Henry Pittock used to live here. No not in this building but this block. He was publisher of the Oregonian, and The Daily Telegraph, he owned timberlands and paper mills… He wanted a big house on a hill! So he built Pittock Mansion and moved there in 1909. I am reviewing it mainly because I love the history, I recomend checking it out. A teaser of what there is: In 1913 Doyle, Patterson & Beach, the prolific A. E. Doyle’s firm announced they had won a $ 700,000 contract to build the new building and would start immediately.(check out this link it is the oregonians front page with the article from 1913). The result is the eight story building you see today, Bigger then the announcement said was planed. Today it is a Telecom«Hub» and home to the Oregon Symphony, The City Club and more. it is a great building. I like its look and I like shoping in the retail areas. In 1987 it was listed on the National Record of Historic Buildings.
