I saw Regal was going to start doing purse/bag searches on the news this morning, but Regal evidently instituted that as of about a week ago. A regular employee, not a security officer, politely asked me to open my purse for a visual search. I did not find it invasive or troublesome at all and it was quickly over. Because of the shootings at other movie theaters(I think one of them was at a Regal Cinema), it is sadly necessary for all patrons to stay safe. Thanks, Regal.

I like this building but I do miss what was there before, a couple of little used theaters including the Fox Theater(where the building gets its name), a mural of some wales on the Fox Theater by Wyland, and a couple of cool restaurants the old Hamburger Mary’s and the Vat and Tonsure(a nice restaurant). While they are gone now in there place is a 27 story modern building. It was built by the Moyer family which used to own most of the theaters in the area. The upper floors are office but the first two floors are a mix of retail, food, and a movie multi-plex.

Try this. When the movie starts, turn on the goddamn A/C. Me and elderly folks who were watching Midnight In Paris nearly all had heat strokes. This is after the picture was out of focus. You know Beth Willie, I alerted the staff and they EVENTUALLY fixed it. Then, in the last five minutes the sound went to total shit. Somehow I still loved the movie despite the management’s attempts to make me feel otherwise. And you charge $ 10 for a ticket? And $ 8 for popcorn. Whatever.

I worked in this building for years. One of Portland’s newer sky scrapers, the Fox Tower boasts a fairly slick, refined design which, while clean and modern, borders on boring. Situated across from Portland’s living room and close to the 10th and Alder cart pod, there’s plenty of options nearby for food and entertainment, so it’s a good, central place to post up in a cubicle and push paper. Add in the proximity to the MAX and bus mall, and even transportation is convenient. As far as in-building amenities, there’s a garage(one of the most expensive in the city), a cinema(a Regal that shows indie flicks), a Flying Elephants outpost(delicious, but expensive food), a temporary Ringside location, Banana Republic and the oh-damn-I-wish-I-could-afford-it Mario’s. The building could benefit from a general sundries store, as Elephant’s is an expensive and impractical standby. Definitely more sterile than some of the other buildings in town, but a good, new, modern office building and a decent place to work. Also, there’s a penthouse residence on top accessible by a special elevator, and the views from up there are pretty awesome.
