Only been here twice but had a wonderful time both times. The first was with the lovely Allegra bartending. The second, the lovely Darrell. Equal in their charm the bartenders at this spot are perfect

I came in on Sunday, January 31^st, 2016. The bartender was awesome, my date and I had an awesome time. Super relaxed atmosphere, bartender was on point and definitely added to the environment. By far, this bar was the best stop of the night. We went to a few other bars that night but none of them compared.
What I wanted was a semi quiet place to gave a good conversation with my date. Mission accomplished at the dark horse. I’ll definitely be coming back to this establishment with all of my friends. In my opinion, this place is in my top 5 of bars on 21^st.

Went here for some drinks. Had great service. Bartenders were friendly and we loved the ambiance. Nice music but it wasn’t so loud that you couldn’t visit. TVs had on both sports and a TV show. A nice mix. Drinks were good. Baffled by the 3 star rating on Unilocal

Great experience at dark horse tonight. Our bartender, darrell, was great. Really took care of us and charismatic to boot. Good food good vibes. Dark horse is a hidden gem. I will be back

A respite from the craziness on 21^st. Tasty cocktails, relaxed vibe and attentive service, though not obtrusive. Allegra was spot on in keeping our drinks fresh and making sure we were «A-​OK». Plus, television for those sports addicted. We’ll be back…

Been to Dark Horse now a few times. First time the bartender was super switched on. Intuitive, sharp, solid at her job. The last three times a younger brunette girl has been there. What a fail. She speaks to clients like its a strip bar and pays little to no attention until it’s tipping time. All my friends that tend bar are definitely more focused on customers over me when I’m in their bar. She is the polar opposite. I felt like raising my hand to get attention while at the bar with 2 other people in the whole place. If that were my business I’d look at sales numbers, w/​her there and without. Maybe I’m missing the appeal. To be candid, I will never go back there. There’s to many better places within 10ft.

Nice location! Love the little garage seating! The drinks are great but the bartender wasn’t very attentive and was talking about personal matters with her friend who was sitting at the bar. Would consider coming back and dealing with some other bar staff

The only redeeming quality of this bar was one bartender in particular. This place seems to be in a constant struggle with what it wants to be. Management needs to figure it out and stop wasting prime drinking real estate in NW. Apparently they don’t care for customer service because one of the only bartenders that seemed to be a genuine and enthusiastic service industry worker got fired. Lame.

Very rude staff. First, he made the assumption that we weren’t going to order food by telling us that we were fine sitting at our table for now, but would have to move to the bar if they got busy. (We were the only one’s in the place, wonder why!) After we ordered he asked to see our ID’s. While I had my ID in-​hand trying to present it to him, my girlfriend had forgotten hers. He told us that we couldn’t even be there if we didn’t have our ID’s and kicked us out! I’m totally fine with checking ID’s, but it’s not like it’s a strip club or anything! It was very clear that this guy didn’t want us as customers as soon as he approached our table.

Good service and fair priced small plates. Both the beet salad and baked brie were tasty, yet simply made. The house cocktail, a whisky sour was delicious. Friendly staff and laid back environment.

Great atmosphere and wonderful service.
The food was reasonably priced and delicious, we had the black and blue burger which was very tasty. I will be back for sure soon.

Love the atmosphere and the drink selection at this dimly lit, cozy cocktail bar.
Bartenders were friendly and knowledgable, and came up with good suggestions when I was ordering a particular style of whiskey cocktail.
Just a heads up though that if they get busy at night, they stop table service and you just go to the bar to order. Not a big deal but can be confusing if it’s your first time there.

I have never in my life had such openly hostile & blatantly rude service as I did tonight. It was our second time here after moving to the neighborhood a few months ago. The first time our experience was fine. We had decent service & tasty food which is all we really care about. Both of us have worked in restaurants before so our expectations for service are pretty low & we’re pretty understanding. When we came in around 6:30 tonight (3÷20÷14), the bartender (tall, long-​haired brunette) took our drink order & then never asked or gave us the opportunity to order food. She then went & sat on the back counter of the bar & was completely engrossed in her phone & clearly did not care about anything else going on around her. So I walked up to the bar (while she stayed seated on the counter), ordered an appetizer & 2 entrees, & sat back down. And then we waited… long enough to know that our wings were not coming as an appetizer. In the meantime, the table behind us got their food. She dropped it off & sauntered away which is obviously her style. The girl at the table had to get up, approach her at the bar, & ask for napkins & silverware. Par for the course. At some point, my husband managed to grab her attention long enough to ask for another beer while she smacked her gum in his face. Finally she brought our wings out. She brought over a caddy of condiments, set it on the table, pulled the napkins out, & threw them on the table after which she took the caddy with her. WTF? I then asked her for silverware which she was clearly not happy about. But my next request?!? That put her completely over the edge. How dare I ask for appetizer plates? What an ass I am! She was visibly put out by my ridiculous request for plates. Our entrees arrived about 2 minutes later as we suspected & they were brought out by a nice gentleman that worked in the kitchen. He told us that he would drop more fries for us because the ones we had were too dark. How considerate. The rest of our time consisted of her being openly hostile towards us when she wasn’t mesmerized by her phone while I tried my hardest to ignore her as much as possible so I did not make a scene. When the tortuous experience had run its course & she returned after running our card, she slammed the receipt & pen on the table without so much as a thanks. Today was the first & hopefully last time either of us have ever not tipped someone. I feel ashamed, but she did not deserve even $ 0.01 of our money. My advice to the owner/​manager of this establishment? Hire people based on their skills, not their looks. Hope she’s worth it!

I miss the dive bar style and prices of O’Brien’s. I went here to try it out and just had beer ($ 5…). Nothing to write home about. My friend had a mixed drink off their menu and it was TERRIBLE. It was supposed to have ginger beer in it, but all I could taste was a cough-​syrup flavor. The bartender didn’t even make the drink in front of us. I’ll give the place another shot to try thte food, but probably won’t order one of their specialty drinks.

I don’t get the point of this place. I’m assuming the food is good, because it seems most like a «dinner and a drink» sort of place.
The place is cozy enough, and nice enough, but it just lacks any real character. Decent beers on tap, and decent drinks, but nothing that compels you to return.

Love the new update. Quiet. Empty. Bartender gave us cards and he got annoyed when we were excited and cheering… When there was 2. Two people in here. Trying to make it less awakes and enjoyable. Seer bartender.
Need to market more and reach out. Game night? Something to intrigue people?

O’Briens took 8 months or so to re-​do this place. It’s great! Upscale feel. Only had a quick couple of pints but really liked the feel and reception here.
Bartender was sweet, but wasn’t sure about one of the beers, well, she didn’t have the proper tap sticker on the handle — -
I hope they do well. Craft beer selection is nice. The other Unilocalers claim the food is legit, so wouldn’t mind trying a nosh here.

Stopped in here last week to watch the Alabama vs Oklahoma game. The set up at this new place is great, they moved the bar to the back wall and put in two new TVs on the corners above the bar. Everything is dark hardwoods, there is a big chalk board telling you the specials, and it is decorated with some flowers. It’s simple and fits the neighborhood really well. The bartender was incredible friendly, had a small but solid selection of local beers, and the food was really tasty.
Started with buffalo wings. Traditional and had a nice kick to them (I asked for some extra heat when I put in the order) The menu says that you get six wings but since a few of mine were quite small I ended up with nine of them on my plate.
The burger I had was great. This is not a Wimpy Burger! All natural, hormone free, beef that was topped with bacon jelly and a fried egg. Comes with tots or fries — no you can’t have any of my tots! Geeze!
All in all, I’m really excited about this new bar and will be back in the shortest of time.
