I’ve named my children after their hamburgers… I had my family package up a burger and send it to me in Iraq(it was captured before arriving) because a two week old Stanich burger is probably still in the top 10 burgers on the planet!

Stanich’s in SW is closed — sorry for the bad news. But a new bar/eatery The Jolly Roger — which is related to the one in SE but a different feel to it. They are all set up with lots of big tvs for sports and it is a lot cleaner and GREAT beers on tap.

There are a lot of bad burger joints out there… there are only a handful of decent ones… but Stanich’s is my absolute favorite — NATIONWIDE. Go for the specialty burger(with everything on it), or don’t order at all. My only beef(pun intended) with Stanich’s is with their hours of operation. We’d love to make it a tradition to order a slew Stanich burgers before wakeboarding during the summer(It’s so close to Willamette Park), but they are closed on Sundays! Better yet — - offer a $ 5 delivery service to the Willamette park dock and I guarantee you we’ll make it worth your while! Oh ya… and it’s the 21st Century… so you should probably start taking debit cards at some point. Stanich burgers are so great, I don’t think twice about the other shortcomings of this establishment(credit cards, hours, OSU banner)…

I had the opportunity several months ago to eat at Stanich’s and I was one satisfied customer. «The Special» burger, a delectable combination of the perfectly cooked medium-well patty, bacon, ham, fried egg, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onions, special sauce(*cough* Thousand Island dressing *cough*) was to die for. I would mean that literally if you happen to subsist on that monstrosity. And, it was a monster– I could not open my mouth wide enough to bite it. I think even Steven Tyler would’ve had a spot of trouble. But when I started eating it, I couldn’t put it down. It was that good! Don’t bother even thinking about going to Stanich’s if you’re worried about your health. Stanich’s was what«cheat nights» or «splurge days» were made for. And their French fries, though oily to the max(wow, where’d that 80’s phrase come from?), was worth every bite. If you ever feel like cheating on your diet or if you allow yourself a splurge night, go to Stanich’s. It’ll be worth tipping the scales over. *** NOTE: This review is for the Stanich’s on NE Fremont ***

Wow. Once you pick up the Special, don’t plan on putting it down until you finish it otherwise you will have quite a mess on your hands. Actually, you’re going to have a mess regardless but keeping one hand on at all times will at least help minimalize the impact. Loaded with cheese, ham, bacon, egg, tomato, lettuce, onion, plus your basic condiments this burger is definitely a meal. I can appreciate if your tastes run toward a more«basic» burger without lots of toppings this might not be your cup of tea. But if you like a slightly greasy hamburger with all the fixins(and a cold beer), you will be hard pressed to find a better one than this. Easily one of my favorite burgers.

I love these burgers. The buns, the sauce, the fixin’s…all make a great burger. It sounds faintly ironic that one of my favorite things on a burger here is the lettuce. I love the way they serve it. And I still play ‘I Spy’ while I wait for the burger, just like I did when I was a little kid at the Ten till One… except now with a pitcher of beer.

My thoughts? Keep your expectations low and don’t bother with anything but the burgers. The fries are super greasy and the other sandwiches are mediocre at best. The burgers are pretty good but I wouldn’t agree with«the best» label. We live close by so they’ll do in a pinch but it’s really only a last resort. The service is beyond slow and they act like they’re doing you a favor by serving you. I agree with Courtney, Burgerville is a better option.

Burger lovers don’t agree You guys know that I love my burgers, but I love them plain with good sauce and not too messy. I guess that’s why I found Stanich’s disappointing. Billed as one of the best burger joints in town for years, I went in with high expectations, which we know never works. My friend ordered their ”Special,” a quarter-pound burger topped with a fried egg, ham, bacon and cheese. He really liked it and offered me a taste. I declined because honestly, it sounded too over-the-top. I ordered their cheeseburger with Thousand Island dressing, lettuce and onion. It was alright, but it was no Burgerville. As I said, I guess I like my burgers fairly plain with yummy sauce. Tip: Grab extra napkins.

This place consistently serves the BEST burger I have ever eaten. It’s called the World Famous. I’ve been there 5 times, and I’ve never ordered anything else. There is no need. The World Famous is one of those«everything-but-the-kitchen-sink» kind of burgers that has an egg, ham, and bacon on it as well as the usual tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, etc. Un-freaking-believeably good. Very, very casual place. The walls are covered with pennants and other flags/stickers, etc., from sports teams from around the country. You couldn’t get much more casual than this. Great place to relax. Surprisingly, I don’t remember a TV in the room, which I think is refreshing for a place that it dedicated to sports, well FOOD and sports.
