Deck Masters

So far I’ve had a good experience with the company. I dislike seeing rotten reviews, when customers haven’t even employed the use of a contractor’s services. Two reviewers complained of being turned down on new projects, but that’s pretty normal when a company is very busy. I wonder if they’d rather have the jobs accepted then wait five months for work to start? Stay tuned, as I update this review – but so far, they’ve been prompt in answering calls and scheduling estimates.

Placed 2 calls for a quote without a callback. Tried a third time, which I am not sure why since after two I should’ve gone elsewhere. On the third try the lady answering the phone said the notes state they are too busy to take on new clients. I have never heard of such a thing in this type of industry. Very odd.

I was super excited to use Deck Master’s. We received the quote for a deck in May this year but needed to put that project on hold. I recently called Deck Master’s for a quote on fence repair. I let Deck Master’s know that it did not need to be fixed right away. The fence repair could wait until October/​November. However, I never received a call back or email. After 2 weeks I called again. The receptionist was somewhat nice; she had all my information from my previous call and told me they were too busy to even call me about the fence repair. I let her know that I understand the project is not big money but it could wait until they were slower. That was a week ago and still has not heard from anyone. Unfortunately, my deck purchase next year ($ 8,800 quoted by them) will be purchased through another deck builder.

I hired Deck Masters for my patio cover project. I wanted specific set of Skylift brackets and specific Acrylite corrugated acrylic cover materials. They had experience with both products. I had drawings I created with help of a structural engineer friend. I had 4 bids in total. Everyone bid off the same set of drawings. Their price was not the lowest, but not the highest. I had a bid at ½ of the DeckMaster’s price, but I could not trust knowing how much the materials alone cost. I worked with Matt mostly after the initial meeting with Chris, the owner. Matt is very easy to talk to, professional, and worked very hard. Deck Masters pretty much did everything they said they would do. They have a skilled crew. If any issues were brought to their attention, they sent someone the next day to correct. They cleaned up the job site at the end of each day before leaving. I should have hired these guys for my fence project. I gave a good review on Above All Fence company who did my fence last year, but they’ve gotten pretty arrogant these days. They would not even provide an estimate or show any interest in doing the work. Maybe, this job was beyond their abilities. If you want quality at a reasonable price, this is the place. I am a mechanical engineer and I am pretty picky about things like this. They certainly met my expectations.

In November 2013, after another fence contractor fell through, my NE PDX neighbors and I were in a pinch. But Chris Marquand and Deckmaster came through! They were on time, on budget, and the resulting fence is beautiful. The crew worked in snowy weather and right up to Thanksgiving, like it was not a problem. I noted they didn’t take shortcuts, or trample foliage, and they cleaned up after themselves each day, too. The three neighbors got exactly what Chris promised — a quality, picture-​frame cedar fence; no small thing to please three households! I highly recommend them. Same as MB only the guy was late. He appeared nervous and jittery… took a few measurements and discussed some materials, and then suddenly said he could not bid on a project this small. Said he was too busy– shook hands and left. He did not suggest any other options and I was very clear on the phone before he came out that I was residential in an old bungalow NE neighborhood. Left us feeling really weird, like «What was that that just happened?

Chris and his crew were fantastic! We just moved into our first house and needed fences for our dog. He was fast and the quality was great. Both the start of the project and the work went faster than I had guessed and even when I threw in the back fence. Although we needed both and got quotes for both we were originally just going to do one first. The back looks great now. I love the style and it has improved our view (no more raggedy neighbor fences).
My husband and I have some other projects in mind once we get settled and I look forward to working with Chris again.

We recently hired Deckmasters to do a new deck for us over the top of an old cement slab that had seen better days. Chris (owner) came over and was professional and took the time to get to know what we were looking for and incorporated that into the design and the price. His estimate was not the lowest and not the highest. But after dealing with some real bozos, it was clear to hire Deckmasters to do the deck. The crew was on time everyday and the job was done a week ahead of the original start date. The crew was friendly and professional from start to clean up. When it was all finished, it had exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Deckmasters. They definitely believe in customer service and satisfaction.

I hired Deck Masters to build a porch railing and fence/​pergola for my home. All of my dealings with Chris were great and thorough – not at all my experience with contractors in the past – and the price was incredibly good.
Chris predicted the job would take one to two days, but it ended up being only one. His team of 4 – 5 guys powered through the job, and while I was not home during most of the hours they were on site, my neighbors were, and reported that they were very impressed with how quickly, efficiently, and seamlessly the work was done. The workmanship is precise and excellent, and the guys did a really wonderful job cleaning up at the end of the day – again, not something I have experienced with other contractors.
The railing and fence look great, smell great (yay for cedar!), and all of our neighbors have commented on how much better our house looks with the new additions. I would absolutely recommend these guys.

Mick at Deck Masters was friendly, professional, and did a great job on our fence. He was very flexible as the plan changed about whether or not to demo our neighbor’s existing fence, and he left the work area clean and safe at the end of each day.
We had a miscommunication about the height of the gate, and when I mentioned to him that it wasn’t as I had expected, he wasn’t rude or defensive – he offered to redo the gate for the cost of materials only, and was totally understanding and courteous about the whole thing. The fence is beautiful and solid. We hope to build a deck one day and I will definitely call Deck Masters again.
