My daughter has taken music lessons, music theory lessons, summer camp and is now in a Queen performance group at school of Rock. She loves it. The kids learn so much while having lots of fun and gaining so much confidence!

The group performance aspect really inspires students to learn. And the teachers and staff are great. Even more important for my daughter, it’s a place where a kid who feels different can fit in and feel good. My daughter has glasses and really struggles with that feeling. School of Rock is a place where she can feel cool — and like it’s ok to be herself. It’s awesome.

What a fun staff and a great environment for children to be around and be a part of. The multiple times I’ve been here I’ve been a pleasure overall. Seeing the joy on the kids faces they learn to play music and make new friends is what it’s all about. This place also gives children opportunity to live out the rock and roll dream and perform a concert in front of hundreds of fans. My only gripe, if I were to have one, would be that some of the kids that go there to learn aren’t very focused and spent a majority of the time in class goofing off which of course detracts from the other children’s time in class. The parents of the goof off kids should deal with this type of activity swiftly and decisively so as not to impact the children that are there to learn and put an effort to learn as well as the pocketbooks of the other children’s parents. Have some common courtesy people! It would be nice to see the staff boot those kids out of class for the day, I imagine that would only take a couple of times and they would have that straightened out pretty fast. That being said, we love this place.

All I can say is… why didn’t we start here sooner. We have had our son in various Guitar lesson programs in the PDX area over the last 3 years and by far, SOR is the best experience and training. Not only has his instructor corrected his Guitar technique he learned previously, he is also challenged with songs to master containing new techniques over a stretch of Genres. Not only are the independent lessons to notch, but the Jam Sessions are more than valuable for learning to play in a band — how much practice it takes to master songs, matching skill sets to the right song, etc. I echo that it’s worth the cost and the bonus that«Recitals» are actually concerts and give the kids the best foot forward in what it takes to get to perform. Looking forward to the performance this Saturday where my son plays songs from The Strokes!

My 15 year old Daughter started her lessons and the Rock 101 sessions about a month ago. It has truly been life changing for her. The environment is full of positive energy. The staff is fun, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. It’s been amazing to see how much her self confidence has grown in such a short period of time. I’m very happy we made the choice of joining the School of Rock.

I signed my 11 year old daughter up for a vocal camp during spring break of the 2011 – 2012 school year. It was a very positive experience for her and for me as a parent. The talent and teaching approach from the instructors is top notch. It was well worth the money. Actually, for what we received, I can’t believe how inexpensive it was. There is a big production at the end of the camp that clearly took hours to organize. We will be participating in another camp this summer.

I have two kids who have participated at Portland School of Rock over the years, and one still participates throughout the year. It’s a great confidence builder, as well as a fabulous place to learn music while have a significant amount of fun. The instructors have a knack for getting the most out of these kids, and many of the kids really raise their level of musicality. And the best of all — instead of sitting through a boring piano or clarinet recital, the shows are performed at area music venues, and you can drink a beer or cocktail and enjoy great music.
