The product is ok especially when it’s 90 degrees but the service at the NW23rd spot is terrible. Both the guy and the girl working this afternoon were clearly unhappy with their job. False smiles, rolling eyes and just plain arrogant. I could go on but I’m annoyed so it wouldn’t do any good! In my opinion this is probably why the Irvington location didn’t make it. The service was bad and slow there too. There are too many icecream/gelato/frozen yogurt locations in Portland to be bothered with this place.

The sorbets(kiwi and blackberry) and gelatos(toasted almond and cinnamon) we had here were decent, but it took the staff forever to help us, even though we were the only ones waiting for service and there were two of them behind the counter. When we walked in, they looked up at us and went back to what they were doing, not even a quick«We’ll be with you in a second.» With that attitude towards customer service I’m surprised they have such good reviews.

The gelato was piled high, which is something I am not accustomed to at most other places I have gone to. The raspberry was incredible and tasted like a frozen raspberry in my mouth. Delicious. Each flavor we had was tasty, but the raspberry took the cake.

Generous scoops, great location and space. I also like that their samples are big so my husband and I can both taste. I am sad the NW location closed but glad this one seems to be doing well. The gelato has a good consistency and they usually have straciatella which is my favorite.

Im sitting here checking in at all these places and just realized. Wow I really get around. Its amazing. anyway, on to the review. This too is a really good spot for Gelato. The ambiance on NW23rd is cool so go ahead and pick up some Gelato and take a stroll down 23rd. You’ll enjoy your Gelato and the walk.

The gelato here is good with several flavors to choose from. Wasn’t quite a fan of the coffee though. Perhaps it was just what I ordered — a Chai Latte. The flavor was very weak. PROS: Gelato variety decent. Prices are average for most gelato shops. Free wi-fi. Outdoor seating. CONS: Service was so-so, the espresso was iffy.

The Safeway select of gelato. Zzzzzz. Also how do you make espresso taste like a burnt shrimp?

A nice little shop. As another reviewer put it: reliable rotating flavors. The gelato shouldn’t dissappoint anyone. I also recommend their pannini sandwiches and they make a nice espresso too using Illy beans. Nice place in a fabulous neighborhood.

I stopped in for a latte and a pastry. My pastry was nearly $ 4, and wasn’t marked. I was surprised that a medium latte and a pastry to go would tip the scales at $ 8. Having said that, the pastry was fantastic. The latte was pretty good. They are quite braggy about how awesome their coffee is. I like a good italian roast, and it was all right, but this spot used to serve Illy, and Illy is hard to improve upon.

Very reliable gelato with rotating flavors. You may sample the flavors until something piques your interest. They’ve also added beer & wine to the expresso, italian sodas, and light snacks and pastries. It’s a great place to relax for a moment with lots of seating and free wifi. They also have punch cards, so your gelato addiction will eventually pay off ;)

Drove around pearl district but couldnt find a gelato place but stumbled upon mio gelato just a few blocks away. Tried watermelon for the first time and i thought it was pretty good. The portion size was generous given the price as well. oh and one of the servers looked like a young megan fox ;)

Best pistachio gelato I’ve ever had… and also really delicious passionfruit-pineapple sorbetto. Mmm! That is all.

A friend and I came to the Alphabet district early one Sunday to do a little browsing and shopping before heading back to Seattle. I wanted to get a quick bite to eat before hitting the road, but wasn’t sure where to go – I didn’t need a gut bomb festering in my belly during my 3 hour drive home. We had stopped by Mio Gelato earlier for coffee and sample of gelato. My astute co-yelper Kathleen noticed they had a variety of tasty looking sandwiches, so we headed back there. I had a delicious hot panini made with sourdough french bread, piquant salami, melted provolone, roma tomatoes and arugala. It came with a dainty side salad of mixed greens and a light vinaigrette dressing. It was fast, fresh and really hit the spot. Kathleen got a scoop of plum and peach gelato, which were both delicious. I let her have most of it though – one of the perks(for her) of having a diabetic friend, I suppose. The staff was really friendly and was happy to give out samples of gelato, along with recommendations for the indecisive. Mio Gelato is a great place to take a break and recharge with a snack or a treat. I plan to return next time I’m in the neighborhood.

Flavors were great and you get a good-sized portion. Atmosphere is fine for what it is and the guy helping us was very friendly. We tried the zabaglione(custardy with a touch of marsala — really good), the rum raisin(intense rum raisin flavor), the lemon sorbetto(sour and refreshing), the chocolate chip(very good version of something I usually don’t order), the nectarine(deeelicious and slightly tart), and the sweet cream(self descriptive). I love gelato because the flavors are so intense and it has less fat than ice cream(almost doesn’t seem possible). Also, this place doesn’t skimp you on the portions — even so, I still wanted more when I got to the bottom of my cup…

Solid flavors and smooth cream. The service is good and the place is almost always crowded. I would take my friends and family here. I like Mio Gelato better than the other gelato place down the street.

The gelato here was pretty solid and the portions sizes were out of this world! I had a double and it was a ton of gelato — which was super awesome. I also bought a couple of the peanut butter crème sandwich cookies they had for sale on the counter, which I consumed later on that day — delicious! I was tempted to get a panini, but I wasn’t hungry enough unfortunately. I’d like to go back there for a full lunch complete with sandwich and gelato because I think it would be really good. The guy who worked there was really friendly and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely come back here.

Mama Mio! I say skip the gelato and go straight for the amazing warm snacks! I was stuck in the rain yesterday and managed to jump into this corner store on 23rd before the onslaught of a full-on deluge. As tourists flooded in behind me loudly affirming things like: «Barbrah daull, it rallay does rayn ouull da tyme en Poytlund,» I snickered to myself as I dipped my black forest ham and swiss panini into a creamy potato-veggie soup. Little do they know, and little will I share. And fools — they order gelato rather than tapping into the true glory of this establishment: the savory snacks! Ah well, take your dolce vita. Leave the eating to an expert.

Oh Trendy Third… my hatred of driving down you is only surpassed by my failed efforts to park on you. Thankfully your neighbors like Pettygrove and Overton are more conducive to such activity, do you know how lucky you are to have them? While walking the 6 blocks from the car to a not to be named popular desert destination we waited at a crossing in front of Mio Gelato. I questioned how long it had been there, I’d never noticed it before… we looked at each other and quickly abandoned our other plans for a couple of dishes of gelato(would that then be the plural Gelati?) We tried chocolate, boysenberry, and coffee, paired with the strongest espresso I’ve ever had. Hitting it before 10.00 wasn’t too bad, they weren’t overly busy, but it was obvious the server’s shift was about over and just wanted to get outta there. If you can, snag a seat by the windows that open onto the busy street. It’s fun to people watch, and catch a breeze on a warm summer night. Not to mention entertaining to watch all the dudes in suv’s try to parallel.

3.5 stars I guess. I will admit that I started out bummed going in there… our plan had been to go to Alotto Gelato but when we got there they were closed for a company picnic! Such a bummer. So, Mio Gelato was our consolation prize. We tried a lot of samples and found everything to just be OK. The flavors were a bit on the boring side, nothing out of the ordinary. We didn’t find anything to be particularly creamy either. Oddly enough the no sugar added low fat strawberry gelato had the strongest, sweetest flavor out of all of them. That combined with the yogi flavored one was my pick. Problem was, I wasn’t super hungry and asked for one scoop but a half of each. Well, I guess they don’t do that. They wouldn’t even give me two small scoops for the price of one. Major bummer. Well, actually the person working there said she could give me two small scoops but we would still get charged for two regular scoops. So, my husband and I just split it. Oh, I also asked if they could just give me the two scoops to go but they don’t really have anything to pack them up with I guess. Not sure if I would be in a rush to go back there. We thought it was OK, we weren’t super impressed. We did think that the two flavors together made for a perfect combination so that made us happy. Staccato Gelato is MUCH better and I am still dying to try Alotto Gelato!

I’ve become a Gelato Freak as of late and made my friends indulge me on a rather cold and rainy day. The grapefruit gelato was excellent, but wished i could have mixed flavors in one scoop as i didn’t want to get 2 whole scoops. Nice and clean inside. Décor all clean and crisp lines. Very Pearl District-y.
