Was my favourite place in Portland until i had a soup on Monday — which was served luke warm and tasted like mashed potato with green in it(was meant to be leek and potato), also my coffee and two other coffees i saw served next to me were all served overflowing and spilling into the saucer — no finesse, nt sure whats happened this place used to be great.

My coworkers picked up a salad for me and brought it back to me at the office. The kale salad was $ 10 and the portion was so small that I knew instantly I was ripped off. The place needs to adjust its pricing and learn how to properly cost food or your wise customers will only be customers for a single visit. Highly disappointed. I will never eat here again.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich and I could see they were actually cooking the egg in a pan over a burner with a spatula. It did take a few minutes to get my sandwich, but it was quite good. No microwaved egg patties here.

I went into Commissary today for the first time. Really didn’t know what I wanted so I asked what was recommended. Man am I glad I did! Had Lights with sausage and jalapeño jam. It was amazing! The scone was perfectly cooked, eggs were fluffy, the whole thing was delish! Had it with an Americano air lait. I will for sure go back when in that neighborhood.

My fave local coffee shop for work and coffee. Their décor and the bright interior make it a real fun place to work, not to mention their excellent breakfast food and very good coffee. I am a regular here!

Very cute little coffee shop, the mirrors, flowers, tables etc all add to the charm. We just happened to be visiting a shop next door and popped in for a coffee. Delicious and creamy, however it was served in a take away cup when I was clearly going to sit in, taken my coat off, sat my things at a table before ordering. That really is one of my pet hates… I want coffee in a coffee cup! They also serve soup and sandwiches too which I think is a nice addition.

Bright, well lit space in this older building. There are big windows on the north and east walls. Built-in benches line these walls and there’s a half-dozen or so two tops against these benches. There’s a big, high top table(okay, actually two pushed together) in the middle of the space, Work friendly space — I count five other folks in here on laptops right now, and there’s outlets under the benches. Wasn’t feeling coffee today, and just had an English Breakfast tea. Standard loose leaf, brewed in a hottle.

This place was my favorite café stop on my recent trip to Portland. We came in for a coffee, but were attracted to their breakfast sandwiches. Somehow my order got lost in the shuffle, and they immediately made me a new one and gave me a complimentary coffee! They were super friendly and my sandwich was delicious. I also had one of the best dark roasts I’ve ever had: the Sisters Black Butte Gold. Wow! Definitely recommending this place to anyone I know who’ll be visiting Portland.

Love the cowboy cookie and biscuit brunch sandwich. Cute ambiance, wifi, good drinks and food. One of my favorite coffee spots in this neighborhood.

Great customer service and a wonderful cup of coffee can be found here. My Americano was as perfect as it gets. I can’t wait to come back and try their food!

Ordered the dark roast coffee and whiskey caramel scone. Yum! Great coffee and the scone was delicious — flaky, buttery and tasty. Very friendly staff and I liked the aesthetics of Commissary. Would definitely come back.

We were staying in the area and this place came up on my Unilocal search. I am sooo glad it did! First of all, charm for days. I loved how this place was put together, from the coffee machine to the signage! If I lived in the area, this would be my regular coffee place for sure! My coffee was good, the service was great, and the scone, though more rich than typical was fantastic! I highly recommend a visit!

I, too, am vegetarian… I went to the Commissary a week or so ago with a couple friends. Lots of light, airy ambiance, though we ended up with an outdoor table, it was such a beautiful day! I was most impressed with how friendly all of the staff was, including the owner. I felt very welcome. Prices are normal. My sandwich was great(have to order chips separately). Lots of possibilities for us veggies. And hella lot more parking than 23rd.

This is a great coffeeshop. Fantastic mocha and very delicious, giant scones and the staff is very friendly. There are a few tables inside and outside as well as a smallish communal table. There is free WiFi and I saw a bunch of people working on their laptops. Great atmosphere.

I am updating my review since my first visit many months ago. I am now a regular and always receive friendly service and love the breakfast sandwich! The business works hard from baking the biscuits and preparing excellent food for the breakfast and lunch crowd. Great place to grab a coffee or quick bite to eat.

This a review by a vegetarian Excellent scone for $ 3(as it should be for $ 3). The cherry-almond was very fatty and flaky. This is from the school of «a scone is a biscuit with a just little sugar»; it graduated magna cum loudly. It’s only PDX rival is Mizz Zumstein’s but that’s more of a crumbly but not dry buttermilk tang kind of scone. Commissary is a good small space with a high ceiling and lots of light. Feels less hectic than other offerings over on 21st or 23rd. Coffee and basic breakfast items not yet sampled.

Very cool space, in part because of the building’s history. I like a good back story, check out here One of the best latte’s you’ll find in Portland, and boy do you have choices! I’m making my way through them and I think this is going to be a favorite in the Alphabet/NW neighborhood. Can’t wait to go back to try the food!

The scones here are amazing! They are so light it’s almost like I’m not eating any calories at all. The coconut one is soo deltoid but I’ve also tried the chocolate cherry one recently. I would love to see a berry(raspberry, marion berry, or blueberry) scone with honey glaze… I can only imagine the yumminess! Looking forward to my next visit to try another scone flavor and get some tasty coffee.

I’ve heard such great things about this little neighborhood gem and it lived up to the praise. The iced coffee was notably delicious… the flavor profile I felt was much better than anything I’ve tried before and I’m a Dragonfly girl. Ordered the egg, cheese, bacon breakfast biscuit and it was really good. It’s nice to have a little spot that does something different than a muffin or scone(although pastries are here). I’ll be back for the iced coffee… service was quick but I wouldn’t say they were overly nice or welcoming, I love when snobby is trendy ;) . UPDATE: After the owner contacted me expressing their desire to be a shining gem in their neighborhood and strive to deliver the best experience to their customers, you can see I’ve checked in 3 more times since. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. And… well…3’s a charm in my book. My experiences were all pleasant, and much friendlier than the first visit. Also, still one of my favorite iced coffee stops. Cheers!

Portland sure has changed in the six years since I resided here. And while new business are popping up faster than pimples on a pre-teen, something that has remained reliable throughout PDX’s growth spurt is that many of these new ventures are small, owner-operated businesses serving up food that punch way above their weight. Commissary is exactly this, and a welcome addition to that strange bit of NW-no-man’s-land that was previously only visited by people trying to find Urban Waxx. Not only is the café’s design a beautiful, 20s-style art-deco tribute to the building’s Hollywood history, but holy cow the food is delicious. You can’t eat the breakfast sandwich(fluffy homemade biscuits, eggs, cheese and either bacon or sausage) or the Crawford sando(turkey, rhubarb chutney, havarti, butter lettuce on como) and not actively fight the urge to head there every single day. The difficult decision really just becomes breakfast or lunch, so essentially, not if but when. The super fun, welcoming staff and fantastic tunes don’t hurt, either.
