This little spot is great. With less hustle and bustle than most Portland coffee shops, it’s a great place to while away an afternoon or spend a chill weekday morning. The staff is friendly and they play great records at a nice volume. The coffee is fantastic and the prices are reasonable.

The coffee was delicious. The coffee shop has the perfect Portland ambiance. It’s quirky, with charming old school furniture and a very pleasant open set up that invites a deep breath yet feels cozy. The free wifi is a plus as was the relative quiet which made it easy for me to get a bit of work done while I sipped my tasty latte. There’s not much food here but my baked treat was quite good and just the right size for a sweet snack.

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this yet as have been coming here for ages. This is our goto place for coffee and we have to bypass several other options to get here. Have never had a bad cup of coffee here, if you aren’t sure about the choices just follow the knowledgeable baristas recommendations and you will not be disappointed. Always four choices of origin on the board and several more bagged for sale. Cappuccino made one size just like in Italy, not the bucket full of whatever they serve in other places(call it something else people). Pastries from Bakeshop, free wifi(slow), and well curated music on vinyl and digital. A solid 10.

Kind of weak pour over coffee. Pretty good scone. Noisy and small space.

Their service is just so winning. Every time that I’ve walked over, it’s been totally worth it to order a cold brewed coffee. I may feel like I am going to have a heart attack after consuming, but that is half the experience. Love the flavor, love the service. Nice work guys.

One of the best latte I ever had if not the best. I did not have time to ask more about their coffee since I like to dig a bit but next time I will. Not an average latte, it did blow my mind. Thanks for the great coffee. :-))

Honestly the best coffee I’ve ever had. There’s something behind their mad science.

Full disclosure: I’m more a tea(and wine) person. But, in recent months I have begun exploring the possibilities of espresso, sampling cappuccini around town at all of the highly-praised kaffeeslingers. On three separate occasions Extracto has consistently surpassed its peers(e.g. Barista, Ristretto) in all respects — flavor, temperature, consistency, etc. I’d give it my highest recommendation.

Awesome little spot, with classic Portland coffeehouse aesthetic. Very good iced coffee and wicked caffeinated.

We’ve come to appreciate the complex flavors in Extracto coffees and now get freshly roasted beans from here every week. I love how sometimes the beans are so freshly roasted they tell you to let them age a couple of days before grinding! Am very fond of the coffee drinks and have had some of the best cappuccino in town here.

I was impressed at the care that the baristas take in making the coffee here. They have an amazing selection of pour overs, with funny descriptions(one had a hint of «band-aid» and another had«disappointment»). The barista was very friendly and helpful. I tried the Guatemala, which had an unique and intense flavor.

This is literally around the corner from the house and I can count the number of times I’ve been here on one hand(namely two and only because I’m cheap and had Chinook coupons). I had a mocha and it just didn’t do it for me. Was it the chocolate? The espresso? Who knows? Pretty unfortunate. I blow $ on pricey espresso drinks daily and would love to frequent a place so close to me but alas it was not meant to be.

They keep on rolling down the hill. When this place first opened the people running the shop were reasonably acknowledged about coffee. Now it seems they just care about serving«stuff», but the guy who made me the espresso really didn’t have any clue of how an espresso is supposed to be. It was TERRIBLE! From my favorite coffe shop to the last on the list. Sad!

The finest cup of coffee I’ve ever had. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe pour over, with the ideal balance of bitterness and flavor.

If I could give Extra to 10 stars I would. Seriously. It’s that wonderful. And FYI I am not a coffee snob. I love my coffee, and I despise bad coffee, but that’s about as refined as I get about their it. So, Here are the reasons why they have stolen my coffee heart: They have the best soy latte I’ve had in my life, and I’ve had well more than my fair share They are craftsman. They really care about what they do and the quality of their product and it shows in every detail. The young gents working here are some of the nicest and least pretentious people that I have met ever. The coffee is very reasonably priced and superior to anything else around. I could go on and on but I’ll leave it right there. Your doing yourself a disservice if you do not frequent and support this amazing coffee haven and allow them to deliver you consistently with the liquid gold that is their coffee.

With Barista and Case Study(coming soon) in proximity, what’s Extracto’s draw? Go on a warm summer afternoon and you’ll see. The café opens out onto the large patio area, happy chatting people soaking up the sunshine and drinking all manner of caffeinated beverages. It’s the closest thing we have to a European-style plaza café. Take advantage of it!

Extracto Coffeehouse is a destination café. Their espresso is THAT good! It’s also no-frills but definitely for the pour-over coffee lover. Six Chemex are lined up to receive the Portland Love Potion: coffee in its steamy, multi-layered richness! Service is efficient and knowledgeable. Prices are typical. This is one place, if you’re visiting, you don’t want to miss. It’s SO Portland, and especially, SONE Portland!

OPEN air café, too bad that means flies get in too though we came to try the coffee since this place was recommended by a local! –iced coffee: the coffee itself was not bad BUT i’m not too fond of the brand of soy milk they use here but at least they let you pour your own amount after many coffeehouses. i’m starting to think Portland coffee just isnt for me

The love and care that’s put into coffee these days is mind blowing. The PNW sets the bar pretty high so any little two bit coffe bar that opens up in your neighborhood better be bringin the love along with a healthy dose of rich creamy caffeine. The first thing I want to say about Extracto is they poured me the best gat dang cup of drip coffee i ever done tasted! The Guatemalan is sooo bombtastic. On my first visit there, I was super tired, it was rainy and I couldn’t decide between coffee and hot chocolate so I did what any sensible person in that predicament would do and I just ordered a mocha. I must admit, if this was where I left off, I would have only given three stars. The mocha was a little on the weak side on all levels. I think it was perhaps too milky. Maybe it was only a single shot with a tone of milk and the tiniest splash of chocolate. Whatevs. They made it look like a painting and he obviously cared about what he was doing and maybe that’s how he likes his mochas if he even drinks them. After the lackluster mocha, I needed more and thats when I ordered that awesome cup of guatemalan liquid crack. While at the counter, I noticed that they were selling what appeared to be signature chocolate bars. But it was so much better than that… Extracto makes a coffee bar. That’s right, a friggin coffee bar. It’s made just like chocolate, it even contains cacao and milk. The bean mixture just has way more coffee than cacao and it is noticeable in the mouthfeel and of course, the robust flavor. It’s thin, firm, delicately sweetened and has a fine crunch to it. Luckily for me, I was reading up on making chocolate coffee soufflé and that coffee bar was the perfect way to flavor it. serendipity… If I had one thing to complain about, it would be the ambiance. Although it’s not a major grievance, I feel like I should mention it. The energy in there was a little stale, not as homey as most coffee shops I’ve been to. I don’t mean to sound nit-picky, but I wasn’t clicking with that weird monkey riding a dragon mural thing. After living in Eugene for several years, I get easily annoyed by bad art. But hey, if that’s my one beef with this place besides a mocha that fell short, then these guys are doing pretty good.

Personally, the Extracto on Killingsworth is a way better establishment. The people here are friendly enough but like someone said previously, they don’t have a recommended coffee, you have to read this tiny little chalkboard and pick one of their roasts. For someone who doesn’t know their roasts, you have no idea where to start. The coffee was good enough but the regular drip coffee was not done by auto drip, it was done manually. I suppose there is some thing nice about manual drop coffee but this is NOT the place to go when you’re looking for a quick cup on your way to work. I went in there and it took about 15 minutes to make my cup of joe. As I said, the one on Killingsworth is the better shop out of the 2, it definitely can sustain a higher flow of people and have more options. This place is probably better for the lazy day not an on the go day.
