Love this place. I work nearby and this is my go to lunch spot. The owner is a wonderful, gracious host. Food is excellent. Best lunch price in town. Quiet, peaceful atmosphere to let me escape the busy day. Love thie place.

Stumbled across this place on a fluke! Stopped in after another place my dinner party was planning on eating was closed. I was greeted warmly as I entered the door by a man I assume was the owned. He quickly lead us to the table and offered to take our drink orders. First off I was surprised at how affordable the drinks were. They do not have a full bar but the beer and wines were priced at what most places would offer only during happy hour(if not better). The food was fantastic! We all ordered different dishes from rice to noodle dishes as well as curries and were not only impressed with the quality of the food but also the portion sizes. If you are in the Hawthorne area, this place is a must if craving great food and great service. If you just live in Portland, this place is worth seeking out. I know I will be back.

I had a really good experience here. The one guy working the floor(as others have mentioned) was exceptionally friendly and gave us free hot tea, albeit it said they’d charge us for it on the menu. I asked for my pad kee Mao to be extra spicy and extra spicy it was. The lemongrass chicken was also super yummy. I think the highlight of the meal was actually the spicy wings. Those were ridiculously good. If nothing else, come here for the service. It’s so ridiculously good. The ambience is weird as hell, but the experience was genuinely good.

This place was pretty good, it’s in a great location and the staff was friendly. There wasn’t much exciting on the menu or about the food, it was your usual Thai cuisine.

Love love love! I originally discovered Thai Dish in the Canby Location but much rather go to the Hawthorn location because of the feel and option to walk around after. My favorite is certainly the pineapple fried rice and ribs. All the food is fresh and full of flavor.

I was super impressed. On a street with several other Thai places, you have to be something special. This place fits that bill. The staff was friendly, and even on a carry out the owner stopped and chatted with me, gave me some delicious hot tea, saki and wantons. I ordered the Masaman Curry, and asked for chicken instead of beef. Now I’m home I can say the flavor is fantastic. Not to sweet. The chicken was cooked perfectly. And $ 8.95 for dinner where most the places locally I’ve gone to are $ 12.95+ for a similar meal? That’s just awesome. So why four stars and not five? I’m holding off on five till I go back and try more of the food. However I will be back. Places like this can’t be missed!

If you are looking for information on appearance or ambience. Please look at other reviews. I will stick with the food. They offer a typical lunch special menu. All the favorites are there. Kung Po. Cashew Chicken. Etc.etc. You have a choice between chicken. pork shrimp or beef. Nothing out of the ordinary but also what you would expect. Two stars just for being what you say you are. The food came out and it was a great presentation. Seems to be the typical now. Dish on one side and the rice on the other neatly stacked or shaped in this case. It all looked rather pleasing. Plenty of flavor upon the first bite. I ordered the Spinach and Brocoli with Chicken. However there seemed to be something under the initial appearance. That something being water. The sauce was completly watered down. Losing its initial flavor as it went down. Near the end nothing but a watery mess as it seperated more and more fro. its original combination. I will say this. I wanted to give it four stars i really did. The waiter is super friendly fast attentive to every need. Works the entire restaurant himself. as others have noted. but Alas this is about the food. The food needs to stand alone. I am all for a place that looks nice and is clean but there needs to be food that i can say hey i would recommend this to a good friend and here is why. I wouldnt recommend this place with so many other options so close by. I would say if you are hungry and in a hurry for some Thai this place is open and the owner is very nice service will be fast. Sorry other Unilocalers i dont seem to agree with you on this one. The food is watered down at best

Everything was very fresh. The vegetables in my stirfry were very fresh and plentiful. The tofu was fresh(you’d be surprised at how this is not the case in all places near here) and flavorful. The service was good too. I asked for brown rice and they were happy to accommodate. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars(I would give it 4 and a half if I could) is because despite one person in my party ordering«mild» and another ordering a level of spice above that, they tasted about the same… maybe they were hesitant to make it too hot for wimpy Americans? Luckily there was a spice tray so we added some heat.

Riding through this area I remember I hadn’t eaten, and it was dinner time, I mean, what’s up with that? I scoped them out and read some decent reviews so I locked my bike up and went inside. The vibe is a bit weird, it was an older guy behind the bar taking care of business, and that was about it. He brought me water and silverware fast, was VERY polite, and gave me plenty of time to go over the menu. The dining area appears pretty clean, nothing terribly offensive of note, and the theme was consistent. I decided on a quick snack and selected the spring rolls — which are a bit different than you’d expect — and a side of sticky rice. The waiter checked up on me twice while waiting for my food(really) and was again attentive after I started eating. The rolls were crispy fried and smaller than usual but stuffed with a very tasty mix. Dunked in the orange sauce and mixed with a bit of sticky rice and I was back on my feet in less than a half hour, under $ 10 and ready to go. I’ll try this one again if I’m in the area. I haven’t had the chance to try other Thia places in PDX yet so this may be updated.

This place is awesome! Everything is super fresh and the service is fast. The owner is wonderful and interacts with his customers. The Tom Kha soup was amazing and so was the red curry and pad Thai; all had the perfect amount of spice! The Thai iced tea was also delicious! We will be back again and again!

Visiting from out of town. I’ve had a lot of Thai food over the years. The flavor profiles are on point. Coconut soup was excellent, pad Thai solid. Previous reviews stayed that the chicken satey was really good. I normally find it difficult to say chicken satey is really good, but it was. The chicken was tender and the flavors once again were on point. The menu is a stereotypical Thai menu. No tricks or gimmicks just solid Thai. Oh, the service was excellent.

Wanted a very simple clear broth soup with noodles and chicken for my 3 year old son. Very flavorful and tasty. Also their vegetable egg rolls are delicate and delicious. Service was very hospitable like going to a family member. Go it’s great.

The owner and cook was a WONDERFUL host, and the food was also dee-LISH-ous. My husband and I were well-dined, served, and made for to feel like we were in a European café or restaurant from the manner of the host/owner. The prices, however, were wonderfully accessible. Ka pun ka, Thai Dish.

Portland is so saturated with Thai restaurants and most of them have let me down at one time or another. However, Thai Dish has been consistently above average. The food is tasty(as an added bonus, the pineapple fried rice comes in a hollowed-out pineapple) and the service is above and beyond. I’ve typically seen the same guy working there and he is one of the friendliest people I have ever met in the service industry. They’re not usually too busy(mostly carryout orders) so there’s never a wait on a table and the food comes pretty quickly. It’s not the closest Thai restaurant to my house but it’s the one I go to the most. It’s got seating, great services, great food, and the price is reasonable.

Thai dish made my Friday a happier, fattier place to be. Pickup was ready within 15 minutes of my order, and the bag weighed a freaking ton(the ultimate takeout pass/fail). Spicy basil noodles were hot and wide, a bit greasy, but popping with tasty tofu and broccoli. The curry fried rice was giant, with bits of crispy fried basil in every other other bite. My girl liked it best, but I thought the chicken was weirdly dry. The summer rolls were like the bastard child of plastic wrap and dashed hopes. Skip that ish. Pro tip: Refry BOTH sets of leftovers together the next night and serve with a glass of poor kid wine. Ladies love it.

Thai Dish is one of my favorite places to dine at on Hawthorne, especially when I’m looking for something spicy and filling. The service is always good and they are very attentive, however it pains me to rate it one star because of the quality of food served has dropped along with customer satisfaction. I came here with a big group of people and we’ve all had Thai food before, so we weren’t strangers to the menu. We all ordered the pad kee Mao which is suppose to have wide noodles sautéed in sauce meat and veggies. What arrived at our table of 8 was nothing to be considered noodles. Each one of our dishes, I repeat, EACHONE looked like a pile of mush and veggies. The noodles weren’t even shaped anymore, they were broken in scattered chunks of sogginess and drowned in sauce. You couldn’t even pick them up with chopsticks because that’s how soggy they were! My friend who ordered the pumpkin curry had his appetite taken. It was overly sweet and didn’t really have much pumpkin or substance inside of it(barely any meats) they pretty much served him a bowl of pumpkin juice with a small side of rice for 10 $+ When the waitress lady came by and asked how our food was, I mentioned to her in a soft voice that the noodles were overcooked and had asked if she could fix it. She simply just nodded and never came back. She then sent another waiter to our table and he only asked my friends what they thought about their food, they quietly poked at their plates and said it was OK. Since they are so soft spoken compared to me it was hard for them to reply. When it came time to pay I went to the register and again mentioned how dissatisfied I was with the quality, and all the lady said was thank you then nodded sheepishly. I was disappointed. No attempt to adjust our food whatsoever! The water refills came aplenty but that was it. If you’re going to dine here I suggest you are very very firm about how you want your food!!! They will take advantage of your shyness for profits!

Thai Dish prepares food complete with full-bodied flavor. Served with a warm peanut sauce, the salad rolls were delicious and had the perfect balance of mint and other veggies. More sauce would have been nice but overall they are worth an order or two for the table. Chicken Phad Thai was excellent — One of the best I’ve had in Portland. The Spicy Basil Noodles were good as well. Not too spicy but still a kick. Groupon redemption was easy. If I’m in the area and craving Phad Thai I’ll be coming back here. Probably ordering take out though. The dining room only had one other couple in it while we were here for dinner(7:00pm on a Wednesday), but I suspect a majority of their business is take-out which may be explained by the event that took place mentioned below. There was only one really weird thing: From the time we sat down to the time we left there was an employee of the restaurant standing by the kitchen, facing the dining room, and staring at the customers. Every time a water glass would become more than one-third empty she would rush over and fill it up. It was very unnerving and I felt as though I was being watched the whole time. I’m sure this wasn’t the case and that the intention of the restaurant was to make sure no one ever ran out of water, but it made for a weird eating experience.
