New Seasons Market

The people who work here are great but the food is outrageously overpriced. Eating healthy, organic and local shouldn’t cost over $ 100/​week. New Seasons is a lie that we are all believing. The amount of people who frequent this very crowded, panic inducing store blows my mind.

This New Seasons is a comprehensive center for food. They have all kinds of packaged food, a bakery, samples and more. Some of their items are overpriced, some are not. There is an area in which to eat towards the back.
It has been awhile since I have been here. They do have plenty to chose from throughout the culinary subcategories. I did see lots and lots of samples. This does not have lots of non-​food items such as Fred Meyer, but that tends to be okay. I tried some of their small, discount cheese at around a dollar, but it was blue and parmesan. A donut I had was not impressive. The samples were usually impressive.
It doesn’t hurt to look.

WE LOVE NEW SEASONS!!! This is hands down one of the greatest companies I’ve ever experienced. Every time I tell someone about Portland, I give them examples of how nice people are here and how wonderful the businesses are. I always tell people about New Seasons.
The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and kind. The food is always fresh and delicious. It’s basically heaven on Earth.
Our non-​profit recently brought a group of volunteers to create gift cards for animal shelters in the common area, and the staff was so accommodating. Big shout out to Casey, Abdoul and Jeremy. You guys are the best!

always free samples … the little eating area is always loaded with all types of condiments including raw apple cider, olive oil and nutritional yeast. what more can you ask for … they claim to be friendly i only see top service :)

I love New Season, and I wish I could afford to shop here on a regular basis. I usually buy my meats, bread, natural health and other miscellaneous items or specialty items that I can’t get at TJ’s, Fred Meyer or Safeway. I love that they carry café yumm sauce, I usually have that stocked at home. The bottled chocolate milk is delicious. Their prices for meat are usually the same as any other grocery store, and I know where it comes from, and don’t have as much uncertainty. I love their NY steaks when they go on sale, or if I am in the mood to splurge a little. I love their olive bar, and when I am hankering for olives, I definitely grab a little container of green olives or a combination of all the olives. Their deli meats, especially the salami is excellent. I’ve had their cheese cake, and it was amazing. I made this blueberry sauce at home to top it off, and it was perfect. I’d say the majority of the time, every person I’ve encountered has been pretty friendly. I am here often, and the only thing I’d have to complain about is the parking. It’s a little unpredictable, as in you never know who is going to run you over, or back into you, or if it’s full. Which is another reason, why I should just ride my bike. They email you receipts now, which is another bonus:)

Now that I’m a vegan, it saddens me that there are hardly any vegan options at the hot bar.
Also the parking has gotten worse. I don’t know how that’s possible.

I used to go to New Season’s on Division at least once a week and order a hot sandwich. I can’t remember the last time they got my husband’s or my sandwich right. Either it’s missing the bacon, or veggies that are clearly written on the form you provide. I called and spoke to a manager and they told me they would work on it with their team. I didn’t return for three weeks because of the frustration and just needed a break. I tried them again tonight and this time they forgot three items. I should have known to look at it before I left but I usually take it to go and eat it at home. That’s when I found that my salmon roll up was just salmon, lettuce and a condiment. They forgot my avocado, cucumber, and cheese. I write exactly what I want on a piece of paper and expect to get what I order. This has happened so many times that I will no longer order a hot sandwich from them again. Too bad the Woodstock store didn’t make hot sandwich’s because they are all very friendly there.;)
On another note, the customer service has gone downhill. I went to the register tonight and the clerk didn’t look at me or greet me in any way. He just looked at the other employee and spoke to her. He seemed depressed or just plain miserable. I told him that his apron didn’t suit him because he wasn’t friendly at all. This is the second time I have been to his register and he treated me this way. I have no desire to return to this location again.

I used to shop here almost exclusively until I started paying attention to what items cost here versus Whole Foods. New Seasons is outrageously expensive in comparison (yes, I said it is more expensive than whole paycheck). For example, the brand of organic greek yogurt I buy is $ 8.99÷32 ounces at NS and $ 7.49 at WF, my brand of organic butter is $ 7.99÷4 sticks at NS and $ 6.99 at WF, vegan mayo $ 7.99÷32 ounces at NS and $ 6.99 at WF and parchment paper sandwich bags are $ 6.49 at NS and $ 5.99 at WF. These are only an example of 4 items and since almost everything at WF is cheaper for the exact same item, I have been saving $ 100 a month on groceries without changing what foods I am eating.
WF also has an automatic tare weight of 0.01 for produce and bulk items which would add up over time and they also print it on the receipt so you know it’s been done. I’ve had problems with NS and getting accurate tare weights entered. I’ve gotten attitude about what I’ve told them the tare weight is of a container or they have not entered the tare weight and I have had to return to get the tare weight of the glass jar refunded to me. I don’t buy bulk items very often here for those reasons.
New Seasons is no longer locally owned and there is no evidence from their website that they pay their employees a living wage which are reasons that would compel me to shop here more often. They do however donate 10% of their profits to charity but from what I understand WF donates 5% so NS does have an edge there.
I shop here for hard to find items a few times a month but most of my grocery dollars goes to WF these days.

It’s really a shame that the «friendliest» store in town has such unfriendly staff. Not all over the store, but in the deli area. There’s really a sense that they are put out by requests to make food. New Seasons in general has really gone downhill in customer friendliness save the NE Broadway store; that whole store rocks!!! Everyone seems so annoyed to be working here-​burnt out maybe. Management take notice. There’s lots you can do to inspire and lead.

Thank you to New Seasons Market for the items I needed at the quality I wanted. Their burgers are very organic and fresh, which I wasn’t used to but they were good anyway.
When they first opened their doors, my family was already planning on walking through your doors to check it out and to be your continued customers, we are holding that plan.

New seasons claims to be local but they are no longer locally owned. They are not a health food store when they offer a wide variety of products with artificial ingredients and their natural products are high priced. No core values and no standards. I had never even heard of this chain until I moved to Oregon. The times that I have been in there stores I have enjoyed their customer service.

I freaking love this place. Being on the road, it’s tough to ensure that I am still eating healthily and the hot bar here is some of the best around. Even better is that it is down the street from the office I am working at, so all the better.

This place is A+ awesome! We went in a few times while visiting from BC and were very impressed by the quality and range of products. Great beer selection and the mochas at the coffee shop are delicious!

Oh how I love you, New Seasons. Food is delicious and top quality. Service is friendly and efficient. The ready-​to-​eat options never fail me. I only wish they opened an hour earlier and closed an hour later. (And maybe that the prices were just a teensy bit lower.)

This is my neighborhood go-​to grocery store. It sure beats my old one: Whole Foods on E Burnside. The folks here are super pleasant, extremely helpful, and know their stuff. What do I mean? When I want some new cheese, because I’m hosting a get together, and need help pairing it with some wine… I can rely on there cheese dept. To follow thru! When I’m sick and in need of natural congestion relief that will get me thru a work day, the wellness dept. follows thru!
Give them a try!

I love this place for all the items they carry that other places do not. It’s not Nature’s or The Daily Grind but it’s better than spending your hard earned cash at Whole Foods. My main complaint here is the flower girl. She’s not a lady & thinks she’s a Diva. Goes by the name Prima Donna. She is reliably rude & I cringe everytime I have to deal with her. Unfortunately killing her with kindness didn’t work.
I’m a working class gal with no respect for management but this woman needs to be ratted out. Please get her the hell outta the flower aisle & into a back room where she doesn’t have to deal with customers.

I’ve had unpleasant experiences with the staff at this location several times recently. For a store that brags at being the «friendliest store in town» it isn’t. Some of the cashiers seem hostile and unpleasant.
Still, the organic produce and GMO free food is very good.

I used to go home via the Division bus after work. Which during rush hour usually comes ever 10 or so minutes. The bus stop is right next to the entrance. After work the last thing I want to do is wait for another bus, so I usually timed my shopping so that I don’t have much time to wait for the bus.
Twice I cut it way to close, with indecision on what to buy, trying to find something in the location that I’m not as familiar with. The cashier asked how I was doing and I told them the truth that I was trying to get to a bus that would be there in a minute. Both times the cashier was very considerate of that fact. To the point that I actually sent in a positive comment to New Seasons through the website.
After shopping at this location, never have I missed a bus that I hoped to get on. It probably helps that the bus stop is RIGHT in front of the store.
I know live on the west side of Portland, so I haven’t been in this one for a while. But the staff are awesome, only downside is the fact that this is a smaller location than others.

The only knocks I have on this New Seasons Market are parking and prices. The parking lot here is cramped, crowded, and chaotic. And if you’re not careful, you’ll spend your whole month’s paycheck in a single trip to the store.
Now that I have those criticisms out of the way, allow me to gush about how excellent this store is. The fresh produce is unparalleled and manages to be fresh and almost completely organic year-​round. Of all sections of the store, the fresh produce and bulk products are fairly affordable.
Customer service is top notch. I’ve found that employees here masterfully walk that fine line between being cheerful/​helpful and being annoyingly cheerful/​helpful. This can be a tricky store to navigate with some products being located in specialty aisles where you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find them. If you’re struggling, ask anyone — they’re very helpful.
Other than that, stop back regularly for a variety of samples and specials. While many of New Seasons’ products might be spendy at full price, if you’re a smart shopper you can stock up when things are on sale and wine up with higher quality food than you would get at Safeway or Fred Meyer at a competitive price. I’m a fan.

The best way I can describe New Seasons is that it’s a local version of Whole Foods that focuses (even more so than W.F.) on local, organic and fresh foods.
Overall, the prices are very good. There’s not a sea of discounts, but you won’t be disappointed paying $ 3 for delicious, whole milk from a local farm. They have a great selection of fresh and local bread, and not a bad wine selection for a grocery store.
One of their best features are their bulk items. Besides the usuals like dried nuts, you can also get all of their spices in bulk. Which means you can get a small bag of taco seasoning for like $ 0.39 to cover the soft tacos for dinner that night. Genius.
The coffee bar is also pretty solid. $ 3.25 nets you a 16 oz. iced latte, which is about $ 0.50 cheaper than most local coffee shops.
