They make one of the best and most affordable Phở in Portland. The place has a pretty big capacity, so there’s virtually no wait time. The staff is very efficient too.

Just moved to Portland from Atlanta so this was the first and only place I’ve tried phở here in Oregon. In Atlanta all of the phở restaurants serve a shrimp phở but this joint only has beef, which I was a little sad about. Nonetheless, the food was tasty and the interior décor was visually appealing compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been to! Good enough because it’s super close to where I live I guess.

Love the food, but a bit pricey I would recommend to newbeys. Love having tea and talking to friends

Was my first time here yesterday(after many years since they have remodeled), and it was AWFUL. If you want some good REAL Vietnamese food. Go anywhere but here. Seriously. My group, we were the only Vietnamese people in there. Let alone, ASIAN. Everyone else was non-Asian. Nothing racist, but I mean, considering where this restaurant is located, there should be Asians in here. That’s a red flag when there isn’t any. Literally every other Vietnamese restaurant nearby(Phở Kim for example), there’s always many, many groups of Asian people. I thought things were going to go smoothly, since my group(consisting of 3 people) were seated so quickly. Practically as we had stepped into the restaurant. We were given enough time to look over our menu and decide what to choose. Once our server had finished taking our order, we waited on the food. We waited for a very long time. The time spending waiting should be 5 – 10 minutes max. That’s how it’s been at the many other Vietnamese restaurants. I had to wait for 20 minutes! ALMOST half an hour just waiting on three bowls of phở. Because I had so much time while waiting for my food, I was observing the restaurant. The staff was walking around so slowly and just really not in a happy mood. One staff member caught my attention. Something about him, made me not like him. And my gut is always right. So this guy comes and gives us this laminated paper with a number on it. I guess it is to represent the number table we were sitting. Which I find ridiculous. Why not just tape the numbers on the wall? Are they afraid that maybe in the future they’ll have to remove it, and fear it’ll make the restaurant look bad? You’ve already pulled cords along the wall from the TV, so the place looks bad already. ANYWAYS, this guy just comes up to our table and tosses the laminated paper into our table and walks away. Could at least explain why you put the ridiculous laminated paper on our table? It’s not like everyone that attends to this Phở Hung is a returning costumer. Soon we received our food. A guy from the back brought our food out. He had a tray to carry all three bowls of phở. Before he placed the tray down, I saw the laminated paper. As he gives us our food, lifts up the tray, and leaves, it’s gone. It had gotten stuck underneath the tray because of how dirty and wet the trays were. I tried to get his attention but he quickly walked away, and I, thinking it wouldn’t mean much, just let go of it and started to eat my food. The Chicken Phở soup was so so salty. I drank both 2(very small cups btw) cups of water so quickly. Besides saltiness, others that were with me had said«Too plain», «nothing unique or good about this dish», «the smell seems off, something is missing»!etc. Flavors could of been better. Nothing tastes right. Unimpressed. Couldn’t even finish even half of my bowl of phở. Then, it was time to pay the meal. I stayed behind with the person I was sitting with while the other goes up to the cash register to pay. The lady at the cash register started talking so loudly, asking«Where’s the paper?» In English. We are all Vietnamese, but she decided to have a rude tone, and speak English to us. So the person paying tried to explain to them what had happen. While all of that was happening, I and another person were still at the table. Suddenly(remember the guy I had told you about earlier? That I knew I wouldn’t like?) the guy comes up the our table. Doesn’t ask us any questions whatsoever and just looks in between our bowls of food, touched our newspapers, and in the seats to see if it was laying around there. 5 minutes pass and the same thing is still happening. The same guy again had the nerve to come back to our table and this time not only did he check the newspaper again, he actually OPENED and flipped through EVERY page to see if it was in there. By then, many staff members were looking and then questioning us, and were ACCUSING us for stealing a freaking laminated piece of paper. I was getting so angry with the guy(s) that I started to talk very loudly(which is out of my nature to do so, but man I was furious) and asking them what’s so important about a piece of paper. Even the napkin box has the table number, and our order was written down, so there’s no need for that laminated paper. I asked him questions in Vietnamese(since I am Vietnamese) but I swear every freaking staff member here responds in English. I guess they spoke rudely in English to us so that the costumers could listen in on the conversation. I was so fed up. I guess the lady gave in and finally we could pay. As we walked out the door the lady says«Excuse me! Thank you!» In a very rude tone and was unnecessary to do so in a loud voice. I will NEVER come back to this location. Horrible staff, horrible food, AND horrible service. But I will say this, I went to Phở Hung on Powell a few months ago, and been there many times ever since. Much better service, food, AND staff there.

Fast service, amazing food. This is my happy place and my go to on the weekend with my daughter. I love their Phở Ga with extra lime, veggie spring rolls with peanut sauce(not fish sauce) and a Taro shake with boba. Love that it’s family friendly :). I go there weekly when I can.

Delicious for the price. Good service, quick, and chill. I had the salad rolls, steak phở, and iced coffee. They have a ‘small’ bar seating area where I sat but there are plenty of tables. Diverse crowd — family friendly. A nice chill, good ‘neighborhood’ Vietnamese place. Not the best I’ve ever eaten, but I’ll be back.

What I want from a phở place: –Free tea –Condiments on the table –Tai still a bit pink Phở Hung checks off all three, and provides a better atmosphere than its sister down Powell. The egg rolls are my favorite in town. Service is fast without seeming rushed. Phở is tasty, but that’s all I ever get so I can’t comment on the rest of the menu.

I like it! I really like it. I got the beef stew with 2 perfectly toasted crusty on the outside, fluffy soft on the inside French rolls. These are the same rolls used for banh mi so there was enough bread to soak up every bit of stew sauce. The beef itself was tender and had a good chew, there was like 2 pieces of carrot and 1 piece of potato; good if you’re looking for a meat and bread dinner! My hubs got bun bo hue. He says it’s on par with Bun Bo Hue Restaurant — meaning Phở Hung is in the top 2 for great PDX bun bo hue. However, there’s no pig knuckle and very little pig blood chunks. My friends ordered a veggie phở, regular beef phở and a the bun salad bowl. They seemed happy with their food. The restaurant is nice and it’s clean. Usually that’s not a great sign for the quality of the food but in this case, I’ve been very happy with it! The bathrooms are impressively clean and brightly lit… or I have impressively LOW standards(did not see one pair of tongs tethered to the toilet). There are SAUCEPLATES. This is like the 2nd or 3rd place in Portland Metro that I’ve seen sauce plates available. They’re located at the front counter, along with forks, scissors and straws. The space is big and can comfortably seat large parties. They have mostly 2 person tables and were able to push several of them together for my party of 5. There are some 4+ person tables and a maybe a couple large round tables to seat big groups. Point is, this place is very familiar seating groups of 4+. Turn over is fast and there’s lots of space so I wouldn’t expect a big wait time if any. I went on a Saturday evening and the place was ¾th full. Phở fast? Fast to me is ordering right after I sit down and receiving phở the moment the server walks away. Not so much anywhere around here. The wait is slightly faster than the usual sit down restaurant and the food arrives at the table when it’s ready; meaning some of us got our food earlier than others. Had we not exercised self restraint, we would have finished like half our food before the others received theirs. I like it. Restaurant is clean. Comfortably seats groups. Less«adventurous» meats than other places. Having sauce plates a big plus!

3Feb16 @ 11:30am Fair number of people for 11:30 am. Bun Bo Hue and Phở Bo Vien. Not what we expected. Lots of mystery meat. Not much taste and the broth wasn’t tasty either. Ate a few bites but couldn’t eat much of it. Friendly atmosphere. Would not return and would not recommend.

Been my families favorite phở place of the last few years. The broth is consistently flavorful, and they are fast. They go a couple of times a week for lunch. Even if there is a wait, it’s pretty fast moving. Another reason we go here is because of the large parking lot– and it’s cleaner than the other phở places in SE.

It had been a year, or maybe two, since I last visited this Phở Hung and I remembered why during my recent outing. The smell of phở, as I walked in the door, overwhelmed my senses and my mouth began to water while my stomach suddenly voiced its hunger. I ordered flank steak and brisket phở and waited only a few, short minutes before it was set in front of me. The heat radiated from the small bowl and warmed my face as I quietly slurped away but I was soon underwhelmed by the mild broth flavors that took over my palate. There was more fat on the brisket than brisket, and my small order was taken literally when it came to the amount of, or the lack of, vermicelli noodles sitting at the bottom. At least the flank steak was good enough for me to not dislike the meal completely. The service was fast but I don’t think the orders are passed on to the kitchen chronologically. I placed my order after a few patrons placed theirs yet I received my meal first. Good for me but not when multiple set of eyes are glaring in my direction as I start adding bean sprouts, lime, Sriracha to my phở. Maybe it’s because I was dining solo? Here’s what I recommend you do. Phở-go this location and head straight to the Phở Hung on Powell. It may not be as clean or friendly of an establishment but you’re there for phở and their phở is un-phở-gettable.

Bleh, first bite of my phở and I could instantly tell it wasn’t good. It was basic phở too… so what gives? Maybe I’ve been spoiled by legit Vietnamese food in CA? Still, I was so hungry, I only ate until I was content because it was definitely not good. I really couldn’t pin point what about it that wasn’t right, but something in the flavoring. My stomach didn’t feel very well the rest of the night. Not coming back here again.

Came here for lunch on Christmas Day, one of few places that remain open here during Christmas holiday. We ordered bun bo hue, banh xeo and phở. For me, I think their bun bo Hue is too mild and I don’t taste enough kick in their broth. Another missing ingredient is pork hock. Banh xeo is huge for its size but it doesn’t taste like any of banh xeo I’ve had in Vietnam. I also think the skin is too thick while it is crispy alright. The place is similar to many other mediocre Vietnamese joints I had in downtown Toronto, it doesn’t taste bad but I wouldn’t call it memorable experience. Service is typical of any other Vietnamese joints.

Phở Hung is hands down my favourite phở place in Portland. Even though it’s a fairly large establishment the ambiance is one of a small mom and pop joint. The service is impeccable, the staff is always friendly, and the veggies are always incredibly fresh. If you’re in Portland and have a hankering for authentic Phở this is definitely the place to go.

So here’s my analogy of the Vietnamese places dotting 82nd and the areas surrounding the newly formed Jade District. To me they are like going to Little Italy in New York City. You know that any Italian restaurant you go into, you will get a great meal. Well, the same goes with all the phở restaurants. Anyone you go into, you’ll leave with a happy and full belly. Like most of the other places Phở Hung’s pricing of phở is roughly the same. A small here is $ 8, which is pretty much the norm and you get a rather large bowl, plus tea and all the veggies you can cram into your bowl of goodness. Yes, the broth is the most important part, and Phở Hung has a good simple broth. This one was better than most because of a nice and clean broth. This one was also good because there was a lot of meat and it went all the way till the end of the bowl. I always like that. The rest of the menu is pretty standard with rice dishes and vermicelli bowls and also reasonably priced. It’s a good place for a nice bowl of hot, especially if you’re a bit under the weather(or if it’s freakin’ cold out) Enjoy.

This place wasn’t anything close to terrible, but it definitely wasn’t the best phở I’ve had. There’s so many other phở places to chose from nearby and this one doesn’t stand out a bit. Will it fill you up? yes. And there’s complimentary hot green tea which is nice. The food was brought out quickly after we put in our order and it wasn’t expensive. Will I be back? that’s debatable, but if you’re low on cash and craving phở this will do the trick.

The phở is satisfying, broth is flavorful but leaves you extremely thirsty because of MSG I’m guessing, and the free tea is nice. Not sure I will return again because there are plenty of other phở restaurants on 82nd. Nothing seemed too unique except they do have quite a large selection of fun drinks to order. This place on a Saturday afternoon was a nightmare for service. Waited 10 minutes to be seated, another 10 minutes for the server, and no one came by our table once during the meal to check on us. They are understaffed! Reading other reviews, it seems like they are frequently packed so if you’ve got a lot on your schedule, this is not a fast in and out restaurant. Restaurant has a lot of tables packed in tightly and dim lighting. Cleanliness seemed alright, but let’s just say I waited to go elsewhere to use the restroom because I didn’t expect it to be too clean based on the attentiveness they pay customers.

Located on SE82nd and Powell, between some of the more sketchier motels in the city. This is a delicious place for phở. It must be the time of the day that I go because sunlight spills into the place and its lit with a golden glow. There are TVs available if your companion is not entertaining enough. It has its own parking lot. The service is fine and as with most phở places, the phở comes out first. Checking out tends to take a little longer because there’s one person who does it and every time I’ve been here, she’s no where to be found. It’s a tad(ok, more than a tad. I am that impatient). The waiters are pleasant when you arrive but once you order, that’s pretty much all the contact there is aside from your food and beverages being delivered to you. I do have to give kudos for keeping up on refilling the water. All in all, it’s a decent place for phở.
