Harmony Montessori School

Where to even start… A pure Montessori experience with a loving and talented staff, an amazing new building close to Montavilla, and a close-​knit parent community. I have 2 children currently enrolled, and a 3^rd who will go here when he’s old enough. The new Elementary program is outstanding and I’m thrilled that my children will get to stay part of this community from age 2.5 through 6^th grade.
You could not ask for a better Montessori environment our education in general. I’m continually astounded by the level of reading, writing, math, and creativity I see the children at Harmony demonstrating. The fact that they’ve accomplished so much at such a young age while being so engaged and loving everything about what they’re doing makes me want to go back and do school over again myself.
We looked at a large number of Montessori programs in Portland and I could not be happier with the choice we ended up making. From the moment we toured this school it was clear that this is a truly special place.

Harmony has my heart. When our oldest was in a very special Montessori toddler program (A Peaceful Path Montessori in Vancouver), the idea of sending him on was hard because he had such a wonderful, loving, peaceful start. We didn’t know about Harmony at the time, so we put him in another nearby Montessori school. He wasn’t thriving, and his safety wasn’t being looked after, so we looked to move him. .. and we found the best home away from home for him – Harmony Montessori School!
He immediately began to bloom in the Ocean Room with Katie. They were a match made in heaven, and he just flourished. Yes, he learns amazing things in children’s house that you and I probably didn’t learn until 4^th-​7^th grade, but, more than that, he (and now his little sister) regularly practice peace. They learn to be wonderful people – grace, courtesy, kindness, love, friendship – those are the important pieces of the puzzle to us.
Now we know all the staff and just love them all. Tricia’s sense of humor (Lake Room), Kristen’s big heart (River Room), Joline’s graceful presence (Waterfall Room). And they have wonderful partnerships with their co-​teachers and assistants, who are all wonderful people who bring their own gifts. I trust them with my children because they love them all and guide them in a truly meaningful way.
One of my children is easy peasy lemon squeezey with most things, and the other has had more challenges (social, sensory etc.), and it’s been huge to know that both of them are being partnered with in the best way for them. The staff is always working with the parents to make sure the children are thriving.
Now let’s talk about Elementary, which our oldest will be starting in the fall. Millie is just fabulous. We had the opportunity to send our child to a charter Montessori, but we made the choice to keep him with Millie because we knew that he would continue to blossom with her. She is so energetic and youthful, while bringing a grounded and well-​rounded educational experience that allows the students to really grow and learn through their own interests and passions. Millie already has a great relationship with both of our children, even though they haven’t yet entered her classroom. To see our younger already trust and have affection for Millie is very meaningful.
I truly feel that Harmony is the highest quality for the lowest (Montessori) tuition. I also love the fact that there is a real commitment to diversity of all kinds through the Children’s Fund (scholarship for children for whom English is a second language) and a scholarship program.
Lastly, the parent community is also incredibly special. People know each other, like each other, spend time with each other. Special friendships are made between the children, but families also make friends for life. People help each other out and truly care about each other. I am so thankful for the relationships I have there.
