Okay so this place sounded pretty cool after reading some of the reviews and what sold me to come here was that confessional photobooth. My friends and I came here on MLK day, which was a Monday and we did not think it would be crowded but I was mistaken. We came around 11pm and there was a bouncer who checked our ID before getting in. My friends and I walked in and everyone was just listening super intently at the singers that were performing. It was some pretty weird shit. I guess because we’re not hipster, we found it not entertaining. Anyways, we got to the bar and ordered an Irish coffee drink. Took one sip and it had the weirdest after taste ever. I asked one of the bartenders if we could switch and he was super nice about it. Thanks dude! Kudos to you! I had the Gates to Heaven Hill, which was pretty tasty. We then went to the Confession Booth to find that you have to pay $ 2.99 for a picture. I was a little buzzed so eff it. I think that if you are going to charge people, at least let it print out hard copy but I thought it was pretty cheap that they just send you a freaking link. Usually, photobooths have a little tv screen that lets you preview where you are in the picture and to get ready. This photobooth had a screen but freaking NO preview and NO countdown. So if you’re going to take a picture in here, make sure you get ready right away and stare into the DSLR camera that is in the bottom glass window case. It took 2 picture taking to realize that it was actually taking pictures. You get a total of 4 shots so think of 4 poses before taking it! I think that if there was an actual preview and you actually receive a picture, then this place would be semi decent. After we were done, we got out and they were actually playing decent music. You gotta be a hipster when you come here because my friends and I were decked out in Nike gear!

The name of this is very misleading. I recently moved here and our first Sunday here we went to mass here. We came all dressed excited for spiritual enlightenment… And let’s just say we got it. Being so bummed by the mistake my wife and I decided to have a couple Cocktails, which ended up being the best Cocktails I have ever had. We ended up reading the entire bible to a drunk Muslim man next to us. He claims he is going to convert. I would love to thank«Church» for the greatest Sunday mass ever.

I love this spot and wish I had found it sooner! It’s a great corner bar with lots of windows on either side facing the 2 streets. Kind of smaller, with a dark cozy atmosphere. You have to order at the bar but you can sit at many tables or at high top chairs along the window. The service was friendly and quick. My husband and I went here for happy hour and they had $ 5 punch(to die for! some combo of ginger and honey and gin), as well as $ 5 food specials from mac-n-cheese to burgers to chicken salad sandwiches and more. We feasted for only about $ 15 in food. When we went it was a SUPER rainy day out close to the holidays so the place was pretty empty — perhaps an anomaly based on the other reviews? I’m not sure but willing to test my theory when I go back to order some more yummy punch :)

This place has the best gluten free chicken tenders. The cocktails and Monday night karaōke are pretty good too… Oh yeah and the photo booth!

Amazing music. Fun crowd. Door guy Josh was very polite. Had great service from the dude bartender w/a beard. But the girl bartender was either over whelmed or had no experience and looked annoyed that she messed up my drink order. Great atmosphere but maybe they should change up the bartenders.

So normally I love church! Thus the 3 stars. The music is good the ambience is good. If you don’t mind waiting in line for 25 minutes on the weekend it’s a chill spot to go to. But I’m pretty disappointed from the other night. So me and a friend were attending a birthday party at church. It was a Tuesday night, fairly early so there were less than 30 people in the bar tops. We were pretty hungry and normally order chicken strips but decided to get burgers. We got the burgers fairly quick but when we cut them open realized they were not edible. They looked as if they were on the grill for 5 minutes then plated. Rare is fine but they were still purple!!. So after 15 minutes of flagging a staff member down we asked for well done. Idk if it was he couldn’t hear my friend or how she said it but 20 minutes go by and he only brings one… So at this point we just cut it in half and share. It’s still rare… Whatever at least it’s not purple. When taking one bite The burger literally fell apart in my hands because of the extreme amount of mayonnaise or some white sauce on it. We decide to just call it quits and leave. So pretty much 10 dollars for a portion of over salted fries.

I came here for happy hour on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Mid 20’s to early 30’s crowd that evening and the place is well lit. They even have outdoor seating if it’s not pouring down rain. I tried the $ 5 punch which turned out to be quite spicy but good. They also had a $ 5 food specials menu so we tried the gluten free chicken strips and the Mac & Cheese. I could not even tell they were gluten free, very impressed by that. It came with a spicy mustard that was very unique. The Mac & Cheese was sooo good, it must be cooked in bacon grease or something and comes as shells. Very good happy hour value and they have a very friendly staff.

Monday November 2nd, my group of friends spend a few hours here at church. Two bartenders working, a guy with a beard and a ball cap and another guy wth glasses. The guy with glasses gave some rather terrible service, ignoring us standing there waiting to order. Finally took a drink order and before we could get a chance to order food, right back to ignoring us. Clearly standing with menus open at the bar waiting to get our order in. Finally we get our order in and we wait about 30ish minutes for a Mac and cheese as we’re watching the people who ordered after us eat. When we finally closed out, I left a $ 2 tip on a $ 40 tab, reason being I received some pretty lousy service. I’m out front with my friends smoking a cigarette and the bartender with the glasses walks up to my group and proceeds to say «Who’s the one with the cottage cheese ass? Oh yeah, you.» Pointed at me and walked away. My friends went inside and asked what that was about, he stated he saw our photo booth picture on Instagram and he was pissed about my tip. Honestly your tip was a reflection of your service prior to this interaction And now I honestly wish none of us tipped at all. Body shaming because you’re angry about a tip is probably one of the lowest things I’ve ever encountered and I work in the service industry myself. Needless to say, I will probably never return to this bar.

Friends told me that we were going to church and I had no idea that they were talking about a bar. This bar was super busy, being that it was located on such a dead street on a Saturday night. Luckily, we got there early before there was a line(around 945). A church themed bar? So. Clever. They even have a little photo booth that’s called the confessions booth! Haha Music was awesome, drinks were cheap & well-made. Definitely coming back here again! #EatDrinkRepent

I wanted to go out somewhere that played good music, people dancing, and bartenders that slinged good cocktails(you know, the kind of drinks that take more than 5 seconds to make), and Church delivert! I had a great time and everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves on a Friday night. The ambiance is quant and intimate, but the bouncers did a good job of ensuring the place didn’t get uncomfortably crowded. The next time I want to vibe to some great music, people watch, and drink delicious drinks, I know where to come.

This is my favorite bar in the neighborhood! The theme is fun but isn’t overdone. There is plenty of nice outdoor seating and comfy seating inside. The bartender has been very busy every time I’ve gone there but she always still manages to get drinks out fast. Their happy hour goes until 7pm, and has fantastic deals! We got hushpuppies and chicken sliders. The hushpuppies came with this AMAZING voodoo sauce and they were so plump and perfectly fried. The church burger is also on happy hour and it is a very solid burger if you are in the mood for some beef. The fries need some seasoning, they are pretty plain and tasteless. The only food item here I would pass on. I got this fizzy pink cocktail which was nice for the happy hour price but was a bit small for the regular price. There are plenty of decently priced non-specialty drinks for when happy hour is over. They also have a daily punch, on happy hour as well, that has been great every time I have tried it. Their photobooth is also iconic and a lot of fun– just wish it gave physical copies!

Group of us met for birthday drinks on Saturday night. This was my first time so I was pleased with the walking distance from my place in the Lloyd District. Nice design, fun use of a «confessional booth», decent DJ. Bar tender was quick and my Bourbon Old Fashioned was well done but $ 9…hmmm?. Anyway, the thing that struck me the most about this place was the not-so-classy people hang’n out that night. Hella hoochies in that place stumbling around like drunk idiots which of course drew all the slobbering boys. Understandable but my group was growing in size and we had the large middle table that seats six. The hoochies kept trying to move in on us since there were literally dozens of them. Finally had to tell one of the more aggressive ones to move on. We hung out for a couple hours then ditched. There was a line out the door so I guess they’ve hit on something.

This place was super cool. Loved the décor, natural lighting, and the cathedral theme going on. The crowd and staff was really chill. I would go back for a night out with friends, great food and drinks!

Cool looking bar, chill inside and burger was great! Kitchen is open all night which is cool because we were hungry at 1:00AM. Confessions booth aka photo booth is cool, although we didn’t go inside. Bar was pretty empty, music was not to my liking that particular night but there are different dj’s every night according to the website. Bar tender was nice.

Perfect bar for mid-day drinks and lunch. Love the ambiance here. Open space, lots of tables, and friendly staff and bartender. I don’t drink alcohol so I asked the bartender to make a tasty drink without it. He made a raspberry and lime ginger beer and it was delicious. My friend got the National drink and it was AMAZING. For food we ordered the frankfurter sandwich which came with fries for 6 bucks on happy hour! We also ordered hush puppies which were soft and moist, almost the consistency of donuts and not grainy like others I’ve tried, paired with a sweet honey sauce. I will definitely be back. Looks like Church attracts the young and old alike which is a hard thing to accomplish. You order at the bar but very prompt service so don’t be intimidated. Definitely try the house punch! It’s different all the time and all delicious plus, you can’t beat 5 bucks for a cocktail! Before you go, don’t forget to visit confessions(a photo booth through the curtains in the back right corner). 2.50 for a session and you get the photos right to your email! Super fun place!

Church is something that I loathed as a child. All the annoyingly stupid rigmarole everyone did as habit and ritual, blindly following what the priest said or did. BORING! Fuck that, church sucks. Wait, what!?! Sorry, where were we? Oh yeah, Unilocal review. Got it. Church, the bar, is awesome! I love to go to here for some serious drinking. You hear me? None of that casual sipping you do while chit-chatting with friends, No! I see some here doing that… rather quaint but meagerly pedestrian. They have serious Effing drinks for serious Effing drinking. Crafty goddamn cocktails for people who wanna taste the devil in their drink and feel good about their intoxication. I think they have a decent décor here. Not too pretentious, just pretentious enough to keep stupid hipster kids away; they are so annoying. Order any fracking thing you want and these bartenders can make it with the superpowers of a comic book superhero or villain. I think they have food. They must, the olcc demands they offer it –whatever. Drink my friends! Drink until thine gait become wobbled and thine vision is the power of two! Drink!

I came here for happy hour on a Monday. Not super crowded, left just as Free Music Monday was starting to pick up. Hipster vibe: Yes, but it’s almost like they’re trying too hard? Cocktails: Mine was great. Service: The guy that took our order was friendly and drinks came quickly. Not gonna be a regular spot for me, but would definitely return if a friend wants to check it out.

Church set the tone for what would be an adventurous and memorable weekend in Portland. From the second we set food inside the door, the staff worked fast and diligently to make us feel welcomed and taken care of. That was the perfect way to start a fun filled trip. Secondly, the drinks were properly made and poured well. The quality was evident in the taste. Lastly, its theme represents something so wholesome but in a jovial manner. Church, who wouldn’t want to partake in something like that? Now aside from all that, the food was just as good as everything mentioned. I enjoyed my buffalo chicken sandwich and my girlfriend’s chicken tenders were even better. They had a soft but crunchy batter to go with that moist chicken. This place would forecast what Portland would be like and it did not fail to deliver.

Church is a definitely a hopping place on a Saturday night. Came here at about 11pm on a Saturday with 4 other friends. We walked in the door and were immediately running into people: the place was packed! The music was good: upbeat hip hop from the 90s and 2000s. Once my friends and I grabbed some beers we headed over to the«confessional,» aka the photo booth they have. Yes, you have to pay for the pictures, but it’s such fun concept that it’s worth it. We loved it! Do not come here if you are on a first date, because there is absolutely no way you will be able to hear one another talk. Also, don’t come here with a big group, no room! Every table is taken, standing room only. And while the music is great, you cannot and should not try and dance. When I was here a group of obnoxious girls were dancing(when there was obviously no room to do so) causing them to run into people and spill people’s drinks — rude and inconsiderate. Some of the patrons are kind of rude and snotty though. A few people were rude with try to get around others. Yeah, it’s crowded, no shit, people can’t maneuver too well, but be nice and say«excuse me» and«sorry» if you bump into people. Overall not a bad place, I would like to return when it’s a little less crowded though. Take aways: –upbeat place –cool atmosphere –Good music
