Cosmic Monkey Comics

This is a phenomenal store with a great selection of comics organized in an easy to navigate layout. All of the recent release trade paperbacks and manga are easily accessible by the front door. New individual issues are alphabetized and displayed so every cover is visible.

Such a fun place to walk around and look at cool comics, toys, and art.
I love this place and great people that work here too.
This is a must for any comic fan in Portland area!

This is a great shop and the staff was super helpful for comic novice like me. I found what I was looking for and found a ton interesting books for future shopping. Please go through and find something good to read.

Cosmic Monkey Comics has been a bookmark for me for quite some time, but as Portland was never on my itinerary, I didn’t have the chance to visit. 2015 is the year that finally brought me here, and let me tell you: geeks/​nerds/​comic book enthusiasts of the world, make a point of coming here!
They have an absolutely fantastic selection of:
+ Themed t-​shirts
+ Comic books (like, blow-​your-​mind good)
+ Toys (or I guess, collector’s items, but I just bought a bunch of toys!)
+ Extremely knowledgeable staff
If you’re from out of town, Cosmic Monkey might be a little bit off the beaten path for you, but it’s worth the trek!

I’m not a comic book person, but OMG! I was broke one day and bored, and was like «where is a place I can go and not spend any money, the comic book store!» Well, this place blew my mind. It had everything. There is a huge selection from classic superhero comics to feminist graphic novels and self published zines, and cool toys to boot. If you’re bored, stop in, and pick up a few days worth of entertainment.

Been here once and fell in love with the toy selections because it brought back so many childhood memories with my action figures. Haven’t checked out their back issues set yet but will do in the future.

Awesome Shop!!! TONS! TONS!TONS!TONS of back issues, which in my opinion is the recipe for a great comic book shop.

I came here looking for a place that sells back issues that are about 4 years old. Apparently, I found a pretty good place to do that. The layout was very organized and spaced out. The selection was still large and full of variety. I bought the most recent issues of Convergence and 100 count of bags and boards that were priced very well. If you are into comics or comic related knick knacks, I would recommend this place as a must see.
Last Note: They don’t jack up prices of slightly old comics to unreasonable prices. w00t!

This is only the second Unilocal review I’ve ever written, but I feel like I need to share how amazing and wonderful Cosmic Monkey Comics staff is.
I had never been in a comic book store, but my five-​year-​old son is very interested in super heroes, and I’d heard about a progressive/​feminist author who I wanted to support, so we made our first trip to Cosmic Monkey last Friday. We live in the neighborhood and had heard from a neighbor who loves comic books that the store was great; I can’t really speak to the range/​back issues/​number of titles, though it seemed like they had a lot of stuff and browsing was encouraged.
What I can speak to was the awesome guy who helped us find not only the specific author I was looking for (who’s name I’d forgotten) but who also helped us find age-​appropriate comics for my son. The most amazing thing was he looked through back issue after back issue of x-​men comics to make sure the issue we bought showed female characters dressed in non-​objectifying clothing. I didn’t specifically ask for that — he just picked up from our conversation that that would be important to me. THAT is customer service. Way to go Cosmic Monkey, you’re doing it right.

Wow, awesome customer service here. I emailed them in the middle of the day asking about stock for a particular issue. They got back to me right away AND held it for me until I could get there after work! I’m not even a regular customer or anything and they did that for me. (I totally WOULD be a regular customer if I lived closer!)
The shop itself is great too. Enormous and spacious with tons of comics, books, toys, clothes, all kinds of cool nerdy stuff.
Will definitely be back!

Great place to spend some free time. Kids love it and so do adults. Huge variety of everything you might want at reasonable prices. They are helpful and friendly too! They support the community and are worth the trip out of the suburbs! Easy parking off of NE 52^nd Ave., behind the business. Great food carts near by. Our family can’t wait to go back and browse the store and grab a bubble tea from one of the food carts on the way home!

One of our first stops when we were visiting Portland. We were a little spoiled by one of the comic shops in our area but this one was excellent. Great selection, clean, friendly, easy to navigate. Would defiantly shop here if I lived in the area.

Oh my goodness gracious, this was by far the best comic book store I have ever been to. Such a fun environment with wonderful comics, books, t-​shirts, geeky goodies, posters, and knick knacks for any comic book/​animé/​nerd culture lover. The store was huge and had the best collection of comics I have ever seen, not to mention the prices are amazing and beyond fair. Amazing quality $ 3 posters? The rarest of graphic novels for reasonable prices? Great employees? Sign me up. I didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back a million times, beyond impressive. Also, one of the employees understood my parks and rec. reference, which just topped off the entire experience. Thanks Cosmic Monkey!

This is the place for that comic lover you know. Tons of Action Figures, Comics and even items to protect the Precious from the elements. There are some cool hand drawn pictures of space monkeys on the wall. I know a young artist that should have his drawings on their wall soon.

Huge selection of trade paperbacks, 90s action figures, and an enormous backroom with back issues. This is the largest comics store that I have been to. As a comics collector I didn’t see much of a selection dedicated to valuable comics but I still give this place 5 stars because of the kind owner and the fact that you can see the dedication and love invested in this store.

This place is great for adults and kids. I am very happy to have a great comic book store within walking distance. My son especially loves to come here after we have dinner at the nearby food park.

This place always has every graphic novel/​comic you want and didn’t know you wanted. They carry all of the people you probably want to read from Image, Top Shelf, etc and lots of small publisher/​no publisher stuff as well. I walked in and was super surprised to see something by one of my friends the last time I was there because I’ve never been able to get it anywhere else.
They have really unpretentious people working there that won’t make you feel weird for wanting the new Forever Alone comics, and will instead bring you around to where they sell the rest of the Liz Princes (as if I didn’t already have them all, duh). They support you no matter your taste.
They’ve got a lot of other really dope stuff like posters, t-​shirts, and also figurines for those a little more into things than I am (they don’t judge but I probably will). There is so much art here, its a good way to spend some time no matter if you like comics or not.

If anyone happens to run into any rude or «Snaggle-​Toothed» Nerds, please forgive them. We Comic Fanboys are just Passionate about our hobby, and all these comic book movies inflate our ego a little.

Buying comic books is a lot like buying sex toys. It’s a little overwhelming and can be shameful, what with all the cagey creepers and sexual frustration about. If you can’t recite the oral history of Marvel or (heaven forfend) want to ask a question, you may be set upon by angry, snaggle-​toothed nerds. What’s a girl to do?

Cosmic Monkey is bright and open with knowledgeable and non-​judgmental shopkeeps. I love the way it’s organized, by genre instead of author. I walked out with exactly what I was looking for a «science fictiony, dystopian story with a female heroine and a little romance». It was a really fun shopping experience and I will most certainly be back.

Just a HUGE amount of comics, sci-​fi stuff, fantasy stuff and comic related stuff in here. Books, figures of all shapes and sizes, comic collection accessories (sleeves, boxes, etc.) and much much more.
Really a fun store to walk around and find some awesome reads. Super nice people work here, too.
The store is so huge I wandered for awhile yesterday and couldn’t find what I was initially looking for (but found a lot of other cool stuff). When I asked, they immediately knew they DID have what I wanted and they helped me find it.
