La Quinta Inn Portland Convention Center

For a hotel just rest my eyes. It wasnt bad. Clean, front desk very friendly, reasonably priced. The beds are VERY comfortable. It was like diving into clouds. If there was more than just me staying in the room the bathroom was a bit small. The noise from the street is also very loud and can be heard through a closed window. It is pet friendly which is nice and they privide treats for your dog as well as poop bags. As far as the location not great but I was only here to rest my eyes so it wasnt bad. The continental breakfast was ok. Nothing great but it came with the room so no complaints. My breakfast was ruined by this loud lady talking to her friends about taking a «dump» and needing room deodorizer but this not the fault of the hotel.
I would stay here again if I was staying for one or two nights but would choose something else for a longer stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The beds were amazing. The rooms were fairly quite except fro the kids running up and down the hall in the morning. The rooms were fine, a good deal for the price we paid $ 109 per night and it was right next to the light rail which was really convenient. However, the maids only make the beds and do not really clean the rooms or even replenish the cups in your room. If you are OK with that then you will be fine here. Also, the breakfast in the morning is only served from 7:00am to 9:30am so if you like to lay in bed you will miss breakfast. The breakfast was fresh waffles, hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels. fruit, cereal, pastry, coffee and juices. The coffee was very good. I would stay here again if I was on budget like this trip.

I stayed here during the summer and paid roughly $ 89 on a weekend. We chose the La Quinta since its very close to the rose garden and the lloyd center. I actually really liked this place, the rooms wernt bad at all and they had a pretty decent continental breakfast. make sure you get there early though because the two days we stayed the breakfast room was crazy busy!

I wasn’t here to hang out in my room, I was in Portland to explore. The vicinity of this place is what makes it great. The room itself was ok. A little musty and I never did get the weird room key thermostat to work, but I also didn’t really need it. I didn’t love the itchy comforter and think that they might want to update their bedding. What I did love was their bed. I am still reminiscing about how comfortable I slept during my stay there.
I also took advantage of the continental breakfast one morning while I was there and Clyde, who worked for the hotel was amazing and so good with helping me. He made me a waffle and helped me clean up after too. One of those stars above is just for him and the level of service he brought.
My room was right by the stairs and I was nervous about noisiness in such a high traffic area, but honestly, it wasn’t bad at all.
If I am in Portland again, I may stay here since it is so convenient and affordable.

5 stars for vicinity.
2 stars for cleanliness.
2 stars for hotel upkeep.
3 stars for noise.
Overall, 3 stars. This hotel has a great location. 5 minutes away from Lloyd center, really close to other shopping and it seemed to be in the center of Portland life.
HOWEVER, when I turned the shower on, the water came out brown and I had to let it run for a while. Uhhh… what? There were cracks on the walls and I thought we might have plaster fall on our faces in the middle of the night. Not to mention that our bed sheets had a stain on them.
I read about the noise problem from other Unilocal reviewers, so we made a point to ask for a room facing the parking lot. I’m not sure how bad the noise is in the other parts of the hotel, but you could still hear some traffic from our room.
I would have given this place 2 stars if it hadn’t been for the great location. Even still, I think for my next trip down to Portland, I’ll find another hotel. I’d rather sleep in a better hotel with a extra 10 minute drive.

Loud. Old. Weird lights w/​no on/​off switch & heating/​ac that requires your room key. otoh great location& lots of freebies. Another Motel 6 look alike. The worst La Quinta I’ve ever seen!
UPDATE: we switched from an *outside* room to one that faces the parking lot and was on the top floor («at the same rate») and the difference was night/​day! I would stay here again. but only top floor facing the parking lot. It’s walking distance from lots of stuff you’re likely to wanna do.
BUT. they charged more than they «estimated» when we checked out eeeeearly in the morning. we were in a hurry and too tired to fight it .ugh.

The outside is a bit drab but the rooms are clean and nothing to complain about. It did the job for being a place to sleep, but beyond, that…
The few front desk staff I interacted with had very little clue of the area. The first guy knew close to nothing about bars in the area (he could only give us the general location of one bar 10 blocks away!) and couldn’t point us in the direction of the river, though it was probably under a ½ mile away. The next lady was very nice, but couldn’t tell recommend a place to eat besides Denny’s (which is not the ideal place to go when on vacation!). Perhaps training should include a little course about the area…
The location is great in proximity to the convention center, but don’t bother looking out the window. It is so secure that sometimes the guests’ card keys don’t open the door to the building! But I will admit, they were quite prompt about fixing the card.
They have a gym and pool, but I didn’t try either. One of my companions did complain about noise, but I did not experience any.
We didn’t find it budget-​friendly, but that is likely due to jacked up prices for the conference we were attending.

This hotel really deserves 4 ½ STARS! It is one and a half blocks from The Oregon Convention Center. and those are short blocks. I desperately needed an inexpensive hotel close to The Oregon Convention Center on short notice. Since this was my first time in Portland, I did not know anything about the area… noise level.etc.; and it was REALLY important I was able to have a good night’s sleep.
It was so close, I could almost roll out of bed and arrive at The Oregon Convention Center! This was the most important thing. plus a room with double queen beds was only $ 86. The hotel is 100% smoke free, the rooms clean and nice plus their bed was the most comfortable ever; and I have traveled to numerous places. Their beds are truly unbelievable!
This is an ecofriendly hotel, which allows one to forgo the daily sheet changing. The staff was also sooooooooooooo friendly; some of the friendliest I have encountered. Aime was usually the staff member on duty when I had a question. lucky me. Seriously! Her kindness was overwhelming. Aime always had a lovely smile on her face each and every time we spoke.
The nightly free. and warm cookies were definitely a bonus! The hotel does look old and shabby from the outside and the continental breakfast was average. but since the rooms, staff, price and proximity to The Oregon Convention Center are awesome. I am quite satisfied!
They also allow pets, giving you a cute pet goodie bag on arrival (they have one for kids as well!) and have an indoor pool.
Oh! Red Robin’s is across the street. Starbucks just down the street. and Burgerville, which is an all organic free range fast food place with seasonal shakes and all recyclable cups, utensils, napkins (basically everything).their cherry (local cherries!!!) chocolate shake with a shot of espresso was one of the best taste combos ever. is across from the backside of Red Robin’s! You must go to Burgerville!
Also…one and a half blocks from awesome MAX line (metro).which has a free zone! Portland has one of the best transportation systems I have ever witnessed and I live in S.F.; where we have several. I usually waited five minutes or less for the MAX! Love it!

Good for the budget-​conscious. I stayed for a New Year’s long weekend and was pleased overall. The hotel is a few minutes’ drive to downtown and restaurants/​bars on or around Burnside. Plus, there’s a Starbucks within walking distance (OK for the day, but a little sketchy at night).
It appears this place used to be more of a low-​end motel, but the update is nice enough. The guest rooms even have a «green» heating/​cooling system that’s activated by the room key. If your key isn’t in the slot (i.e. when you’re out for the day), the system is off automatically.
However, whatever energy was saved during my stay was counteracted by housekeeping. I’m not a messy person, so I didn’t need my room cleaned every day. Thus, I left the «do not disturb» sign on the door. Housekeeping skipped my room, but left me bags of clean towels at my door. Lesson is call the front desk and request no additional towels!

Very friendly staff. Smelly, loud, stained rooms. Walk past dumpsters to get to the elevator. If you want a $ 70 dollar room, go 3 blocks up to the Doubletree!!!

It’s an OK place for the cheap. Hot breakfast was really good though, for a cheap hotel joint.

This place is ‘reliable’ in the sense that it appears to be good most of the time. The internet was on the fritz when I was there, and the employees were less then helpful. The breakfast was solid, though, and the guy that was manning that station was clearly wasted in that endeavor.
Bed was hard as a rock, though, and a little lump. Place was clean, so points back.

This is not the classiest place in town but it has some things going for it. For one, if you are on a budget it’s cheap. Like $ 75 a night. Two if you are on the road for a long time it has a coin operated washer/​dryer-​something you can’t find in 5 star hotels. Third, there’s a pool and a gym-​although admittedly I’ve used neither. Fourth, it’s walking distance to the Max red and blue lines so you can easily get to downtown. Fifth, it’s right near Burgerville so you can get one of those seasonal Portland Pumpkin or Blackberry milkshakes. Sixth, it’s walking distance to the Viscount on Burnside Avenue where they have salsa, swing, and hustle dance classes. Seventh, it’s an easy cab or bike ride to Alberta Street where I believe it’s the last thursday of the month that they close off the street for everything from art & crafts to street performances, to mud wrestling in vacant lots along the street.

Here for a convention… skip the Double Tree, it is crap. The Quinta is where it’s at. Closer to max, food, convention center, free breakfast, decent pool. Even the room service, I left Do Not Disturb on my door, not only was I not disturbed. but they left a bag with fresh towel and bathroom amenities on the door handle, each day. This made me very happy… Ritz, Fairmount anywhere else I have never experienced this. The staff was super friendly everyone here smiled and said hi. If I’m in P-​town again for a conference, I’ll probably be back here.

A solid 4 stars for the amenities. I got «hooked» on La Quinta when traveling home to SF and staying in their facility on Van Ness, next to Mel’s. Their continental breakfast is what hooked me! Booked a standard room in Portland for a friend and I when we went up for the RHCP concert. A very short walk to the Rose Garden and easy walking distance to Lloyd Center for shopping and people watching. The rooms are nothing fancy but they are clean and comfortable. The indoor swimming pool is SPECTACULAR! It is huge compared to most hotels, and warm, and open 24 HOURS! The continental breakfast includes fresh baked waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, muffins, bagels, cereal, hard boiled eggs, juices, coffee and milk. As much as you can eat. Located close to the Max line for an easy trip to Saturday Market and downtown shopping on Saturday. Free WiFi. Pets welcome (with restrictions). Lots of attractions nearby. Did I mention the pool? It was great to shop; go for drinks; go to an ass kickin’ concert; come back to hotel & swim; go to the Original Hotcake House (
) (dive) for early a.m. breakfast and hysterical people watching; come back to hotel and swim some more; sleep then get up to a fat continental breakfast then hop on public transportation to go downtown; Come back, swim again then hit the I-​5 heading south for home.
