I thought the wonton soup with roasted pork was just meh. I had better from the place Macau down the street. I thought the roasted pork was a bit dry and overwhelmed the dish and the broth lacked flavor.

It’s a real restaurant making good food without attitude. You walk in and there are tables, tons of dumb shit isn’t everywhere on the walls. If you didn’t grow up in Portland than it’s the kind of restaurant that would make you feel at home. Plus, there may not be a better dish in cold Portland weather than the Wonton Soup from Good Taste Noodle House. For 6.25 or so, you get 6 wontons, a bunch of delicious egg noodles, and two pieces of baby bok choy. You leave filling warm and full.

However as you can see the BBQ is why anyone goes here. It’s kinda hard to get roast duck and BBQ or roast pork to go(deli style). It’s a sloppy place and they make no apologies for the mess. Get your duck and go home. other thoughts: Wontons — are not good here. The meat is spongie — Kenny’s noodle house is much better for that. The chowmein/chow fun is acceptable — Hongkong style btw. The congee is again not on par with Kenny’s

Came here on a chilly day craving for some soup. I’ve been here in the past and recalled that it was really good. This review caps my last two visits. Bland soup, bland wontons, bland siu kau. Only reason I come here now is if I’m ordering a whole pig.

Came here with some Filipino friends who love the place and it isn’t too hard to see why. All that beautiful smoked meat(principally, duck and swine), suspended in the air behind the glass, greets you as you come in, as if to say«Hello, friend. Protein deprived, lately? Not for long…» I found the service to be especially cheerful and on point here… I suspect that was owing to my dinner mates, who are loyal customers. Apparently the big noodle bowls are where it’s at here, and my was super delish, filled to the steeeenkin’ brim w/shhhmoked lil’ duckie chunks. If there is one resounding criticism of this place, it’d just be: I’d like to see more seafood options at this place. They’re just a stone’s throw from Ocean City, one of the widely acknowledged 800# gorillas in town. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… just don’t part ways w/your lovely, joy-inspiring smoked little greeters. They should be required party favors for any social gathering…

Small but very clean and cozy. Authentic Cantonese flavors but bigger cuts and portions. Very amiable service for a small Chinese restaurant. Pleasantly surprised.

My mom and I had ordered the meal for two. First they had brought out the porridge and as I was stirring the porridge, I found a fly. Yuck. They immediately took it to the back and later brought out a new batch(I’m hoping), but my mom and I decided not to touch it at all. I’m pretty upset. I won’t be going back.

We used to come here for wonton noodle soups since we are big fans of noodles. When the restaurant was under the original ownership, the food was excellent. We were always happy with whatever we ordered. We came here so often that we even know the owners personally. When we came back here a few months ago, it was under different ownership. I ordered my usual wonton noodle with beef brisket and I was so disappointed. Somehow the food didn’t taste the same as it used to. The portion seemed to be smaller and the quality wasn’t very good. The noodles and the wontons weren’t as good as I remembered and the broth wasn’t as flavorful. I don’t think we will come back here again.

Best authentic noodles ever! There’s a meat butcher right in the entrance with animal carcasses hanging from hooks so don’t bring your shitty vegan friends. This place will blow you away with their prices and their authentic flavor. They seem to take a lot of pride in their wontons and their duck is incredible. It took some coaxing to get my wife to come here but she loves it too.

It’s hard to find great Chinese food in Portland. I’m from Northern California and it has been really hard finding a good place. Most places I find are lacking taste. This place is adequate. I’ve been here several times and like their wonton soup and fried rice.

They always forgot the sauce when I get Togo. The duck is too salty, the wanton soup was plant but the wanton was ok. Mapo tofu was bad! I had tried 3 times. I guess I should learned my lesson. Go to the downtown one. That one is good.

Complete hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, definitely not the nicest tables or chairs, but delicious food. True, authentic Chinese food. All the waitresses speak Mandarin to each other and will write your order down in Mandarin. Because Chinese and American cultures are so different, the staff may come off a little bold, however this shouldn’t take merit away from the great food. Good Taste has the best wontons in town, and fantastic duck, pork, and shrimp. Definitely try Good Taste, and let your snobby American guard down and expect great food!

Don’t mistaken them for the downtown one! Not the same quality! The last time i was here in September 2013, i vowed to never come back because the food was so bad. One day i happened to be downtown and was hungry so i went into their downtown location, Super Bowl A was as good as i remembered. I was so impressed i brought the whole family back, they all approved. On Christmas day we went to the 82nd location thinking the poor experience was just that one time and they redeemed themselves. We were so disappointed! The meat for Superbowl A came out 15 minutes before the noodles. We finished the meat and waited around before the noodles came out. The meat was cold and they served us leftover boney pieces. The broth was bland with only 4 wontons, downtown give you 5 – 6 pieces. We waited around for our congee, not as creamy. Finally they brought out our extra order of duck and pork, again after waiting a long time in between each dish. Our roasted pork didn’t have skin, must have given our roasted pork skin to someone else. We noticed the names between the locations are slightly different, they must have parted. We will never go to the 82nd location again!

Best Chinese Noodle place I’ve ever had period! That said, it’s the only Chinese Noodle place I’ve ever been to. But they have something special there. Their special Wonton noodle soup is to die for! I’m a meat eater and this one totally hits the spot. Wonton, roast pig, roast duck! This is a soup for 3 but I’m happy to have it all to myself! I would take this over phở — to me it’s that good! Best wonton soup ever!!!

I have eaten here several times. This SE Portland location has a parking lot, which is definitely convenient compared to the downtown location. The food is very good. They are known for their noodle dishes including their wonton soup, but they also have good chinese BBQ meats, eg, duck and pork. Service is good and it doesn’t seem to get as busy as the downtown location.

I like this place. It’s a cozy hole in the wall restaurant like the other places in this area. Wife and I came here with our 3 month old and had lunch. Baby was sleeping and the waitresses saw our little girl and asked questions that most people normally do. How old is she? How many pounds? Wow, look at all that hair. My wife thought she ordered the Roasted Pork over rice, but they gave her the Roasted Duck over rice instead. She thought about returning it, but eh… she likes duck too. I ordered the Super Bowl A. It has Roasted Pork, Duck and BBQ Pork with won tons and noodles. Oh there was Shanghai Bok Choy as well. It wasn’t bad, it was filled with a lot of meat, thus more protein… thus you have fuel to last the whole day. The only problem with the dish is, it’s a mix of flavors from all the protein. The BBQ pork mixed with the roasted pork gave it a sweet and a little salty taste with it. But it sort of work in a way. I’m not sure how they came with that concept but I think it works. Probably was the cook saying«Hey, we got all this meat… maybe just throw it in with some won ton noodles and serve it like that?» One thing that is rare in most Chinese restaurants… they actually have a changing table! Being a new dad and all, having a changing table makes a big difference. I don’t have to go to my car and change my little diva’s diaper. Makes life easier, especially during the rainy season.

Wanted to like GTNH, and thought that they had good tasting Roast Pork and Roast Duck, but I was not a fan of their wonton /dumplings. Not sure the pork texture was cooked, but the meat was kind of pink…(Did they grind up old BBQ Pork and use it for WonTon /Dumpling filling?) On the good side, the family running the restaurant were very nice and friendly. Everyone else eating there seemed to have a side plate of BBQ/Roast Meat on their table, should have followed suit.

2.5 Stars. Meh. I’ve experienced better. The Pork and Preserved Egg«Jook»(congee) was fine. The Wonton Noodle Soup with Char Siu was sub par. The wontons had shrimp pieces instead of whole shrimps. I prefer the ground pork in wonton to be more coarse. The broth was too salty and no body. The Char Siu was too lean and not enough flavor. I’m from CA and the portions are bigger, prices are lower, and quality is better.

Best Won-ton Soup in Portland. I haven’t been here for awhile but last time I was sick, a warm bowl of soup just sounded ideal. It was a good choice! When you get a to-go order… boy, do they load the containers up with food. I normally get the Superbowl A with the roasted duck, roasted pork and BBQ pork without the egg noodle but extra won-tons. The broth is the best part but add a little bit of sate for spiciness. The amount of broth they give you for takeout is way too much for the won-ton, however, I just save it to make ramen later. It just hit the spot when I’m sick.

This is not my favorite place for Chinese noodle soup in Portland, but it is a great place for it, especially if you have a hankering for a GIANT bowl of it filled to the brim with some pretty legit roast pork with blistered, crispy skin, sweet bbq pork and crispy duck. The chili sauce on the table was solid and flavorful, adding a nice warm heat to my wontons. We also got some ong choy with fu yu(veggies with fermented tofu) — which I liked, but my mom found subpar as they served the bottom part of the plant and the sauce had sugar in it. The tripe was good — not as crunchy and well-cooked as some other places I’ve had in Portland, but not going to lie, we kept going back for more and the offal sauce was pretty tasty. The vibe is laidback and I appreciate that. As I was stuffing my face with pork and noodles, a server slid in next to me and said to my mom in Cantonese that they had miscounted my wontons and they owed me one. They just plopped a steaming hot wonton straight into my bowl — bloop! I never would have realized I was owed a wonton, but there you go. At $ 8.50, my superbowl had so much leftover, they were not able to fit it all into the large container. I’ll definitely be back for soup and bbq! Perfect for cold PDX evenings.
