I can’t recommend Papillion Bodywork enough! I was brand new to Thai massage when I made my first appointment five months ago, and I’ve come back every month since for massages from Lara.
Lara is incredibly kind and compassionate. Her calm and caring spirit put me right at ease. The cozy and cute space at her home helped too.
She is so knowledgeable and I can tell she is really listening to my body during a massage. The massages can be so intense in the best way — sometimes I want to yell or laugh or cry — but she always knows when to remind me to just breathe through it. It’s SO relaxing… this ritual has truly improved my quality of life.
Lara also offers a sliding scale for her massages in order to make them as accessible as possible. I love Papillion! Worth the money for sure!

I’ve been getting massage on a semi-​regular basis for well over ten years due to continual neck & back problems following a car accident. Until I met Lara over a year ago, I’ve typically gotten deep tissue massage. However, when I read an article about Thai Massage, I was intrigued and did some searching to see if i could find a therapist in Portland. Thankfully I found Lara. I’m hooked!!! While some people might think any massage is good, I actually get really annoyed & more stressed out when I walk away from paying for a mediocre massage. That has never happened with Lara. And the Thai massage combo of deep pressure & stretching, has been amazing!!!
Lara is an incredibly loving and compassionate person. Her studio is over the garage at her home, and it’s a very peaceful space that always relaxes me as soon as I enter. Lara continues to expand her knowledge and experience with yearly trips to Thailand for training. It’s always exciting when she returns from a trip with new things to share & incorporate into her practice. LIke the Ayurvedic Herbal Compresses she learned to make that add both aromatherapy and relaxing warmth to the massage; as well as a form of abdominal massage she’s beginning to learn.
Lara & Thai massage have really helped improve my mobility, and brings me longer lasting pain relief. If you’re new to Thai Massage, I’m not going to lie: the pressure can be intense in the moment!!! But I like a deep massage, and Lara will adjust the pressure to one’s tolerance level. For me, all the intensity is worth it, because afterwards I am like jello!!!
And that’s worth every penny!!!

I found this amazing gem of a human on Unilocal!Lara got me in the same day I called her and gave me, by far the best deep tissue massage I have ever had. I arrived with a headache feeling totally unmotivated and disconnected and left feeling rejuvenated, balanced and sooo relaxed. Often when I have asked for deep tissue from other therapists I usually just get a firmer massage but Lara has an incredible technique and style. She was very intuitive, found and fixed pain I’ve been holding for a while. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for an awesome massage. I can’t wait to go back!

I been going to Lara for deep tissue massage for a couple of years, but have now graduated to Thai. Wow! Lara is great at knowing the right level of pressure and stretching to make the session a success. Her home studio is really comfortable; there’s a picture of it on her website. The address is available when you book. I had massages from various folks over the past 15 years or so, but Lara is the best!
