Good coffee, great location –right next to the Bagdad Theater, friendly employees.

Great service here. Lots of street parking nearby. The only downside is there aren’t that many seats inside with outlets nearby, especially the tables by the front window facing Hawthorne

This location is one of the better Peet’s. The baristas are always very, very friendly and more than willing to answer any questions about the menu or drinks.

Very nice staff, coffee excellent! Four instead of five stars because if you sit outside, there is either bums taking over tables or a lot of pot smoking going on. Indoors is very clean, trendy and fun. They have the best espresso in town.

The friendliest staff! This location is right across from a Starbucks but is hands down 100X better. They are very attentive to their costumers especially if they slip up on an order but I feel for them because I always order complex drinks. They have outdoor and indoor seating! So you can bring your pooch along and not have to abandon them on the sidewalk. There is nice AC!!! This next factor is almost the most important their bathroom and business is really clean.

Nicest Peet’s folks in Portland. Super-mellow shop, and a great place to people watch, too. I tried the Mayan Mocha today(made with soy milk and regular whipped cream) and it got me HIGH. Yeehaw!

I love Peets coffee, and the baristas here are all EXCELLENT, good at their job, quick, and very friendly. The only thing about this particular location that keeps me from rating it 5 stars is that i have been in several times, and twice it has smelled SO strongly of cat pee it ruined my appetite and thirst!!! I asked the baristas about it, they said the stench is not anything to do with their equipment or even anything on their floor, as the whole thing has been ripped apart and deep cleaned many times in order to remove the odor. Apparently they think it is the upstairs neighbor, that perhaps cat pee or some ammonia cleaning product has seeped into the sub floor. According to them it smells way worse on some days than others. I feel really bad for them having to deal with that. Unfortunately, it makes it so that i don’t ever really want to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee there, not knowing if it is going to stink on that particular day or not, so i only head over there for to go coffee now.

I stopped here today to meet someone briefly. I had an iced coffee, which I don’t usually get, but I liked it better than Starbucks. It was just ice and coffee… you know iced coffee how I used to know it. Simple. I used to live to blocks over and came here all of the time. Their Mocha-java is my fav, though I do tend to get that now from Whole Foods. Their vegan scone is amazingly good. Overall they have much better pastries/breakfast foods than Starbucks. All I have near me is Starbucks though, so there it is. :)

As a SF bay area gal who is new to Portland I’m a little sad that there are only four Peet’s in Portland whereas there are a gazillion in CA. But lest I be that ugly Californian reviewing all the things that are different about CA and OR, suffice to say that having a Peet’s around makes me feel a little more at home in my new town. This location also has some decent seating so that’s a huge plus in the study realm. Lastly, Hawthorne is a very cute, walkable neighborhood. My new favorite Peet’s — yippee!!!

Of all the chain coffee stores, this place has the best tasting coffee. I would recommend an iced sugar free vanilla latte. It’s quite lovely.

Good upscaley(I know, not a word, but you get the drift) feeling coffee shop in Hawthorne serving up solid lattes.

I like this when I need the more upscale(compared to the Starbucks across the street, lol) atmosphere, and it’s a place where classical music is the majority of that playing on the radio. The service is generally friendly. Their cappucinos are good, however the best things on their menu that sets them apart from the Starbucks across from them are the Freddos. So if you like classical music, head here if you’re in Portland.

I keep coming back thinking they will make my coffee right one of these days, but they don’t. Peet’s is my absolute favourite coffee chain and the Hawthorne store ruins my loyalty to Peet’s. The employee’s are nice, but they burn the milk to excruciating temperatures. It’s been over an hour and the milk in my latte is still too hot to drink. Not to mention that burnt milk tastes awful. I’ve tried changing the type of milk I order… Still over steamed and burnt. One more thing, If you like the taste of a sickeningly sweet latte this is the spot to go. They consistently over pump syrup into every latte. If you insist on going there for burnt milk, atleast ask for half the syrup. Glad Starbucks is located across the street.

My Son and I were wandering around this stretch of SE Hawthorne earlier in the week. It was cold and windy and the added hustle and bustle was«creeping him out». I suggested and he readily accepted my suggestion that we find an inside table at Peet’s, order some coffee, and hang out for awhile. Yes I know that there are independent coffee shops within walking distance, but as you might know, adolescent boys sometimes have ZERO patience and demand immediate gratification. Hence, I took what was in plain sight and went with the flow. And he still likes to be seen in public with me! Even though the Peet’s Chain has grown and coffee snobbery has kept pace in terms of single drip(and other) alternatives, I still enjoy stopping in. It’s a familiar comfort in a sometimes weird Portlandia sea, and they still do fresh black coffee really well. Service was fast and friendly, a table was available, people watching was fun, and it was great to spend some quality time with the Kid.

My go-to tea stop after a solid bike ride through SEPDX. The Peet’s on 37th and Hawthorne is where it’s at. So why go here versus an independent shop? Hawthorne and 37th has the best people watching around. Just today, I spotted Jesus walking with a stocking-clad Mary while a often-featured street musician sat on the sidewalk in the sun banging on his keyboard. «I’m just like you, I’m just like yooooou.» I liken it to a coarse Joe Cocker. You might see a guitarist singing at the top of their voice on a beaten old guitar. Or harried pedestrians dodging Green Peace solicitors. Or various fixed gears streaming by. Or shoppers hauling huge bags of clothes to Buffalo Exchange. Or a woman in a Mercedes almost backing over your friend’s very nice, custom-made steel frame bike. Or there are the skateboarders practicing ollies and pissing off traffic. Definitely better at the latter. Oh yeah, and they have consistently cheery service and drinks too, which I suppose are good, though all I ever get is the rooibis tea. Who has time for new drinks when there is so much to see outside?! A solid four stars for Peet’s on Hawthorne. Pull up a chair outside and check out the scene.

Though Starbucks was closer, I trekked ALLTHEWAY across the street to Peet’s because I despise starbucks and chain coffee houses. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to see that it wasn’t very different from starbucks at all. Though I enjoyed my pumpkin latte, it just seemed to scream«franchise» to me — and at that point, I had no idea it was one. It’s not bad coffee, the place as a whole just failed to impress me.

I was beside myself excited when Peet’s first opened on Hawthorne. Never again would I have to risk life, limb, and flippin’ expensive photo red light ticket at 39th& Sandy traveling uptown to the Peet’s on Broadway. I’m a San Francisco transplant, and Peet’s was such a part of my morning routine when I worked downtown. They became part of an afternoon routine as well. They taught me to appreciate strong coffee. Peet’s was my training ground for the wonder and excitement that is independent coffee in Portland. Yeah, I’ve moved on to more local brew, but every now and again, I love to stop in here and reminisce about developing my coffee habit. The vibe is laid back Hawthorne. Dark wood tables, delicious teas for the smelling and buying, ever changing travel mugs and other various vessels to meet all your coffee and mug-like needs. Thanks, Peet.

Gawl dang, coffee drinks from Peet’s are completely jittering with caffeine. Just where do they get their beans? I had a large(they don’t do tall, grande and venti at Peet’s) latte and thought I was going to go into cardiac arrest an hour later. And I didn’t even get an extra shot! But anyway, iced latte had a nice creamy and frothy texture; different than the lattes from those guys right across the street. And without that burnt overroasted flavor too.
