This is your standard loose drinks and stiff women dive bar. The bartender, the same one every time I come here, uses a heavy hand when she pours which is always welcome. There’s even a decent tap selection if you’re in the mood for beer. I’ve only gotten waffle fries here, which are fried to order and steaming hot, but the other food doesn’t look bad either. There is a full kitchen in the back and it’s normal bar/diner food so it isn’t difficult to make. Plus the prices are extremely affordable. The décor here looks like it hasn’t been updated since sometime in the 70s and there’s something charming about that. However the place isn’t dirty. Everything looked like it gets cleaned pretty regularly and the bathroom was in much better shape than at some higher end bars. One thing keeping me from coming here more often is the hours. They aren’t open on the weekend which is a real bummer. I’d like to come to watch some football and get a bloody mary, but I can’t!

Awesome family run business to come grab a bite to eat after work and watch a game while waiting for traffic to clear up from rush hour.

I wasn’t a fan at all of this place. There is certainly something to be said for vintage throwback but this joint was down right skanky. I ordered a Shirley Temple and my partner ordered a standard PBR. Iv never been into a place that didn’t know how to make a Shirley Temple. They used water and a slash of grenadine. To top it off, an orange slice. It was disgusting. There were also three very obnoxious customers who were yelling back and fourth at each other. Just a unpleasant experience.

Interesting décor but absolutely horrible service. We went in last night, sat at the bar to watch the Lions/Seahawks game. At times, the 3 of us were the only ones in there, but she insisted on either hiding in the back, being on her phone or hanging out with her friends. Multiple times we had empty drinks. She was absent minded, unfriendly and definitely incompetent. After she’s fired, we might consider coming back. This will be shared with my friends.

Super cool and unique tavern. My dad grew up in this part of town and told me I should check the place out. So glad I did! I love the atmosphere, bar stools, décor, food and the service is top notch! Will be back here every time I’m in the area! Thanks Sloans!

Good place if you’re looking for somewhat of a dive. Their chicken tenders and fries were good. The IPA wasn’t the best on tap but that’s my only complaint.

Too bad people were saving chairs 6 actually, and no place to sit. Wanted to hear Gerle Haggard but had to leave. No «available» seating. Wow lost revenue for the bar with 6 seats being held.

I like this bar! Their hours are a bit weird, but they always show Blazers games and pour a stiff drink.

Sloan’s is a dive bar. That is for certain. There is the front part of a truck jutting out of a wall. It is easily found. The place is a dive bar. There is a menu with some dishes listed. There is an icebox filled with beers. The beers befit the usual purview of a tavern or a neighborhood pub. It does not pretend to be anything else.

How is this considered a gay bar? I did come in at 2pm on a Friday but this wasn’t what I was expecting in the slightest. Has quite the divey feel to it. I got a drink and then left.

My friend from Portland was(a) surprised this bar existed and(b) amazed that I went there and enjoyed myself. You see my 5-star review, yes? Fantastic bar food. You can tell especially by the French fries litmus test. The fries were definitely not those white, cheap ones that you get at cheap bars. Nice, solid fries and a really great chicken-fried steak sandwich. Wonderful beers on tap, of course. The best part: a dive bar where you feel comfortable. You know how you go to a neighborhood bar and there’s always that older, skeevy guy who is super annoying? He wasn’t at Sloan’s! And the atmosphere is open enough, and the bar staff is nice enough, that I don’t that skeevy guy would ever show up. Wonderful, wonderful bar. Go, get some beer, have some food, and just relax. They have free WiFi, I was able to stay as long as I needed to do some research for a job interview I had the next day.

Sloan’s is one of my favorite bars in Portland. The drinks are good, the food is good, the service is AMAZING and the whole place looks like 1976 threw up on it but in the most amazing way possible. Sure, it’s a little dive-y but not in the weird, unclean way, just in the way that you always feel comfortable there. I almost don’t want to write this review because I like that it’s not ‘over-run with hipsters’ as another commenter pointed out, something one is hard pressed to find in this city these days.

I just stopped in here for a beer before a show at the Secret Society. It’s a nice little dive type bar with cheap drinks and good service. The inside is funky and they have cool seats at the bar. The food looked really good and I’m excited to come back and try it.

I’ve been to Sloane’s 3 or 4 times in the past few months and this is the first I’ve heard that they were a gay bar. I’m not gay, but I love a great gay bar as much as the next straighty. This place is not a gay bar, not a straight bar, but it is a dive bar! And a damn fine dive bar at that! The staff are wonderful, the food is bar food, but good bar food, and the clientele range from seedy to painfully average. This may be the last dive in my neighborhood that hasn’t been overtaken by the Rainier-sipping hipster crowd. Uh-oh… here comes one now…

Grabbed a burger here before going to another nearby venue to watch a concert. Good fairly cheap eats here & pretty good live music too, a 3 piece blues band was playing when I was there. Only 3 or 4 people in the place(I was there on a Thursday), but the service & food was good. UPDATE: LOL okay I just noticed this is classified in Unilocal as a «gay» bar, and though I’m not gay it just seemed the same as any other place to me when I went there.
