This place is NOT to be trusted! Need to appease your phở craving? Go to Veranda Noodle Bar or the Saigon, not here. But worst of all was the treatment we received from the owner. We were looking for Asian catering and he agreed to cater for our wedding. We even called him a couple months later to confirm it and he said he wrote the date and to call him in May to go over details. HOWEVER, 6 months before the wedding he called and said he booked someone else on our date. He said he was busy and forgot about us and refused to cancel the other wedding, thus leaving us having to scramble for another caterer when we booked him a YEAR in advance. Do yourself a favor and eat better Vietnamese food at another Portland restaurant and avoid this shady restaurant that lacks ethics.

Utterly disappointing. I looove Thai food and I went here strictly on the recommendation of a friend. I got the pad Thai with shrimp and chicken and my fiancé got crispy chicken pad Thai. They conveniently did not include shrimp in my dish and the crispy chicken pad Thai was just bad stirfry with crispy noodles. Ate a couple of bites and tossed the rest. Never ordering from here again.

I have ordered take-out from Mekong a few times now, and it’s always been your average take-out Asian food. Nothing to write home about. After my take-out last night, however, I will probably never order from here again. I ordered the General Thai chicken which comes with some brown rice on the side. The chicken was so fatty that I stopped eating it halfway through. I literally spit out a piece into my hand because I couldn’t continue chewing the piece of animal fat in my mouth. It was disgusting. I feel bad saying that because when I called to place the order, the girl on the phone sounded really nice(my friend picked up the food so I didn’t see her in person). I have never gotten Asian food before and still been hungry once I stopped eating it! The food here is not cheap either, it is much more expensive than other Asian places in the vicinity.($ 12 – 13 dollars for a meal with no sides or apps with it. You get to choose plain white or brown rice. It was so bland; had no seasoning on it whatsoever). Usually a meal like General’s chicken comes with fried rice, but not here you have to buy a separate order of rice if you want that included. I can’t speak for the atmosphere of the restaurant or the service, since I have always ordered take-out or delivery, but overall not impressed with the food so I probably won’t order again.

Mehkong is my go to thai delivery… never any issues with delays or mixups… the food is always fresh and arrives hot. I love the thai wings and fresh shrimp spring roll apps. both delicious The pad thai and drunkin noodle dishes are both very good and well portioned for the money. The roast pork and wonton egg noodle soup is great… a healthy meal in itself. Very little to complain about here… solid 4 stars

Not impressed. I just ordered delivery from them and they forgot one of our dinners, I called back in and they said they would send out another one and give us a 15% discount, 45 minutes later the second one showed up and they charged us for delivery AGAIN. If it was their mess up they shouldn’t charge us to deliver the forgotten meal. I also didn’t really like the food in general the noodles were dry. Will not order from here again

Opening the door to and from this place is forever a pain. You always have to push and pull really hard. I don’t know why they won’t fix that because not everyone open doors on the regular like they’re the Hulk. It takes quite awhile for a waitress to notice you and seat you when it gets busy. When they do though, they’re very attentive and prompt. The food is always fresh and priced perfect to the portion sizes, although it’s always more than necessary. The environment is very tidy and filled with Vietnamese music.

Maybe 3.5 stars. Service was good but being a seasoned Vietnamese connoisseur it was obvious they just knew how to cook some Vietnamese dishes. I had the Phở with beef balls. It was good but lacked meat and broth a little too thin. The server had no idea what traditional Vietnamese hot coffee was«café sua nong». But all in all a good experience and food was good.

I love this place. Very nice and clean with great customer service. All the dishes are excellent but my favorite is the pad thai and chicken with hot basil leaves.

This is one of my top 3 thai places. Great food, nice ambiance, wonderful service. I only wish they had a few more vegetarian options.

My family and I went here after church one Sunday, and were very impressed! Our server was very prompt and friendly, and the food was nicely presented, tasty, and reasonably priced. The hot and sour soup was better than most, and the Pad Thai was amaaaaaazing. It’s definitely something I’ll be craving in the winter. The décor was so-so … Clean, but nothing inspiring or unique. We were also the only people dining in at noon on a Sunday. I like the energy of a restaurant full of people. Makes me nervous they’ll close!

Portland has a plethora of Thai restaurants. For a city of 60,000 we some how have almost 10 Thai places to go. For high end Thai at Boda to hole in the walls like Saeng Thai. Mehkong has a nice location slightly outside of downtown Portland a very large parking lot. They are next door to a restaurant that has gone through more names than p. diddy at this point. We started the dinner with a corn fritter appetizer, I didn’t really care for it, it was more corn batter than filling. The dipping sauce was a red syrup-y sweet concoction that did not enhance the appetizer. I had the duck pad Thai special it was pretty standard pad Thai, the duck was in large chunks that tasted great except for the fatty grizzle that was attached to so some pieces(shudder for a moment). The service was great, refilled the water in a timely manner and made sure to check in on us. Again pretty standard Thai place for Maine, if this was in the south where they shockingly have few Thai places this would be a 4 but when this city has so much to offer you need to step it up.

So, I was craving something that tasted good in the greater Portland area, my friend recommended this establishment. He said you could either eat in or take out. so, I busted it solo act style. I opened it up with a mixed appetizer platter for one that came with two chicken wings, a wonton, crab rangoo, one beef stick and one chicken stick with four dipping sauces including a scrumptious peanut sauce that was both thick and tasty. I then ordered the Pad Tai and it was a large sized portion and deliciously tasty dish that was littered with three large shrimps and many chunks of white meat chicken. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the flavors were mouth watering. The service was spot on and prompt with four other tables in the dining area. The only piece that I would give some constructive criticism is the décor really isnt anything special with flat wallboard carpet and stained rugs. But the service and the food overcame the blah décor. If you are looking for a place to go that has a good priced menu for some delicious Thai/Asian cuisine, then head into Mekhong. Remember one other thing. it is a little confusing because it sits right in front of the Venue restaurant which is a bar. Don’t confuse the entrances. it is sitting closest to the street. I will be returning here for good food in the future.

The ambiance looks authentic but the food is not. Pad See Ew was too sweet.

Mekhong is our go-to place when we want Thai delivered! We love the Roasted Peanut dish. I usually get it with tofu and my fiancé with beef… and both always come freshly made and are excellent! We also are big fans of the thai dumplings with garlic on top. They usually estimate 45 minutes for delivery, but I can’t think of a time I have waited more than 30. One warning, pad thai is perhaps not their speciality, but we have been very pleased with our selections!

I stumbled across this place one night around 9:30 when nothing else was open(thank you Maine). It was great! The portions were just night, not gluttonous like at other places. I had green curry, which was great, especially the fried tofu in it. And the spring roles were fresh, not fried. Much better than the Thai places I’ve been to on Congress Street. And pretty cheap – entrees for under $ 8. Overall, awesome.

WOW. What happened to this joint? Let me go backwards a few years and say that this used to be awesome Thai. Just awesome. Great food, wonderful service. Really enjoyed every visit and every time we did take out. Then a couple of years ago we took friends here from out of town. Bad reaction later that evening to the curry dishes as two of the four came down with stomach problems. That can happen I guess. Now fast forward to this past Friday night. Place was somewhat quiet when we were seated. A few minutes later a waitperson came by, plopped down the menus and said she’d be back for our order soon — No time to order drinks. Came back and we ordered an app and some beer and said we’d order the main course when the app arrived. Beer came quick as did our starter. Placed our main course order. Spinach dumpling were bland and very chewy, too chewy. About ten minutes later my entrée arrived. 15 minutes later the wait person came by to ask how everything was and I mentioned my wife had not received her food yet. Wow. Apparently it was prepared and waiting on the line to be brought out. Needless to say it arrived cold and being a dish that revolved around tofu and peanut sauce it was overwhelmed by salt. So powerful in fact that it was not edible. And this is coming from a man who uses waaay too much salt to begin with and I could not tolerate it. Places can have off nights, happens all the time. But the lack of focus across the board makes this a must miss for all. There are too many decent Thai joints in Portland. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

Food is great!- prices are fare– small not a lot of seating leads to long wait for a table– all in all I would recommend if your in the area
