I picked this place more out of convenience and curiosity than anything else. Still the perfect Portland burrito eludes me, but I keep trying. I’m going to call El Capullo, not a diamond, but a semi-precious stone in the rough. Real rough. The place is in a kind of questionable area, and is a bIt unkept and dirty inside, but it kind of reminded me more of Mexico, in keeping with authenticity. The menu is also very traditional and limited. Burritos, enchiladas, tamales and of course, tacos. I got a veggie burrito and my man got steak tacos. I loaded up on each of the salsas from the salsa bar, and we were both totally surprised at how delicious and different each one was. Glad I ordered chips… and a coke in a bottle, imported from Mexico. The burrito came with refried beans and rice on the side. The rice was really mushy, but tasted almost creamy and was pretty yummy! The burrito was not as good because it was grilled, and since they didn’t offer knives, i couldnt really eat it right. The insides were decent fodder for further chips and salsa eating though. Later, the entire meal was a bit rough on the tummy. Next time I’m getting tacos! Just corn tortillas, meat, cilantro and onions. And their salsa– got them an extra star. Go for the salsa… if you can handle the dirty south… east.
