try mvp volvo– you will be pleased. i have been coming here for a long time. this shop does a great job on repairs and car maintenance. when my first volvo was totaled, paul helped me feel relaxed and set me up with an even better car. this is a great business-​they do everything quickly and the prices are very reasonable. paul’s team is always welcoming and very helpful with any questions i have. i put total trust in them. its actually pretty fun when my volvo is being seen bceause of the neat area and close shops all around. they do quality work in a timely manner, always pleasant and efficient. this is the only place i will continue to bring my car. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHOP TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND OTHERS!

Reeeealy terrible in terms of communication.
I booked a slot via phone on a thursday to have my 1996 volvo’s electrical issue checked out and fixed by the next day. When I arrived, they had forgotten I was coming but said they would make time for me and give me an estimate before starting work. By 5pm friday, they haven’t even looked at my car and I was without it all weekend. By midday monday, they said they would look at it «soon» and by tuesday they finally called me to say «it’s done.» They charged me $ 400 without ever giving me the estimate. When politely asking why the cost, the mechanic said gruffly «for all the time I spent on the f***er!»
In the end, their work didn’t even fix my issue. After some research on the internet, I fixed it myself for a $ 50 part and 30 minutes of time. They obviously didn’t understand my issue and weren’t interested in talking to me about it.
What a waste of time, money, and frustration.

Wonderful support and help! Customer service is HUGE in my book and this company was fantastic in helping us make our decision in our new car purchase. Brought our volvo by before we made the final purchase and they reassured us the whole way through. grateful!

The service at MVP is top notch. Prices are more than reasonable. When I take my car in to be serviced, I am not talked down to or pressured to have work done that is not specified by Volvo (which has happened multiple times at the dealer).
At my last oil change, I had a bulb that needed to be replaced. It ended up being a special order. The bulb did not arrive before I needed to pick-​up my car (Friday afternoon). Paul, the owner, came to our house on Saturday morning with the bulb and installed it. A business owner taking time out of his weekend so that we didn’t have to drive back to the shop to get the bulb installed — seriously?
This is my first Unilocal review.

Bought a used Volvo for my daughter, and before giving it to her had to make sure it checked out well. It checked out well, and unlike many dealerships, I didn’t have to hear the line of «You better get this done, or else…». They were perfectly willing to have me walk out of there knowing the car was in good condition. Because we wanted to give our daughter the car in like-​new condition, we chose to have them do some things to it, and they did everything just as asked, and gave us a reasonable bill to have it done.
In my opinion, it would be foolish to take an out of warranty car to a volvo dealership for repair when they are just as good, and unlike many dealerships, you don’t feel they are taking you for a ride. Very practical, and I feel very honest.

Helpful repair shop, not something you hear often.

Was passing through Portland and having major engine trouble. MVP Inc. was the only Volvo mechanic in the city that was willing to make time for me. Saved me a huge amount of time and money. As a younger female I’ve had mechanics try to take advantage before, but MVP looked out for me and got me back on the road the very next day. Caring people with exceptional service and fair prices. Five stars all day long.

I brought my 2000 xc70 in because it had a minor oil leak that I thought was coming from the turbo return line.
After having my car on the rack for a while the mechanic took me under and we took a look at the leak. Turns out it was not coming from the turbo return but from somewhere else. Likely the seal on the angle gear.
Long story short: they provided me with information and did no unnecessary work.
I feel many shops would have unnecessarily changed out random gaskets and seals just to make the extra buck.

Without a doubt, if you have a Volvo, bring it here.
We (fairly reluctantly) bought a Volvo after our Honda was totaled. The car did well for a while, until the steering rack went out. We brought it here, and were shocked at the price. But we paid the $ 1200, because you need to steer, right?
After the initial repair, we had to have it replaced again, and it was done free of charge. Nearly a year later (and multiple bottles of steering fluid later), I went in for an oil change. They noticed that the steering rack was still effed up, and fixed it for free. They even re-​did the alignment after I neglected to go back and get it done. The tires were effed up, so they even rotated them for free to allow for better traction.
The entire staff is outrageously knowledgeable, and if I ever buy another Volvo (not likely), these guys will get ALL of my business.
I also thought I had an alternator issue after Les Schwab tested it. Les Schwab doesn’t do those types of repairs, so I brought it here. They ran a bunch of tests, but found it wasn’t the alternator. They diagnosed the problem, and realized it was a door switch that wouldn’t fully close. So a potential $ 700 repair turned into a $ 200 repair for a bad door handle switch. That’s the kind of repair shop you want.

This place is great! They let me fix up my new, old brick with parts from my old, old brick. I took a broken 87 240 in, towed a broken 91 240 in; and a few weeks later left with a kickass 91 240. Seats, brakes, tires, trim, etc… they made my 91 the best it could be. Thanks, MVP!

These guys are great… In total I have visited their shop a total of two times.
This winter was tough on my poor Volvo and I. For about 2 months, the extreme cold made it so my car wouldn’t start, leaving me stuck away from home. One day I experienced starting problems five times within a few short hours.
I had enough. Something needed to be done.
I called MVP about 2pm, and despite being so late in the day, they told me to come on by that evening and they would take a look at the car. Happy!
I arrive at the shop a couple of hours later, they pull the car into the garage and proceed to spend a good 30 – 40 minutes examining my car and running various tests. No problems could be found and all test come out normal. This was good news.
There was nothing else they could do at that point unless I could leave the car overnight. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible, and I agreed to try and find a time later on. They didn’t ask for payment for the work they did that evening.
I never did make it back to the shop.
After examining my car, I never had the problem again. The car proceeded to start every time. Was it something they did? Hard to say, but what I do know is that these guys went the extra distance to help me and despite having moved out of Oregon, and not likely to ever return, I could not end this chapter without telling my story and giving these guys credit.

So pleasantly surprised!
I brought my beloved 14 year old S40 here after working with my regular mechanic (dealer) for several months who was unable to fix a check engine light. In a nutshell, the dealer basically had given up and advised me to just keep getting regular oil changes and «wait it out». That raised a lot of red flags so I decided to check out MVP. Paul had my car for less than 2 hours and correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed it the same day! Turns out the dealer had not performed an expensive repair correctly six months earlier and the guys at MVP caught it by simply being thorough and using common sense!
Paul was such a pleasure to work with. Confident, low-​key, and he took the time to explain things really clearly, and checked in with me at several points during the day. He even showed me one of he parts that they had to replace! That doesn’t happen at the dealer. MVP approached the problem holistically instead of only hooking it up to the computer and blindly following the string of codes. They actually used common sense in addition to the data that the on-​board computer was spitting out. THAT’S the kind of people I want working on my car from now on.
I also thought it was pretty classy that Paul spoke very matter-​of-​factly about the (huge) mistake that was made by the dealer’s techs without bad-​mouthing them. He also happily gave me a ride to work after I dropped my car there.
Everyone else that passed through the office while I was visiting seemed really nice, professional and had a sense of humor.
It was so refreshing working with these guys! And it’s always rewarding to work with people who are really good at what they do… and make it look easy :-) !!!
I just found a great new repair shop! Wish I had sought them out years ago!

PS-​The shop is located in adorable Multnomah Village which is great for getting a coffee, a meal or window shopping if you choose to wait and is really convenient to Tri-​met bus service.

@ 210k + miles my Volvo 940 still runs like a champ thanks to these fellas. From pumps to tires MVP knows how to fix the wares and tears to my wagon with no returns. Each fix was completed with perfection and transparency. Make no mistake, the cutie at the front knows her stuff and could likely diagnose your problem over the phone. They tell me what’s wrong and even willing to show me what needs repaired, replaced or even no repair at all. They recently repaired my fuel pump just in time for a memorable vacation down to Bend with no complications. I’ll keep coming back when the time’s needed. Keep up the good work crew, I’ll treat you to beers next round.

Very pleased! First time here and excellent service! I had to get my car towed in — very apprehensive about getting «stuck» at a repair shop I’d never been to. They were still open at 5:30 when I arrived with my car, and Paul the owner was very pleasant. He looked under the hood, discussed what might be the issue, and said he’d call the next day. The next day Mike called, shared what was wrong, in detail, and was very clear on what the issues were. Picked up the car that night (even though they were a man short, they still got it done the same day) and am so pleased with it! She’s got a lot of miles and they treated her well :)
Will definitely return and would highly recommend!

I took my 2004 Volvo S80 T6 into MVP last week to repair a faulty windshield washer pump. Both my wife and I have used the dealer for service (she has a 2006 XC70 wagon), but the prices just seemed to be going through the roof, and I thought I’d give MVP a try since they’re closer to our home and I’d heard some good things about their service. As they were repairing the pump, they saw that the tires where about shot and the brakes were getting low; both things that had been on the recommended list for a while. While the extra cost was unplanned, I knew it had to be done eventually and gave the go-​ahead. Their price was a good 10 — 15% below what I’d been quoted previously.
As I was driving away after picking up the car later that day, I tested the windshield washer and noticed a couple of spots that weren’t going away. It looked like maybe some kind of clear adhesive, so I pulled over as soon as I could. What I found were some pits/​chips that I know were not there when I took the car in. I returned to the shop, and showed them. While befuddled on how it could have happened, they immediately and without hesitation offered to replace the windshield, no charge.
Now, this could have easily been «he said/​he said» situation where they chose not to replace the windshield. But, they did. This wasn’t a matter of «the customer’s always right;» it was a matter of doing the right thing. And for that, they’ve earned my family’s future Volvo repair business.

Can’t say enough about MVP Volvo! The entire team is awesome. I’m usually skeptical of autoshops from past experience but these gentlemen are consistently helpful, ready to explain the details & small print, and offer excellent prices & options. If nothing is wrong-​they tell you the truth ~ no hidden fees, and no pretense to drain you for cash. I can not imagine taking my car somewhere else for service. My only complaint. Stay open later guys… and offer lovely vanilla lattes to your satisfied customers. Other than that, happy camper here.

We’ve been using them for about 4 years, and we had an issue with our Volvo not starting, and called on a Thursday to see if we can bring it in on Friday. Was told no problem, and we dropped off the car the night before per their instructions. Called Friday late morning, was told to call back because the mechanic stepped out to run an errand, but would be back soon, and would call back. He never called back, and I had to call him in the afternoon, only to be told that they were «slammed,» and couldn’t get to our car until Monday.
Didn’t hear anything from them; I called on Monday afternoon, was told they replaced my battery, and changed my oil without permission. When i picked up the car, I complained, and they took off the price of the oil change. On Tuesday, my car wouldn’t start properly, so I called them, and they told me to drop off the car. They kept it until the next morning, to start it cold, and to run diagnostics again. Once again, I had to call to find out what was going on with my car because they didn’t call me. When I called them at 5PM, they said that nothing appeared to be wrong with the car, and that I should pick it up. Let’s just say there’s still issues.
The only reason why they’re getting a star is because they gave us a loaner car (which had zero gas). If you like no communication, having them work on your car without authorization, suffering lots of frustration, and have lots of time to kill, I recommend them.

My mom and I have both driven Volvos for years, and over that time, we’ve tried just about every Volvo mechanic in Portland. MVP is, hands down, the best of them all. The owner is honest and upfront, and the mechanics he employs are skilled and experienced. It’s rare to find a sincere mechanic in an industry that prefers to bend truths and upsell, but MVP is the real deal.

MVP Volvo did a pre-​purchase inspection for me on a used volvo wagon. Unfortunately the used car dealer was totally dishonest with me, and I had not seen the car yet because it was so far away. So I had no way of knowing that it was a piece of s&*%. However, the mechanic let me know what the real story was on the car, and fortunately I didn’t waste any more time on it. The mecahnic didn’t even need to perform the inspection to know that the car was worthless, and offered to not charge me. But I was so pleased with his service that I paid him for his travel time anyways. Is honesty too much to ask for? I guess when we’re talking about used cars it is. But MVP Volvo was my hero!
