If I were to rate Thai Cottage on food alone I’d give it four stars but on account of their customer service I can only give it two stars. Firstly, If one tries to order take out your better off calling a week ahead of when you want it. NOONEEVER answers the phone or it’s just a busy signal for hours on end and a voice mail never picks up. Dining in is fine, but if there’s even just one single table occupied it still takes them 20 minutes to serve your order. The food alone stands to be quite good, which is why I return over and again hoping for better customer service.

After a couple years of just ordering delivery, me and my husband decided to have a meal here before catching a movie down the street. The interior is clean and nicely decorated. And the food is honestly way better than the delivery ever was! Super fresh, big portions, lots of flavor. We ordered the fresh summer rolls with shrimp to start, and shared the Crab Fried Rice(YES!) and the Pad See Ew. I only wish the fried rice had a little more flavor to it, but the crab felt a little sinful – in a good way. Really enjoyed our meal here and will be back!

Good food and decent look but the one thing I don’t understand is why they did not ask us if we want anything besides water to drink. But their Pad Thai Shrimp is good but it’s 12 dollars for 5 pieces of shrimp.

The only reason this place gets good reviews is because the people that give the reviews have no taste or sense of what Thai food should be. If you like poorly seasoned, soggy, cold, the wrong side of freshness thai food, you will love this place. Stop saying this place is good St. Johns, its not. The service is great, the place seems clean, they have the makings to be great.

Best fried chicken wings. Order from this place at frequently, but then again, it’s the only place in town. The inside is awesome, crappy bench seating but cool vibe.

I have eaten here a handful of times and it has always been delicious. I like my Thai food hot, and wow! They make it hot! Portions are good, price is okay and taste is consistent. Plus they deliver!

I really hate to give Thai Cottage a bad review because their yellow curry is the best thing on earth, with it’s perfect mixture of sweet and spice. However, I have eaten here about 5 times and honestly I don’t think you get what you pay for. They charge $ 12 for shrimp curry and they give you 5 shrimp, FIVE! And the amount of rice that they give you is a complete joke. It’s rice, it’s almost free! Don’t be stingy with the rice! I can’t comment on the service because I usually do take out. But I just can’t count of Thai Cottage to satisfy my shrimp curry cravings anymore. :(

The food here is mediocre at best and the main reason I eat it is because they deliver which is usually a nice thing at the end of a long week. Tonight I called and ordered delivery and the woman on the phone didn’t take down any information from me. I realized this about 15 minutes later and called back to check and see if they needed my information. After an extremely annoying 9 minute phone call, they finally got their s*&t together enough to realize they mistakenly wrote it down as a pick up order, tried to blame me for the miscommunication and told me they would get me my order«sometime tonight.» The food is consistently meh and their inability to take a simple phone order is just not worth the hassle. To call this place inconsistent is generous. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes for my food, when they FINALLY delivered it, the order was full of chicken instead of the tofu I ordered. This place sucks. Stay away.

This place is fantastic! They have a wide variety of Thai food and it is all very good. The food is priced very well and they are very large portions. I had the Pad Se Ew and it was great. They also have a very nice wine and beer selection. I’ll be back here again for sure!

We’ve been here four times and every time it’s different. This was most likely the last time. When we got there the place was close to empty but it took a good 10 minutes for them to come with menu’s. Then we ordered wine and that took forever. When we placed our order our meals were served after what seemed like a very long wait and then they still forgot the wine. Their chicken curry was really tasty, however, their sticky rice was absolutely horrible. It was one huge blob of gook all stuck together. It took a knife to get any pieces. What a disaster. The peanut sauce that we ordered for our salad rolls was just horrible as well.

This place is the place I always turn to when I am looking to get away from dorm food at UP! Their delivery times are quite long so I’d advise to order in advance before you get hungry. I really like their Pad Pak, it has mussels in it and scallops! I also came in the store to eat once, I didn’t realize it was a seat yourself kind of place. Their waiter was very nice but the service felt a bit slow.

Food here was amazing! Every dish we order was spectacular! Probably one of the best places to eat in St. John’s, the chichen pad thai was very good, the drunken noodles just perfect, the orange chicken super tasty, even the sticky rice was delicious, everything was perfect! We went on a very busy day(St. John’s Bizzare) so maybe that’s the reason the service was very slow, and we had to wait for our food for a long time, we were getting a little frustrated, but when we got our food, we thought it was totally worthed, plus our waiter was very nice. We seated outside since it was a beautiful sunny day, it’s nice that they have setting inside and outside. Prices were very good, we were happy to see the total of our check. We will definitely be back, hopefully service is faster next time, but we totally recommend this place, great food!

My favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. There are quite a few vegan options and the service is always friendly and kind. I would definitely try it out if you’re in the area. It’s probably one of the best Thai restaurants in Portland in my opinion.

VERY inconsistent service. We were there for almost two hours. First waited 15 minutes to have our order taken, then an HOUR to get our half of food and then ANOTHER half hour to get the rest. During that time we watched THREE tables walk out after being completely ignored. Inversely we watched the freaking table right next to us turn over twice, each couple getting plate after plate of delicious food and repeated refills. What the hell!!! The food was amazing, but by the time we all had plates I was too angry to enjoy it. The menu was extensive and I would have loved to explore it more thoroughly; but it took more self restraint than I thought I had to not eat off of the plates of the people sitting next to me. Nothing’s worth that kind of frustration! No way I’m going back! I’m sticking with Thai Noon from now on.

The person who said this is better than Pok Pok must have had a stroke, had his tongue surgically removed, or simply has never eaten there. We’ve given this place three tries. Each time with the same results: everything that was once green is brown — cooked to flavorless mush. The cook(s) kill the food via citruscide — so much lime juice that you don’t taste much else. But the worst part: every vegetable you were hoping for in your roll, soup, salad, noodle or rice bowl barely makes it into the dish. My guess is that Thai Cottage is keeping their operating costs low by skimping on the veggies. Let’s be honest: places like Thai Cottage exist because they’re in St. Johns. Little competition means places like this can continue to overcharge and underdeliver. We’ll continue leaving the neighborhood for good Thai. P. S. The place does look clean, and the service is friendly(and fairly prompt). But food counts for 100% of my review.

This place is pretty good! Their curry, specifically the yellow and Panang varieties are really tasty! I didn’t give more stars because the friendliness of the staff varies based on days — sometimes very friendly, sometimes very clipped and lacking in warmth — and the food is not always consistent, for example, I ordered the same curry on 2 different occasions and it was made 2 different ways with very different ingredients. Also, the crab wantons are NOT good, but other than those notes, they are worth a try for anyone looking for flavorful Thai food!

Thai Cottage is in my top 3 favorite Thai places in all of Portland. Fresh ingredients, excellent flavors, huge menu and pretty good customer service. They often have unique seasonal specials too. Highly recommend this place.

Our first visit to Thai Cottage was pretty mediocre. They have to picnic tables out front, and some booths and tables on the inside. The air conditioning is a plus on a hot day! The menu is expansive and I opted for the beef salad(my favorite) and a side of sticky rice. My guy guy the lemongrass pad thai. I found my beef salad to be on the sweeter side, when it should be more vinegar/lime side. I did like the addition on green beans and it had a ton of other veggies which I liked. My guy really enjoyed his lemongrass chicken. It looked and tasted like high quality meat, and the portions where big. The service was pretty spotty. They only came around to take your order, drop of food, and drop off the check. Request for condiments and a straw took a very long time to fulfill. Given the proximity to our house and the food, I am sure this will not be our last visit.

I’ve spotted this restaurant while waiting for the bus in St. Johns. It attracted me with its fresh yellow paint and white shutters that make it stand out from all the other buildings. My plans for eating there were waylaid by a hot day and tiredness that made me want fresh food for a hot summer night. I was searching through Unilocal for delivery outlets and was thrilled to find Thai Cottage did indeed deliver both by car and via some fabulous food. I ordered the summer rolls and green papaya salad with shrimp. The summer rolls were crispy with veggies and a nice number of prawns per roll(and some sort of licorice-tasting herb(anise?) which really gave a new kind of not-overpowering oomph to the rolls. One dipping sauce was excellent(sweet chili hot sauce with plenty of vinegar) and the other dipping sauce was literally warmed up chunky peanut. Hmmm, yes to the sweet/sour chili sauce and a big no to the warmed up peanut butter. However, the warmed up peanut butter was really the only misstep in this fine feast. The best bet would be to mix the two together and would be quite delicious. The overall winner for deliciousness and best bang for the buck was the green papaya salad with generous helping of shrimp. Also included were some cabbage, green beans, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and peanuts. The dressing was sour, sweet, fishy, salty, and hot. All the veggies, papaya, and shrimp stood up well to the dressing and were just so good. It took me awhile to get through the salad because there was quite a lot to eat. This was a delicious and cool meal I didn’t have to cook on a hot summer evening, and it’s always so nice when it’s delivered by a friendly person and arrives in good condition. I will re-review when I go into the restaurant some other day, but my evening was really made by this wonderfully tasty delivery meal.

I love Thai Cottage. But I must say, I always order to go. This is a last minute, I’m hungry, give them a call, type situation! The food is perfectly portioned to share, might as well order a few for the table. I have ate here twice with my sister, the service was average and they seemed to only have one server trying to manage everything. Which is tough. Recommend ordering to go & taking it home!
