I just walked in with 2 friends to get a quick drink before our next event. I walked up to the bar and was in the middle of asking if I could get a drink at the bar or at the table and he interrupted me and said wait! and wouldn’t make eye contact with me so we left. He was incredibly rude. The bar wasn’t even busy(now I know why) and there was no excuse for his behavior. Even if I don’t have a dick.

Scandals, I wanna love you. I really do. But it’s time this old gal got a facelift. This is literally the last gay bar in PDX that isn’t a migraine inducing dance nightmare(CC Slaughters), a smoke-filled toilet(Eagle), an ancient relic(Embers), or a front for gold digging go-go boys(Stag, Silverado). This is where many older gay men in PDX flocked to now that Starkey’s is history. Please give them a comfortable space to enjoy the cocktails they guzzle by the gallon. The space could be so cute with a few renovations(new flooring, paint, light fixtures, matching tables and chairs, etc…) How about a stage area for the karaōke and maybe some live performers? And please, please, please: Put a door on the toilet stall in the bathroom. Walking in on the girl squatting there the other night was not a pleasant experience for either of us.

I went in to check the place out. I have some gay friends who go there so what the Hell may as well go to my first ‘gay’ bar. No one bit me, everyone was nice, the beer was cold and relatively inexpensive… good place to hang out. Hey I can’t get in trouble with my girlfriend! I’d give it 5 stars of they had a better food menu but it should really get a 4.5.

Fun darts. Pool, cheap drinks. Theres nothing special about this place. If you’re in the middle of downtown and need a drink, this place isnt too bad. The bartenders were very attentive but it was a friday night

I was looking for a place to watch karaōke on a Tuesday night and I stumbled upon this place. The bar was nice, the staff was friendly and the drinks were stiff. I would definitely recommend this place.

If your not drama and don’t have no bull shit then come down to scandals because it is the shizznit. lol Scandals is a great local home bar where people are always down for a good conversations with a stranger. Its got some great themed nights and a good crowd of regulars. Tip: Call in an order from Roxys next door, they will deliver it to you. It is great dinner food.

If you’ve been in Portland longer than ten years, you might remember SE Stark street… Perhaps the Henry Weinhard Brewery before the Pearl was even a concept. The smell of hops and malt, like rich steel cut oatmeal, wafting along burnside. There were also 8 – 10 gay bars here, and at one point two bath houses, too. Well, times have changed, and the landowners could not resist the allure of top dollar for the encroaching Pearl. This is the very last gay bar holdout along our beloved Stark. It is a pub, neighborhood type feel. Owners changing hands a few times. They have a kitchen but will send you to the Roxy. Fair prices, kind of a gay middle aged Cheers. Great karaōke night, busy on weekends. Worth a stop if you pass by. Friendly to women.

Bar. Alcohol. Good venues for friends to catch up and wallpw about their boyfriend-boyfriend, girlfriend-girlfriend issues. Lol. All that aside. Its as clean as an iconic gay bar is. Easy to find, crazy portland parking, but defi otely a safe zone for you to be you and have uniterrupted conversation. Having that said, its not an overcrowded joint, but still pleasant. There is a pool table, one or two arcade, a group of slot machine that personally has put out. Stiff drinks, reasonable, friendly… what else do you need?! Come in for a drink or two!

What is this, Tijuana? This place used to have a decent, albeit gay ghetto vibe, now it’s just ghetto. Oddly enough, there were 25+ smokers parading around outside as if it were the Taj Mahal.

My first visit to a gay bar while in Portland, and I had a good time overall. The bartenders were good looking and the drinks were strong and cheap. It was karaōke night and the crowd was fun and friendly.

This place was Fun. We were there for the drag contest which was fun but I am in agreement that if you’re not a gay male you’re basically invisible. The people I actually came into contact with were pretty nice though and the drinks were strong. This place was great for people watching and I felt pretty safe there(which I guess as a straight female is not hard) but overall we enjoyed our time there.

We sat outside during a Portland heat wave as we had a dog with us. It was fun people watching and we ended up chatting with some fun people. Really nice place.

They have good beer on tap. Go with a group. I was there as a tourist so I didn’t know people. The locals are all kinda involved with each other, of course, I can’t really imagine any other situation being the case. The karaōke hostess will do work to fit you in if you’re a late night arrival on, I think that was Tuesday? So if you’re into the brand of public humiliation we call karaōke you will probably be accommodated! The actual room is set up more to sit than mingle. Like I said, you probably won’t have met anyone by closing time that you didn’t know when you walked in, so bring company with you or be prepared to spend your time with Jose(Cuervo) and Jim(Beam).

Heck yeah I’ll go five stars for this joint! I had me a great good time at Scandals on a Saturday night. The drinks were strong and cheap, just like the men. J/k Miss Thing. Seriously, plenty of good times to be had. I like that there are many levels for standing, perching, sitting, watching. The openness of the space was quite nice and they still manage to keep it dark and scandalous. The bartenders were«focused» but I can see how some might construe that as being rude. But whatever — drinks come fast when you are concentrating on the job instead of hitting on the patrons. At least they had some pep in their step. I very much enjoyed my time here and can’t wait to come back again!

Had some really great drinks here the other day. They gave us nice big pint glasses but did not over charge! Our drinks were made with care and the bartenders are very friendly and skilled. Honestly don’t waste your money on any other bars downtown.

Sweet bartenders, strong drinks, good vibes. Scandals is where my friends took me to have some drinks before dinner. It was a nice place to do so as the clientele seems to be in great spirits and it just really seemed like a good place to hang out at. I did not realize initially that this was a gay bar until my friend told me so as there is a good mix of different genders all having fun. This is a good place to go for drinks.

After living in Portland for three years, it’s worth noting one of the still-standing gay bars in the city. I adore the fact that Portland is the type of city where LGBT clientele can feel comfortable anywhere they go, but it is nice to have a venue that is primarily dedicated to our community. When I first came to the city, I thought«Oh, this is gay Cheers! Everyone comes and it’s laid back and happy.» That has since changed. This is my third visit in a row(over a course of around 3 months) where the atmosphere is so toxic and slightly trashy that I’ve quickly departed. Aside from the fact that the general space really needs an update(and I love dive bars, but Scandals is caught somewhere in limbo)… The staff has been generally rude. Today’s most recent visit was absolutely delightful. Upon entering, I ordered a margarita(85 degree day and I was told he made them nicely). I got an eye roll. (I’m very sorry to make you do your job) After enjoying those for a few moments, the bartender began a screaming match with a long-term client of the bar. Not one of those situations where the patron deserved to be kicked out, but an absolute embarrassing moment for the staff and owner of the bar in which the bartender yelled profusely, at the top of his lungs, for approximately 5 minutes. He slammed glasses and doors and I’m surprised he didn’t break anything or scare anyone away. I was embarrassed for him. Prior to that, my experience was with another bartender(who’s always incredibly unfriendly) yelling at more clientele. In the bartender’s defense, this very drunk group should have been made to leave the premises. However… still unprofessional behavior. I’m not sure why I’ve bothered giving them additional chances recently, but it’s likely I won’t give them another. Part of me is sad to say they may be the last leg standing of what(I hear) was once Portland’s gay district.

Dear Scandals. To put it succinctly: You suck. Let me count the ways and I’ll be brief about it. Essentially, the only customers you care about are gay men. I understand you are a «Gay Bar.» I’m not an idiot. I don’t have a problem with the fact that you market to a certain clientele. That does not bug me. What does bug me is that you can’t seem to fucking multi-task and that means that you welcome everybody and treat everybody with respect. You have heard the saying: treat others the way you want to be treated? Don’t make me use the«Duh» word here. It was New Year’s Eve, Scandals. You purposely made our Barfly group wait outside in the cold during the countdown. You didn’t have to play the asshole card, but you did. Do you think you made a good impression on folks that likely haven’t been to your bar before? I know, I know, you don’t care. I know that you don’t care about my opinion as a straight woman, or even as a fellow human being. New Year’s Eve is not the first time I have been to Scandals and have felt slighted. I am just here today to rant. Happy New Year Scandals. Do try and make 2014 the year that you treat all your customers with the same respect that you demand. Air Kiss Kiss 2014 — Review # 5
