This place is not as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah, it smells kinda funny and the heater has one setting… LOUD. But it is close to some great bars and it’s right across the street from Voodoo Donut. It’s a pretty long trek to the downtown area, but it’s definitely do-​able.
The front desk lady definitely does not speak English as her first language, but she was very nice.
Bottom line is, you get what you pay for. You cannot pay $ 65 for a hotel that close to downtown and expect it to be a 5 star luxury hotel.
Great for people on a budget.

Do not – I repeat DO NOT – stay at this place. It is staffed by a timid desk person who evidently does not understand English very well, backed up by a couple of thugs she calls on to confront you when she thinks you have done something wrong (based on her own inability to understand everyday conversation). Must be a lot of criminal types that hang out there. The room STANK. The bed was uncomfortable. The heat was either on (too hot) or off (too cold). The remote is issued after you pay; I guess they think you’re going to steal it. I could have put up with all that until the thugs showed up. I ended up finding MUCH better lodging at a cheaper price elsewhere.
