Stopped by today to take a look at getting a board, trucks, wheels, etc etc for my daughter. Wasn’t really going to buy a set-up for her today but my inner skate kid of yesterday couldn’t resist hooking her up, especially since she was with me. Joel, helped us out. Got down several decks for her to check out. He even was cool when she asked for several lines in the grip tape. This is how every shop should be. Cool guys stoked to see the next generation of kids getting their first board to charge hard into the future of skating. I will return when it is my son’s turn to get a board. Support your local shop and riders!

Shrunken Head is rad. They carry the things I dig and have a welcoming vibe. I know when I spend money there it’s going to a family owned business that has been a part of the community for a very long time. Win win.

Being a skate tourist it was a must to check out the shop down the street from Burnside. Just the way a shop should be, simple, no frills, has tons of great products and offers up their own that in my opinion are some of the best out there. I skated with Rocco at Burnside without knowing he worked at the shop. Excellent staff, definitely will be visiting again next Portland trip.

OLDGUYALERT… OLDGUYALERT!!! Went into Shrunken Head Skateboards to pick up a tshirt for my skater son, and ended up sending 15 – 20 minutes in shop just visiting with the guy running the place on a Saturday morning. Very friendly and made us feel at ease and welcome. Talked about skateboard parks we are mutually familiar with, skating laws in Portland, skate parks in Texas… stuff to take home and look like a big shot to my son!!! Looks like these guys have a nice shop with lots of boards and parts. Would not hesitate in allowing my 15YO to shop in Shrunken Head on his own…

I like all the deluxe products they carry and spitfire wheels. But it dosent seem to be very oriented to street skaters. They definitely know their products though and thats cool. Ive unfortunately had a problem with every deck i bought here as well as a friend who bought a shop deck from them and cracked it in an hour of skating it. THey would give him a refund of zero nada nuthing and that sucks. Even if its business they could have had a great customer because he buys lots of product so well whaddya gonna do? Rip on Rippers but im probably not gonna go here again. Im sure others will love it but not my cup of tea although i wish it was because i love supporting local businesses.

If the guy I’m buying a skateboard from is not covered in scabs and assorted abrasions, I simply don’t want to buy a skateboard from him. Shrunken Head is very clearly skater owned and operated. I know that the guy behind the counter can probably do head-high frontside airs just by looking at him. While this might not mean much to you, it’s actually incredibly comforting to me, because I know that he actually rides the same gear that he sells… which in turn means that it is in his best interest to stock only quality products in his store. While the space may look small, I assure you that absolutely EVERYTHING you need is at hand. And lets face it: The ‘Skateboarder Identity’ is already co-opted by pretty much every facet of popular culture there is nowadays, so all you can do is try not to make things worse and support the guys who actually spill some blood for the sport. This means avoiding all the shitty mall shops and spending your money at places who are truly dedicated to the actual act of skateboarding. I know you can can get some sweet all-over-print sweatshirts at Zumiez and look like Ryan Sheckler or whatever, but the world has enough kooks already, don’t you think?
