I visited Swank the day before Valentine’s Day, on a Saturday, not realizing they’d have their special menu out. Upon arriving I asked if my Groupon would be honored and much to my vexation was politely informed by the server that it would not be valid owing to the special occasion. I was visibly irritated by this since nowhere in the Groupon’s fine print did it mention that holidays nullified the deal. In retrospect, I probably should have asked when I booked the reservation if a conflict might exist the day before Valentine’s Day. The server, seeing that I was obviously displeased and fearing that I might leave, asked his manager for a policy waiver and it was surprisingly granted. The gesture was appreciated and I was delighted to experience first rate service and even better cuisine. My pork chop was succulent and cooked perfectly with the juices expertly encapsulated in the meat and the bed of risotto with bits of apples was quite good and a fine complement to the protein – it may have been the best pork chop I’ve had in recent memory. My girlfriend’s trout was top notch. The flavor of my butterscotch pudding I won’t soon forget. Overall it was a pleasurable visit to a well appointed restaurant that clearly places customer satisfaction and service in high regard. I will return(and recommend to friends and family) with or without a Groupon ;)

Love this place. Went for breakfast. The eggs benedict were very good but my friend had the chicken and waffles — OMG so good. Sydney was our server and she was excellent. Would definitely go there again.

I truley enjoyed my small little lunch here today. Ordered the cream of califlower soup with a steak sandwich dipped in a beef onion broth. Totally satisfying as would be several items on the menue. Lots of salad and yummy entrée to choose from as well. Definitely a step up from the Dragonfish that was at the First floor of the Paramount for so long. Highly recommend stopping by for a pre fix tower movie experience. Great wine sections. Just a note, they also offer winemaker dinners that look totally devine

We came here on a date night and ordered some amazing grub! The atmosphere was very quaint and inviting with a great blend of modern and rustic finishes. Our table was not ready, so we sat at the bar and enjoyed the Watermelon and Lavender cocktail and dark Georgetown beer. Our bartender, Aaron, was very friendly and helpful with cocktail suggestions. Finally we were seated right on time for our reservation. The service was understaffed, but our waiter ensured we were refilled with water and cocktails while waiting. He was very attentive, even though he was very busy. We ordered the truffle Mac and Cheese, the Burger, and the Steak. First off– wow. The menu is small, but the flavor is large! Each bite got better and better. I can’t describe how delicious the meal was and how friendly everyone was. We will definitely be going back — ciao!

The interior of this restaurant is beautiful. It is spacious, yet intimate, and can accommodate groups of all sizes. Reservations are easy to make over the phone and OpenTable. This restaurant screams four stars — it is pricier food, but delicious, high quality, and good service. Our waiter was quick to provide water and gave us time to figure out our order, and checked in just the right number of times. We ordered the duck and the beef — both came in just the right portions. Not too little to make you feel like you just spent way too much on a couple bites of food, but also not too big to where you don’t have room for dessert! Both the duck and the beef were cooked perfectly and were juicy and flavorful throughout. For dessert, we ordered the butterscotch pot de crème with coarse sea salt on top and a thin shortbread cookie on top and a small side of ice cream. This was also delicious and a great end to the meal. But to be honest, I’ve had other desserts at this price point that have blown me away way more than this one. Still delicious, so no regrets, but I probably would not come back and order again.

We went with a group tonight and the server was visibly frustrated with us from the moment we were ordering drinks. A couple of us weren’t ready so we asked that he start at the other end of the table. We got an eye roll immediately. Mind you, we all ordered cocktails that weren’t inexpensive, but he was even more frustrated with us when we ordered dinner. We all wanted to try several things so we all were sharing entrees and getting multiple salads and sides, he was absolutely rude because our bills weren’t going to be high enough to make the tip he wanted. He didn’t bring bread, when every other table had it, had to be asked several times to refill water glasses and even forgot to put in one of the orders. He was never apologetic in any way. I will not be going there for dinner in the future. It’s only redeeming quality, the cocktails were very good.

5-star service, 3-star food. The entire staff was warm and helpful, and the food was good but not spectacular. Everything was very salty — I like salt a lot but some of the chips that came with the steak tartare were so salty they made my face pucker involuntarily. My husband also said his burger was extremely salty. The most unfortunate thing, though, was that both his burger and my salmon were ordered medium-rare but came out medium. That’s hardly a crime and they were both still very nice, but in a top-notch food town like Portland, that just doesn’t quite cut it. The prices are quite high too(nearly $ 30 for the overcooked salmon), so I don’t think they’re quite ready to compete with other higher-end restaurants in town. Enjoyable overall, but not quite the amazing experience we were hoping for.

Best place ever to get a drank or have dinner! Staff is very nice, professional and knowledgeable! Must come and see for yourself tho and is a must come for the experience! The beers on tap and selection they have for drinks are amazing!
I’m sad to say this was a miss for us. There’s plenty of crowd pleasers on the menu and the décor is tasteful, however the service was awful and the food was less than memorable. We had a large group and tried every single app, salad and side on the menu as share plates. Everything was kind of meh. Nothing really stood out, drinks took forever, and the whole experience was forgettable. Don’t plan to be back.

Food is great, atmosphere is good but service we got, not so much. Might just be the server we have but I would come back again if we get a different server.

Swank is a bit underwhelming. Service is good, interior is nice. Menu is not that big but, there are several options. The ½ chicken was ok. It was good but, not exceptional. The truffle flavored mac and cheese that came with it was pretty good. The burger was just ok. Totally unimpressive on many levels and not worth coming here for. Brussel sprouts were a bit overcooked. So, it’s not bad but, expected more from here especially with their prices.

Great décor, but service and food is pretty subpar. The waitress kept touching my plate and utensil which I find extremely off putting and the Northwest Hot Pot my wife ordered had to be sent back because the noodles came uncooked. The Second time was just as bad. It was also sitting on top of pure soy sauce broth. It was probably the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. The hostess is also pretty clueless as she kept talking to other employees RIGHT behind me throughout dinner. Quite frankly, the whole dining experience sucked. This restaurant needs a new chef and management. It’s kind of a cluster f.

So much to dislike about this place. The deco is great and the theme is spot on. My dining experience goes down hill from there. First, the chairs in this place are uncomfortable. As a tall guy, chairs often don’t feel right but these were to soft in the seat and hard on the back. Second, my server was nice but running all over the place so my water was empty, my order too forever and when I asked for their opinion I got none. The worst sins come from the food. My ding partner had a steak which was warm and the sides tasted like they have been leftovers mixed with some fresh. My meal was the smallest half of a chicken I’ve ever seen. The chicken was piled it on the Mac and Cheese(which had truffle which added nothing to the dish) and had tart swiss chard on the chicken. The combination was a total failure. It’s clearly a chef who doesn’t think of anything beyond how it reads on a menu. The worst thing to happen was my appetizer came out when I was almost finished my entrée. This turn out to be a good thing as it would have ruined my taste buds for entrée. It was the beef tartare which was ruined by a ton of salt and too many chilies ground in with the meat.

First, the positives: Great menu selections, excellent service, and relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Would definitely come here again. However…based on what we read, reservations were encouraged, which we made a day prior, no problem. The thing of it is, when one makes a reservation, there is an underlying and unspoken assumption that the restaurant makes special efforts to seat the reserved party at choice seating. This was not the case. There was no differentiating between walk-ins and reservations. Our table was in the middle of the room vs the walk-in before us was seated in the last available booth/window side. Next time, Swank, seat your parties appropriately.

My husband and I went to Portland to see a show for his birthday, and I was looking for the perfect spot for his birthday dinner… and thanks to Unilocal and all the reviewers, I found it! It turned out to be an intimate, romantic and delicious dinner spot. I made reservations ahead of time through Open Table, and I called two days before to request a birthday dessert with a candle. Before dinner, we spent some time at the bar across the lobby, Swine, which is a sister to the restaurant, which I recommend if you need to kill a little time before dinner. When we arrived at Swank, we were warmly greeted and saw that a small round table had been placed in front of the fireplace, giving us the most romantic seat in the house. Service was spot on, and after a bit of discussion, we decided on a bottle of local Pinot Gris, as we were new to the area and wanted to try something local. We started with the salt and pepper calamari and the heirloom tomato and nectarine salad. I chose the scallops and my husband ordered the fillet. Truthfully, I would recommend everything… but the scallops were most memorable in my opinion. The flavor, consistency and accompaniments were perfect. We sat for a long time, talking and sipping our wine, and though the restaurant was emptying out, we were never rushed. After dinner, they actually made us a delicious and free birthday dessert. I had just asked for a candle, but they went way beyond with a beautifully arranged dark chocolate mousse, vanilla ice cream and berry purée. This was truly an amazing meal. I recommend Swank. It did not disappoint.

I am back! Elyse at the door is more or less perfection for the front of the house. We came in to look over the menu and she was so lovely we grabbed a seat without even needing to look at the choices. She had our first course order in almost before we sat down. Our server Ben continues the theme of excellence. Asparagus salad, ahi tuna and scallops, yum!

This is a perfect location, right across from Director’s Park and the Fox Tower. Swank is the restaurant while Swine entertains a whiskey bar. We came here on a Groupon on a hot summer night, and the meal was amazingly seasonally, locally appropriate fyor the 100 degree temps. First, the décor is modern, dark wood, with chandeliers. The margarita I had was refreshingly salted on the rocks and strong. The highlight of the meal for me was the heirloom tomato and nectarine salad garnished with basil at $ 12, it was served on a long rectangular white plate easily split between 2 – 3 people. With the heat, I was not exceptionally hungry so I ordered a couple of sides. Again, a meal in itself — flash fried brussel sprouts Oregonian style with blue cheese and hazlenuts and HOLLA — bacon! I also ordered the truffle mac and cheese — the truffle poignancy was definitely a hit! To top it off, we had the chefs dessert –a shortbread tart served cool with black berries and pear and crème freche! We will be back! What a great place to make a date whether you hit the bar or the restaurant and perhaps a movie at Fox Tower or people watch in Director’s Park.

Upscale sister to Swine, we enjoyed the food quality and service, near theaters and in your hotel if you stay. The swine is same kitchen but bar food. They worked hard to get is the dessert from Swank, it was tasty!

This is my second time to Swank and I have finally made a decision about the review — good quality food and preparation, but the overall food direction seems a little murky. I am not sure if they are trying to be farm to table with freshness and local producers first(duck from Vermont, King Salmon from Alaska that they say is line caught, but the season has yet to come so definitely from a year ago or farmed — I stayed away), or are they trying to be more classic in there presentation. Still up for debate. Overall, the staff have always been very polite and helpful. When questions asked of the menu, answers are given or found out. I do feel picky about asking where there food is sourced, but the waiter did tell us that they were proud to try to be as local as possible. Love the space and ease of parking in the cinema garage across the street. The space is modern with a wonderful view of the courtyard at Director park — lively scene at night. Now to the food — we had six of us so I will touch on some the selections. The Foie Gras served whole and grilled was fantastic as always. The oysters from Netarts were perfectly cleaned and served with a wonderful and not overpowering mignonette which let the sweetness of the oysters shine — one of the best mignonette I have had in Portland. The beet salad with Troutdale produced beets was nice, clean and fresh with a perfect test of earthiness. Entrees — duck superb, but could have had the fat a little more rendered — just picky that way. Scallops — simple, fresh and cooked perfectly. Rib eye steak, painted hills, was a little on the thin side for me, and slightly med rare to medium, and definitely had rested too long because it was Luke warm when it got to me — also it came with fiddleheads which could be left off this plate. Overall, it is a place I would recommend, they just really need to define their cuisine and go for it. Food: 34⁄40 Atmosphere/ambience/décor: 17⁄20 — primarily because the bathroom is a journey to get too. Service/staff: 19⁄20 — like the manager making the rounds and checkin in Value: 17⁄20 Total: 87⁄100

Wonderful ambience and conveniently downtown location. We went for the $ 29 Portland dining out promo which included a choice of salad/soup, an entrée, and dessert. My friend had the wild green salad, half chicken, and a combination of blood orange & coconut sorbet. All were very delicious and tasty. Not much appeal to me as far as the entrées included on the promotion. I opted for the grilled foie(appetizer) & Apple bread and a side of root vegetable gratin. Both were deliciously rich — maybe too much. Swank does a wonderful job. Their service is exceptional!!! Loved out server who was able to describe the dishes in detail! Nothing really blew me away but it was still VERY good — I would encourage others to dine here as well!

Upon arriving to our hotel and spying the«Where to EAT Guide», we giggled over the name«Swank’n’Swine» and sang it in a jingley way. …laughter turned to drooling upon navigating the menu. CABPLEASE! Hotel dining has been making a comeback in the US, and Swank is certainly part of this trend. High ceilings, rustic wood and stone décor, stone/crystal/iron light fixtures with vintage-looking bulbs. Certainly very«Swank“y. On the Friday early evening, there were three other tables(plenty of space!). For round 1 my friends ordered the calamari! These East coast gals are selective when it comes to squid,(will West coast ‘mari be spicy? will there be peppers? will they stack up to RI-style?). Fortunately this platter of fried tentacles satisfied their salacity for sea creature. The pieces were thinner than in in the East, and were slightly sweet(huh?), but still a good selection. For my main I asked if there could be any substitutions for their meats; I’m a vegetarian, and there was only one menu option that I could go with. Their cod, mushroom risotto, squash and flavored butter sounded incredible(…so long as the cod could just be left on the side). Well… the risotto is cooked in chicken stock, and that’s all that came(no squash, no sprouts, no delicious butter… just risotto, not what I ordered). What *was* on my plate was delicious… but blamed myself for not having planned ahead better(there was a beet salad they they may, or may not, have been out of… but that was the only true Veg option and I had to looks elsewhere for sustenance). Friends devoured plates of pork cheeks(with bone marrow braised leeks $ 27) and maple duck(brussel sprouts and polenta $ 26). The plating was BEAUTIFUL — the platters were massive and the meat morsels were arranged into beautiful compositions. Drinks — — - YUM! I had two of the Dirty«1» Thirty(barrel aged belvedere, lemon juice, green teat, star anise syrup, yellow chartreuse, prosecco and«large rock» $ 12). …I had 2 and was feelin’ pretty good about life by the end of the night(even with a $ 136 bill). All in all — — - GREATCOCKTAILS and scrumptious food for carnivores and flexitarians, not a great veghead spot.
