Brad is very unprofessional! I’m in the market to build a custom wheelset for my track bike. I went into the shop today to get a quote for parts and labor for the wheels. Brad was initially very helpful and told me that he would be able to get a quote for me in a couple of hours. He ended up calling me 15 minutes later with a quote. I told him via phone that the quote for parts and labor was roughly $ 80 more expensive than what it should be. I told him that I was going to order the parts individually to save money and instead bring in the wheel parts for him to build. Rather than being ok with that, he refused to accept the service inquiry saying that«we need to keep the lights running in the shop. I can’t charge you $ 45 for labor unless you order parts from us, if you end up supply your own parts then I’ll have to charge you $ 95 per wheel build.» He went on to say«I actually won’t build wheels for you if you don’t order parts from us»… I understand that you’re a business but money is money. Wouldn’t you rather take my $ 190 labor fee than zero dollars at all? I’m just so surprised that such a nice guy can all of a sudden get super salty just because I want to save $ 80 by supplying the parts myself. Also why is it $ 80 more for parts, don’t bike shops have industry discounts? There seem to be some hidden«keep the lights running» fee. I’ll take my business to Jude at Sugar wheel works where they’re willing to build me my dream wheelset regardless if they source my parts for me or not.

Best bike repair in Portland. I wrecked my bike in a crash on the Broadway bride and broke my shoulder in four places. You can imagine what it did to my bike! These guys made my bike like brand new again! Super friendly and helpful staff! I highly recommend this shop to everyone. I’m also a huge supporter of small businesses in my neighborhood!

I’ve been coming to Metropolis for about six months now and have always had a great experience. I’ve done everything from a basic tuneup to picking up spare tubes to a full wheel rebuild. In all of my experiences they’ve been highly professional, remarkably friendly, and reasonably priced. I’ve only had experience working with Brad and he is a stellar mechanic. When rebuilding my wheel he gave me a full menu of component options to help keep the job from breaking the bank. Couldn’t recommend them more.

Hands down Favorite bike repair shop in Portland. I bring them all kinds of bike challenges and they always repair quickly and for a great price. The crew is super friendly and has even brought me in after closing time to fix my bike. No job too small or too big. Frankly, it’s hard to imagine bringing my bike business anywhere but Metropolis.

These guys are awesome — they’re young & cute, they know what they’re doing, and they don’t act like that makes them better than you, the schmuck with the bike. Super helpful and actually nice! And yes — very conveniently located.

The folks here are amazing. Made my bike feel newer after years of use than when I got it brand new.

I put my complete trust in Metropolis. Their mechanics have reliably done excellent maintenance work on my bike since I first started going there over 5 years ago. They make every effort to keep the cost to the consumer reasonable and within their estimates. When unexpected costs and issues arise during maintenance, they have consistently checked with me before moving ahead. Their merchandise selection is not extensive but I’ve always known I’ll get quality when I buy my gear there. They have a devoted customer for life with me. I hope their business continues to thrive.

The whole staff is tremendous! I’m a novice rider at best and they are so helpful and understanding when you have know idea how to explain what’s up with your ride! Brad is terrific and so incredibly sweet. Side note: for the advanced rider LEGIT! My husband has been using this shop for years and raves how lucky he is to have found this shop. Just the best group working on your bike! Terra

Metropolis has the best customer service — hands down. Always willing to drop what they’re working on to help diagnose and fix a problem and send you back out on the road as quickly as possible. I’m pretty good at diagnosing and fixing problems as they arise, but whenever I’m stuck Metropolis comes to the rescue! Thanks, Metropolis!

Metropolis reminds me of the bike shop I went to in the town I grew up in. Convenient location(right next to the Williams bike lane), keepin’ it real vibe in the shop, friendly and reliable service, supportive of the local cycling community, and willing to go the extra mile to track down parts. Metropolis has become my go to place for service and parts.

I don’t know how it happened. All of a sudden I just realized I only go to Metropolitan cycles for everything relating to my bike. I’ve been an avid rider around town for 10 years now, but this bike shop is just the best vibe. They don’t carry too many products, they’re sort of just a brass tacks kind of business which I really appreciate. I really like their female bike mechanic, she’s super tight and she’s always in there acting like a boss and I just really appreciate that as a woman myself. She often figures out ways to help me out, like taping under my bar ends so they don’t slip off. It’s the little things that really stick with you. They never try to upsell you, they always talk to to you straight about what needs to be done on your bike and when, ah shit these guys just treat you with fucking respect which is so rare and I am ever so grateful. Though it has nothing to do with the service whatsoever, one of their mechanics just has the most awe-worthy thighs and the other day I was basically dumbstruck by them. A++ will visit again.

I was at my wits end getting my rear dérailleur adjusted. I had already spent hours at home working on my recumbent trike. I drove down from Battle Ground, WA. I walked in and the guys put it right up on the stand and fixed my problem in about 10 minutes! I am so grateful for the quick service especially on one of the busiest days of the year with the Portland Bridge Pedal. Thank you so much!

This is a great bike shop! Very attentive and friendly staff. I needed some advice and a possible adjustment the man working there stopped what he was doing to make sure I got what I needed done. A+ service and convenient location. Highly recommend!

This place is fast and saved me hundreds. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon at 4pm with what I suspected was a busted freehub. The super nice mechanic helped me immediately, and called within the hour to tell me he had fixed the part I thought was broken rather than having to order an expensive piece from Europe. My bike went from being useless to roadworthy for $ 20.

Can’t recommend. Went in this morning for bike lock. New to the city and uneducated about them in general. Young lady wouldn’t tell me much about diff between 85 dollar lock and 20 dollar. Bought twenty dollar lock and researched immediately. Realized I made a mistake and talked to Abraham Fixes who set me up nice and educated me with a smile. Others mentioned young lady and young gentleman not very friendly here. Can confirm. Went to return 20.00 lock within about 3 hours of purchase. Young man seemed a bit hostile and suggested that REI might be a better place to return stuff. Really man? Cost of goods sold goes up with unfriendly employees. Too bad because I bought a helmet here recently and guy was nice. Also I asked for exchange so I could get something else. He refunded me instead so it seems they’d rather just not have my business. Amazingly if you read other peoples reviews the number one complaint is the rude and unfriendly staff. Sorry guys. Would def recommend Abrahams right down the street though on Williams and Fremont. :-X

Went in here a couple years ago when they were offering a great special for a tune-up. I decided to toss some extra business their way and also have fenders put on and to have the handlebars taped. They did an awesome job, for a fair price. The fender installation was tricky because of my bike frame and they ended up having to cut part of the fender off to make it work and didn’t charge extra for the labor. The dude who worked on my bike was also super duper excited when he found some handlebar tape that nearly matched the green of my bike and asked if it was okay to use that instead. Honestly, I couldn’t say no because he was so enthusiastic about how well the colors matched! All in all, good clean shop with great service and fair prices. A gem for Portland.
