I went to the Portland Food Cart Festival this weekend and Saucy’s was there! I was craving BBQ so I was stoked to finally try this place. Everything that others previously listed in their reviews raving about the amazingly cheap prices, unfortunately, seemed outdated. People talked about $ 2 – 3 for a rib or catfish sandwich, but now it’s $ 4 for any meat item like ONE rig, ONE pulled pork slider, etc(it includes a roll, but nothing else). The rib itself was actually quite good; nice flavor, tender, and average sized; not quite fall of the bone and ultra tender like I prefer, but it was definitely above average. Cole slaw or potato salad could be added for a buck, so I tried the slaw. It was ok, though I’m pretty sure it wasn’t house-made…and I saw them scooping the potato salad from a Reser’s bucket… so yeah I can forgive a BBQ place for going with pre-made sides, especially on a high volume day like at a food cart fest, but I will admit prices seemed a little high for how much food I got. I was hoping I could get a big sampler platter with a few different meats for maybe $ 10 – 12; instead I got 2 ribs and slaw for $ 10; a little pricey for my wallet book. If I’m close by to their original location I might stop by again to try a meal on a regular non-cart day and see if it’s any better.

Real tasty BBQ and nice ppl. There was so much sauce it was pretty messy, but isn’t that how good BBQ should be? Loved the slaw without all the mayo and just a touch of pineapple. Went great with the pulled pork and ribs.

While the prices have increased in the last few months(I didn’t see the $ 2 or $ 3 sandwiches anymore), it is still very reasonably priced here. I ordered the pulled pork slider with cole slaw($ 4). The pulled pork is mixed with a healthy dose of their house-made«Oregon» BBQ sauce. I can see how this cart has been open for about two years. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The sauce is a more muted BBQ sauce… it’s not as bold and sweet as a traditional KC sauce. But because the BBQ sauce is not overpowering, the essence of the pulled pork can shine through a lot more. The pork was also very good, shredded very nicely. I was a big fan of the slaw, to the point where I went back to the cart just to personally compliment the cart operator. The cabbage was crunchy and not drowned in a sea of creaminess(a good thing, in my opinion). He also tosses in some diced pineapple to give the slaw an extra dimension, setting him apart from the other BBQ carts. Being from Hawaii, I always appreciate wonderful uses of pineapple! Definitely recommended if you want some good BBQ!

Only a cretin would go to «Saucy’s» and then complain how everything was so… saucy, right? Actually, I didn’t find their offerings too saucy at all. For once in my life, had the foresight to order the ribs plain, with sauce in a cup on the side. Their St. Louis style ribs were ok. Whenever I start to think, «Gee, I wish I liked this more» and start w/the mental calisthenics on why they should still get a high star rating, the answer is inescapable. With or without the sauce(‘hot’ wasn’t nearly enough so, not by half), it was ok. They were completely out of catfish, and man oh man did that make me grumpy. I had been anxiously anticipating the fish all day… Say, is it legal to sell hooch out of the carts, does anyone know? Are there extra legal wranglings involved to get a liquor license? If not, it’d be one more excellent reason to call it «Saucy’s». If you’re familiar w/the history of the neighborhood you’re in, and the establishments there that have come and gone, you’d know you’d never be lacking for business!!!

i am not a fan of bbq sauce, but the tenderness of the ribs at saucy’s was worth having to «endure» the sauce. the aromatherapy, if you will, of the smoker draws you over to saucy’s food cart as opposed to all the other ones in the lot.(way to take advantage of olfactory marketing) we also tried the fried catfish, which was pretty good… except the skin of the catfish was left on, which made it fishier than i would have liked. it was nice that it was breaded in cornbread though, definitely made me feel less guilty about it being deep fried. REALLY friendly and hospitable owner though! he threw in free drinks and checked on us a couple of times while we were enjoying his tasty creations.

Ribs are delicious. I have only had ribs and hot links. Both are delicious. Ask which sides are homemade– and they are always good. coleslaw is odd, but delicious. Rib sandwhich is pretty much ribs with a biscuit… Simple. Tasty. Fall off the bone ribs. Sauce is delicious. Cheap. Soul food at it’s best. The guy who runs the place rocks. & really knows his BBQ. Cons: weird hours sometimes. But hey– he runs it almost alone.

This place has been here for a while, 2nd cart in this location. I finally came… HOLYSHIT there are like 10 carts here now! I ordered the spicy link sandwich and fries. 5 bucks. Sauce was awesome! Pretty spicy, and it just kept building and building. The sausage reminded me of a beanie weenie sitting in BBQ sauce for hours. The fries were home cut, served up piping hot, pretty soggy and peppery as hell. Man they were good, I can handle a non crisp fry if it tastes this good. Friend got the rib sandwich. 3 bucks, but they leave the bones in… not in a sandwich guys! There is a bathroom and atm at this cart pod.

Saucy’s has opened up on the newly un-blighted corner of Killingsworth and Greeley. Hallelujah to that! This place is simple and cheap and good. For a mere $ 3 I got an awesome, tender beef rib thrown twixt two halves of a generic bun. The bun is irrelevant as it is there merely to soak up the sauce, and what a sauce it is. Full of flavor, but not too sweet or too vinegary(I’m looking at you, Russell Street. You’re still good, but come on…). Some sauces seem like all you did was take a spoonful of sauce that may or may not have had some meat in it. This sauce balances perfectly, asserting its rightful place in the palate whilst avoiding overpowering the taste of the tender meat, which fell right off the bone. I didn’t even need the fork and knife to eat it. And when I finished there were only two pieces that demanded immediate flossing in my teeth, as opposed to lesser BBQ ribs that leave you feeling like you just bit into a stewed porcupine. For $ 25 you can pre-order a rack of ribs as well. I’ll go back soon to try the fish sandwich. Way to go, Saucy’s!
