Oh how I love Cannon’s!!! I actually come here more than I check in but that is in the process of changing. Since earlier January I’ve been wanting BBQ so I finally decided to come eat. I drove over on a week night about 750/8pm, while I was driving, I also was calling and no answer :(so I figured they were busy and couldn’t get to the phone. Well when I pulled up, the place was dark and closed! I was already a little irritated because I wanted to call my order in so it could be ready and now I pull up but they were closed-I was hot/livid/mad/flamed lol you get my point… not only was closing time advertised until 9PM, they didn’t have a sign as to why business was closed a full hour early. So last night I decided to try them again because I was hungry, wanted BBQ and they better not had been closed at 6pm or else lol… I called and placed my order. The owner«Wayne» knows me by my family name ‘SHISHI’ so he didn’t know who was calling when I said ‘ELESHIA’. When I arrived for my food and paid, he realized who I was and said«oh I didn’t know that was you», we talked a little and I also noticed he put some extra ribs on my sandwhich :) I only order 2 things from here and these choices never disappoint: the Chopped Chicken Sand and a Pork Rib sand both w/hot sauce(but only when I’m in the mood for pork)-now I was raised on the hog but since I have grown up I dont eat it as much, I eat pork about 3 times every ¾ months or so lol but when I do if its not my Dad’s ribs then I come here. Anyway, back in the car I couldn’t wait to eat(no seat belt for a few blocks smh) so I had to rip the bag open and have a rib in one hand and drive with the other. That first piece wasn’t saucey enough so I had to make myself miss a light so I could stop just to sauce it up a tad bit more(lol smh)-got that piece out the way and didn’t miss another light getting home to finish the rest. Let me tell you these ribs were sooooooooo tender and seasoned to perfection that if I didn’t have any home training or respect I would of slapped my Mama — -TWICE!!! I’m sure I would of woke up at Legacy Emanuel or Providence but the ribs almost took me there. LOL Ok here is the best part, I was full after 3 ribs and a slice of bread I had to put it up for leftovers. So now I’m in the process of ending this review because my ribs are calling my name and I’m about to pig out-all the pun intended lol Cannon’s is a good place so I suggest you try it for yourself, or if you have before go again, later! Oh, just an FYI, I’m not sure if CC/debit are accepted as I usually pay cash.

Our chicken was so sandy desert dry that even sauced it was pretty much inedible. They just let it completely dry out in their cooking process, but charged us like it was juicy and terrific… which it was not. Sad. We will not return.

These guys know BBQ! Love their pulled pork sandwich and the Brisket is divine. Tried their ribs and found them to be fantastic. I’ve been going there for almost 13 years now and would recommend them to everyone.

I’m mixed on this review, but for $ 17 I would expect much better quality. The brisket sandwich was too fatty, I threw a third of it out as it was just fat. BBQ beans weren’t bad but the potato salad was bland. I ordered the spicy BBQ sauce and if that was it someone need to inform them what spicy means.

This place is great. I get ribs and sides to go because it’s located essentially in a parking lot, but the food is outstanding. For a while I was making ribs myself but they don’t even come close to what you can get here. Solid BBQ, inexpensive, highly recommended. Good if you’re having a bunch of people over and don’t want to cook.

My gf lives in portland, I live in LA. I crave this place when I’m home. Tend to get the rib tips with hot sauce. The sauce is hot and a bit sweet. Love it. After eating there every time I visit, figured I’d write a review. The staff was friendly, had a good chat about classic cars with another patron. If you havnt had their ribs, give it a try. They care about what they do… Ribs! Corn bread muffins are also great.

Omnomnomnomnom! So good, every time I go grocery shopping at New Seasons I smell the meat smoking away. It’s intoxicating. Super authentic and I love the outside picnic style eating area. My only complaint is that I wish they had a better meat supplier. If they sourced grassfed/free range I would eat here like once a week.

Not a fan of the Bbq at all… Dry and spicy… plus they charge 2.75 for a small side that’s the size of a Dixie cup…

3.5 stars. I’m new to ‘real’ BBQ, so I can’t say how authentic it was, but it tasted decent overall. I got to try the pork ribs(decent), the beef ribs(good), the mac n cheese(mediocre), mixed greens(decent), and cornbread(ok). I asked about the potato salad, which they said it was store bought, so I didn’t get it. But this also had me question what else was not homemade, since the homemade thing is what I was looking for. I was pleased to see the owner doing the BBQing outside himself. If I was nearby again I’d try one of the sandwiches, but for now I’ll look into other BBQ in town.

I just love Cannon’s… Forget Podnah’s this is the place to go if you’re looking for quality BBQ. The ribs are fall off the bone tasty and the brisket is typically nice and juicy. If you like fat, you can specifically request some extra fatty pieces! I would highly recommend the spicy sauce and the Mac N Cheese. This isn’t the typical sit down restaurant but it also isn’t quite a food cart. There is a covered patio with some picnic tables under some heat lamps if you’re interested in dining there.

Stopped in here for lunch with my boyfriend… Amazing! Ordered the brisket and the chicken dinner, with beans, Mac salad, potato salad, and Mac and cheese. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The chicken fell off the bone! The owner is a great guy, super friendly! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!

Delicious — definitely the best BBQ in portland. The chopped chicken and chopped beef sandwiches are incredible. The potato salad, corn bread and cole slaw are all amazing. Very Very good. Been to other places in Portland that are supposed to be good and this place is 10 times better.

I enjoy great bbq. Living in Texas for 13 years spoiled me. I’ve been here for ten months now and have only found so so bbq. Then I came here. Cannon’s calls itself Portland style bbq. I wasn’t sure what that was. I know of three great regions for good bbq. Texas bbq and to some extent Oklahoma, with its dry rub and thick tomato based sauces. North Carolina with its tangy vinegar based sauces and Kansas City with its hybrid of the two. So what is Portland style? I asked and found out that the original owner was from down south, possibly Texas, and then he lived in California for awhile. California bbq??? Apparently this created a Kansas City style sauce but not as much of a vinegar tang to it. The reviews hear widely vary. I am very picky about the good stuff especially since I do it myself. I was talking to the folks there and asked about what they do, wood they use, etc. Hickory is a good mild wood and gives subtle smoke flavor. They also use mesquite briquettes for the grill. They do use a mild spice rub on the ribs, but I believe they want the pork to shine. It does. I got the pulled pork special with a side of slaw and the hot version of the sauce. $ 7.00. The pork was tender and they put just. enough sauce on it so it wasn’t smothered. I also got a surprise, they brought out one rib for me to try. Very cool. As I said earlier, the meat was shining in this juicy rib. The spice rub was very mild, I’d have liked a bit more of a kick, but nevertheless, I enjoyed it. I will gripe a bit about the prices. They were steep unless you were getting a special. I’ve been told this place has been here longer than the New Seasons Market that occupies this rest of the area. I guess they are doing something right. So far the best bbq I’ve had up here in Portland. And that’s tough. Enjoy.

For bbq in Portland, it doesn’t get better than Cannon’s. I’ve been to Padnahs, russel st, slabcity, etc. As a Kansas City man, Cannon’s is got it. The rest are good, but not the best.

Let me start off with saying, «I Regina have come from a very southern style cooking kind of people» meaning we know what is off the chain BBQ and what is I’m to damn lazy to give shit how or what I serve the public any more BBQ! Unfortunately his place is of the later. When I arrived I thought ok this elderly gentleman probably really knows his stuff, been cooking for years and is going to really sock it up for me and my boyfriend. Huh, was I wrong … First off when I stand and watch you heat up every side in the microwave and even the meat that you claim is fresh BBQ that just made me want to ask for my money back… Here is the thing, I understand how it is hard to keep food at a certain temperature and fresh for instant serving to the public, however if you are not even prepared for dinner service with hot food you need to hang it up! If you don’t have someone else in your family that wants to take over your BBQ business at least sell it to someone that is passionate enough to at least have hot food and BBQ ready for their customers. I could critique and go crazy on this entire experience that took 25 minutes to get my Togo dinners(for the fact everything had to be heated up in the microwave) but it’s a waste of my energy, this just kills me. This is Portland freaking Oregon, if your going to do any restaurant here people you gotta bring it and be passionate about your soap box you stand on! I digress … Heading to Stella tacos on Alberta because I all ready know the food in the car sucks! Smh

It is 28 damn degrees out. Stepping out of the New Seasons, also in the parking lot, the sweet sweet smokey aroma from Cannon’s entices me to come a little closer. I drop $ 3.75 for three smoked BBQ wings. Mild sauce. And I waited. It is butt cold today. Butt cold. I waited some more. The smells coming out of this place are just magical. Finally…the guy says«All right, young man. Your wings are ready.» I get in my car and race home. They just smell so good. If it wasn’t so freakin’ cold, I would have torn into these at one of the outside tables. So simple and so delicious. Three wings, perfectly sauced. And two slices of «Wonder-like» bread to sop up the sauce. Which you do. You damn sure don’t wanna waste it. This is the best $ 3.75 you can spend at a restaurant in Portland.

Apparently I’m on a BBQ kick… even though I don’t particularly like BBQ. That being said, I do like the veggie options that Cannon’s provides — really ridiculous collard greens, delicious mac n cheese, excellent corn, beans, and cornbread. We also tried the chicken sandwich(pulled, I think?) and WOW, that was excellent as well. Cannon’s is conveniently located 5 minutes from us. Walking distance. I’m going to try and resist the urge to order cornbread when I walk by today. Wish me luck.
