Buckman Terrace Apartments

It would be a decent place to live but it’s run by a bunch of clueless people who never take action on any issue. Hope you never need something fixed because your request will most certainly ‘fall between the cracks’ and never be answered. Hope you never need to get your packages because the person that should be on site is never around. Hope you like the sight and smell of dog piss everywhere in the building because the dog owners that live here don’t care. Hope you like searching for a place to park for 30 minutes after you get home from work because that’s what you’ll be doing in this neighborhood thanks to all the transplants. Hope you like hearing your neighbors fucking at 3 am because that’s why you’ll hear due to the paper thin walls. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else.

Great place. The north end of the 1^st floor is full of dogs, so if you end up moving in there, expect the fragrant dog smells coming from various apartments. Occasional dog pee and poop smells in the elevator, but they have been pretty ok about cleaning them up eventually. The other floors seem like there is less pet owners living there. If you live in an apartment overlooking Sandy street, you might be a little toasty in the summers. Living on the first floor overlooking the soccer field is nice because the trees make it way cooler in the summer. If you move into an apartment overlooking Vodoo Donuts expect to put up w some noise. Other than that, the place is generally clean and quiet. Certain neighbors may enjoy a sigarette or a joint every once in a while in their apartments or the garage. Sometimes they smell things up pretty good, despite not being allowed, but that’s only been an occasional issue. Generally a nice and mostly clean and quiet place to live.

I’ve lived in a lot of different apartment complexes, and Buckman Terrace is definitely the best that I have lived in.
I will review all of the basics about this complex, since I assume people reading this review are potentially looking to move in.
First, the location is great. It’s across the street from several bus lines including the 12, 19 and 20. So getting anywhere is very easy, especially downtown (which is a 9 minute bus ride). And you can walk or easily drive to the MAX at Lloyd (15 minute walk/​5 min drive).
Besides the convenience of transportation, there is plenty to do in this area. East Burnside is a few blocks over, and within a 5 – 15 minute walk, you have a plethora of bars and restaurants to choose from like EastBurn, Fire on the Mountain, Screen Door, the 28^th St Food Pod and Laurelhurst Theatre. Not to mention you can easily walk to Lloyd Center Mall, and you have VooDoo Donut II, Big Town Hero and See See’s Coffee next door. Whole Foods, Fred Meyer and Safeway are all very close, too. I love this complex so much because of the location. I can walk to my doctors office, a pet store, Plaid Pantry or a grocery store all within 10 minutes.
The apartments are a good size and there are a few different layout options to choose from. They aren’t the biggest apartments, but they are very cozy. Although I wish I had more closet space and a little bit bigger kitchen, I can’t complain. The first floor apartments also have balconies.
There is a laundry room on each floor with 3 washers and 3 dryers. I very rarely have a problem with doing laundry because they are full. There is also a Community Room and a terrace on the top floor. There is a small fitness center, but it’s very small. Only one treadmill, bike and elliptical.
I have lived here a year and I have never had anything break down or need Maintenance for anything, except one time when the hallway air conditioning was leaking into our kitchen. They resolved the issue very quickly.
Nichole, the Manager, is wonderful, friendly and professional.
Apartments come with a dishwasher and fridge. No microwave. Heat but no A/​C. The hallways, community room, and fitness center are all air conditioned though. There is underground parking for an extra fee. We just park on the street, which isn’t really a problem unless it’s late at night.
The area is very safe. There are always people around. Our backyard is Buckman Field. This is great for running or walking around the track, and for taking your dog outside easily. It’s a very dog-​friendly community. Dog and dog owners are nice and respectful. I don’t see a problem with people cleaning up after their pets.
The apartments are very quiet, too. We never hear anyone. I even had a neighbor who used to play the Drums, and the noise didn’t bother me. The neighbors here are fantastic. A few of us even created a little Community Potluck!
My rent was only raised $ 25 after a year, which is not bad!
Our apartment was SPOTLESS when we moved in. And they have a cleaning crew that cleans the building frequently.
I love living here!

My husband and I just signed a lease with Buckman Terrace and it looks beautiful. We really aren’t fans of apartment complex living, but this is a smaller complex with mostly one bedroom apartments. It is right next to Buckman Park, which leaves a free open view to downtown Portland, as well as providing a baseball diamond and running track just steps out your door.
It is convenient to several bus lines and keeps you right in the middle of things on the Central East side of Portland. The property manager, Shauna, was very friendly and helpful and set up a viewing for us right on the spot.
One downside is that the apartments go fast so you have to jump on one when it’s available, but in such a great location it’s easy to see why they go fast.
