Portland Futsal

It’s Futsal. Are you expecting red carpets and silk covered bleachers?
It’s a warehouse… It’s drafty, and sometimes damn cold. They have a hot beverage bar… Either $ 1 or $ 1.50 depending on who is at the counter, either way it’s a good deal.
The turf is in fairly good shape, the refs mostly congenial. The fencing and netting around the areas of play are kept in good shape… Have yet to see a ball go through to the spectators.
There is a bit of a play area upstairs. Foosball, meeting room with an entire wall in chalkboard paint with a diagram of the pitch for planning and team discussions.

The community here is unbeatable. When I moved here, I joined a league first thing and felt welcomed in like family. Three years later and everyone is just as friendly, supportive, and motivated. I suppose when you compare this establishment to others, it’s analogous to ‘small mom and pop restaurant with fantastic home cooking and a loving community presence’ vs ‘some gaudy new place with thirty locations and tasteless lasagna’. Take your pick — I know what I’m choosing…
This aspect alone is worth a five star review, because without camaraderie ya got nothin! (Especially true with a sport like soccer)

I’ve been playing here ever since I moved to Portland and can’t imagine playing anywhere else, which isn’t to say I wouldn’t play anywhere else. cough. Rose City Futsal. After two years of playing with the same team and on the same night, you see the same people with their same antics and get to know them. Honestly, it’s as much fun as one can possibly have while sweating your balls off. Then after all that hustle, you head to the Brooklyn Park Pub and see the same folks again except with beers in hand and laughing about the stupid goals you let in.

A bit expensive for what you get, but still worth it if you’ve got friends and fun. There are lots of players who should be in leagues that better suit their skill level — this is something that needs to be better regulated. Further, the scheduling is utter madness. Try 10:40pm on a Tuesday. That’ll wake you up. Oh and ruin your morning.

I’m updating my previous review. I’m giving it less stars only because it just seems as if this place is falling into disrepair. One of the fields got new turf, it’s pretty nice. The other field has huge gashes in it which have been glued together, two of which are in the goalie box. As a goalie this presents a problem when diving for a ball. Those rough glue spots can make for some nasty cuts on open skin.
Also, there has been at «Out of order» sign up in the men’s restroom for some months now.
The music! What’s with the music? It’s the same six or seven songs on repeat for the last 6 seasons I’ve played there! Seriously?! You can’t play some internet radio like Songza or something? A new play list? Anything?
I don’t think the leagues are monitored as well as they could be. I understand we as a team lose a lot of the games we play but there are times we play where it’s almost an even game and there are times we play where I think we are playing teams that are two or three levels above us because we just get destroyed. Destroyed like 20 some odd goals AFTER the mercy rule.
One more thing, it’s really expensive to play here for it to be in such bad shape and not offer anything else. What is all that money going to if it’s not going to upkeep? We probably won’t play here again next season as there are now other options in the Portland area.
I guess I am going for the amenities after all, I want to be comfortable before, during, and after a game.

Meh, I’m mixed. Futsal is great, and it’s a totally different experience than playing at other indoor venues in town. I think this facility has probably done a lot for the Portland soccer community’s ball handling skills.
That being said, I’ve had good coed games here, but ended up totally frustrated every time I’ve played in the women’s leagues. The refs seem to think that all women are delicate little flowers that can’t/shouldn’t play a physical game. You can barely go 30 seconds without the ref blowing the whistle and telling the players to take it easy. *eyeroll* Just let us play the game already!
For women’s only games, I give it 2 stars. Coed games earn 4 stars. So I’m giving it 3 overall.

Longtime soccer player (indoor and outdoor) I’m really glad I gave futsal a chance! Its a ton of fun, this facility is really nice, and the referees are very personable and professional.

This is a great facility for playing year round futsal. The place is kept clean and brightly lit, and the ref’s actually do a great job (unlike everywhere else in pdx where they hardly move off the mid-​line). My only complaint is that the turf is laid right on the concrete and it hurts my knees, ahh im turning into an old woman!

While it’s pretty much the only place to play organized futsal in Portland, it’s also a fun place to play. Built in an old paint factory (or something similar), there are two full sized courts and a smaller kids size/​practice court.
If you haven’t played futsal before, it’s similar to indoor soccer, but without aid of walls, a smaller court and smaller not very bouncy ball. The emphasis is on foot skills.
They have quite a number of adult leagues, which mostly fall into either the male or co-​ed variety, as well as some offerings for youth players and pick-​up games. Leagues usually last about 8 weeks.
Bonus: Brooklyn Park Pub is at the other end of the street.
