation that is perfectly toasted on the outside and has just a hint of crumbliness on the inside. My parents got the Tall Boy, a staggering biscuit sandwich with much meat, which also includes a free Olympian beer(locally made) if you’re 21+! Note: any dish here can basically become gluten free, vegan, or vegetaran if desired. This is quite a versatile place! Add in all the cute vintage touches and the cozy home atmosphere at this restaurant, and brunch is sure to be a jolly yummy affair at The Hazel Room. I’d definitely bring friends/visitors here.

Such a chill spot on Hawthorne, I look forward to coming back here. I love the outside seating, there were water dishes outside for my dog, and the vibe of this place is on point. Oh, and the very cute server is a plus. I went with the Tall Boy biscuit sandwich which was slammed with all sorts of meat — chorizo, whatever else, bacon and egg. Smother this bad boy in gravy and a side of potatoes and you got yourself a heart attack of heaven. Not to mention, it come with a Tall Boy can of beer. I felt that this dish was delicious however, the gravy could have used some improvement as it was a bit bland. Other then that though, a great spot for breakfast or brunch, and an excellent spot to hang out outside. Looking forward to coming back and trying more items.

Our prosciutto and egg sandwich perfectly hit the spot when we came here on a Saturday afternoon, just before they closed for the day. I loved the runny yolk and the crunchy toast, and that tomato jam was the bomb-diggity, sweet and savory, so perfect! The potatoes could be a little softer, though(and being a potato fiend, I’d like to have more…) The service was friendly, but they definitely get busy so don’t expect a whole lot from the staff. The drinks are good(strong). I had one of the tea cocktails, with pumpkin spice and rye — it was very balanced, with just enough bite at the end! I like how this place doesn’t give you a five-page menu for you to choose from. What they have are things they are good at making, and I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the items!

Just a quick little review as we only stopped by for a coffee and bloody mary. The cold brew coffee here is mild with a slight smokey flavor from the roast. Bloody mary was pretty standard, but had a nice touch of grated horseradish in there i’m pretty sure. My sis and i were food gawking the patrons around our table. The breakfast looked awesome, and the french toast looked AMAZING. The french toast was a thick slick of brioche bread with some crazy delish toppings, i forget what they were from the menu but would def order that if i came back.

If you want a charming place to sip tea or a fun! cocktail of your choice, or some of the most delightful food, try out The Hazel Room. I’ve been hearing and reading about it for over a year now, and finally got to try it out! I had one of the best salads I’ve ever had; it was so beautiful, light, and refreshing. It was one of those times when I could feel myself getting healthier by the minute! Beautiful raspberries and blackberries danced(yes, danced!) in the lightest lemon vinaigrette! The smoked trout nicoise was incredible with olives, toast, and their tomato jam! Wow, so savory and sweet, a perfect complement! This is a light and bright place, small(so expect a wait, I’d guess on weekends, though we went on a weekday and it was easy to get in!), and delightful, with great service. Yay!

Came in here with a gluten free friend and had an awesome breakfast! We sat at the small bar against the wall and although it looked like it would be cramped it was perfect. While we were lucky enough to come before the crowd, when we left there was a decent amount of people sitting outside waiting for a table. The place itself is small and looks like it was an old home that was cut in half and turned into the restaurant and another place next-door. I think this would be a great place to come in summer when it’s a great day to sit outside. We started with the rose hips tea made into a latte with hemp milk. Yum! It was very interesting flavour and took a few sips before I got the hang of it, but it was very good. I got the vegan/gf french toast and she got the tofu sausage sandwich. They both were awesome. The french toast is soaked in coconut milk overnight and the bread is homemade. Holy moly it was good. The spices were perfect and the pecans and coconut flakes were a lovely touch. You should try this! I would have a hard time trying new things on the menu it was so good. The tofu sausage sandwich was really good too. The tofu was seasoned very well and although it was the same bread, you wouldn’t know it without all the preparation for the french toast. It was still really good too. The side salad was nice and light with a good dressing on it. The staff was very friendly and excited for us. I can easily see myself coming back for more.

Brunch is the staple of Portland, and on my first Sunday here, I came to the Hazel Room. Walked in around 11:30am, and signed my name on a long list of people waiting. The restaurant is nestled in a house, sectioned into two parts. One part the restaurant seating and one part small hand made in portland things. The waiting took about 30 minutes to be seated for two. The waitress kept calling people who weren’t there waiting. So eventually she skipped two people names and came down to me. Once we were sat down, we wasted no time to order, and then again more waiting. Took about 30 minutes for our food to come. For drinks we ordered the Americano and a 24oz pot of tea. The lady darjeeling tea was distinctive and I fell in love with the flavorful tea. For brunch we ordered the Kale + Pulled pork baked eggs and the Chorizo and maple biscuit sandwich. The kale and pulled port baked eggs came in a small hand held skillet with the most creamy eggs and delicious pulled pork. I wasn’t too big of a fan of the kale, it was a bit too sour and did not go with the dish at all. The baked eggs also came with a scone. My chorizo biscuit was delicious but small. It came in a cheddar biscuit the size of my fist topped with sweet maple chorizo, baby arugula and a sunny side egg; with a side of stacked potatoes. The chorizo was a bit too sweet but delicious and flavorful on top of that flaky biscuit. The stack potatoes came out fresh from the deep fryer and needed a bit wiping off the excess fat. All in all the whole entire brunch process was really long, from the waiting for a table time to the the time the food is served.
