WORSTHAIRCUTOFMYLIFE First off, When I walked in, Barber man was sitting down watching tv. He made a show of checking his appointment book, and acted like he was doing me a favor. When he agreed to give me a cut, from there on out he barely had 5 words for me as most of his attention was on some action movie on their television, or answering the phone. At least 5 times while I was in the chair. Second, I’m a fade and an even cut on top, no shaping, should be easy. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes TOPS. That includes the razor. I was in the seat at least 30 minutes. maybe 40. Third, I came in with nothing in my hair. I don’t use pomade. Hate the smell, hate the feel, hate what it does to my glasses when I slide them up on my head. Without even asking, and with my back to the mirror so I couldnt see, he slathered a load of stinky waxy goop in my hair. Fourth, either his razor was dull, he doesnt know what he’s doing, or he is a sadist. Felt like the guy was trying to remove the top two layers of skin with his razor. I ain’t a pussy, have tons of ink, and have been getting razor shaves for 30 years. This guy’s dangerous. Lastly, when he FINALLY let me have a look, my hair was totally uneven, when I pointed at some spots and asked him to fix them, her argued with my and just brushed them down, hoping the pomade would cover up his ineptitude. There were waiting customers, I didnt want to call the guy out in front of a room full of people and I had an appointment to get to, so I sucked it up, paid $ 25, which seems outrageous, and left. Sent them and email to see if they even check, no response. I wish I could give no stars. Oh yeah, and cash only? In the days of the all the many electronic payment options, ESPECIALLY in a tech savvy place like Portland, that’s total BS and just a way to dodge taxes.

There is an old english adage: «Looking good is good business.» No one does the hair business better than Bart, and no one will make you look as good as the barbers at BART’s BARBERSHOP. I started going to BART’s BARBERSHOP when i moved back to Portland in 2012. I went through the list on Unilocal and tried the other men’s barbershops in Portland including Bishop’s(blegh), Rudy’s(Meh), Rooks(Aaaallmost there), and the catastrophe that ended up being Modern Man. None of these places could come close to matching both the real life barbershop feel or the level of craftsmanship that every single barber displays at BART’s. While the above mentioned shops try to lure you in with whiskey drinks and fancy wall art, Bart and his team of barbers have put all of their energy into making sure that their customers receive the very best version of of what they have in mind for their hair.

Ive been going to Bart’s on Mo’ for about 3 years. Good cut, good price, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Was glad to see the shop open in Kenton. The Kenton shop is larger and not as busy as the Mo shop. In spite of my complete lack of vocab and knowledge about what the heck I want, Ive gotten great cuts from Josh and Austin with not much wait and decent conversation.

This place is on point! Got my usual buzz cut, and saw a different guy, can’t remember his name, but he has long hair, awesome 70’s tinted glasses. But anyways best buzz cut I’ve ever gotten! He even went the extra mile and used the old school leather and razor around my ears and neck! He is first person that I’ve ever seen use the old school leather and blade. He rocked it like a pro, like shaving through butter. And only $ 13!!! I would call his work $ 30!!! These people know they stuff!

Went to Colt. Super friendly, and very good at what he does. Highly recommend visiting this place. Make an appt prior, and TAKECASH. Yes, they can take cards, but it is small business — so every little expense, is an expense. I wish I would have remembered that. Next time, I will.

I’ve been shopping around for barbers in Portland for the last 6 mos. I finally thought I’d found my barber at the Modern Man, but two months later he left. I found Bart’s shop on Unilocal on my day off, and I’m so happy that his shop is near my home. When I came in Bart wasn’t there, but Austin who had recently started at this shop was able to take me. I was incredibly impressed with Austin’s skill. He only used the clippers to trim over my ear. And my hair is usually a close clipper cut, and looks like it today. .however this man did that whole thing by hand with scissors. The shaping is great, and definitely better than it would have been with the clippers. He took the time to get every last piece of my haircut just right. This shop and this particular barber was such a find. I believe that I’ve found my new favorite barber. Two days later, I’m loving the way that my hair is laying and moving, and it’s one of the best beard trims I’ve had in quite a while.

Showed up for my appt at 3:00 as scheduled for a face and head shave. No one acknowledged me as I sat and waited. One of the barbers actually left. 20 minutes went by before I finally got up and said I had to go, that my appt was supposed to be at 3. The barber said he got thrown off and asked if I wanted to come back later. I said no and left. I came across town to get there in time and just feel like I was treated indifferently. There are lots of great places in town to get a shave/haircut that will respect your time and agreed upon appointment and will communicate any problems in advance. Or at least apologize and try and make it right. Hope this place works out the kinks.

So I’ve been going to the SE location since I moved to Portland in 2013. The barber’s at barts have always been great and I assure you this since I’ve received a cut from all of them. I’m glad that there’s now a location closer to me and the new place looks great! Definitely check them out if you’re in the neighborhood!

I want to like this place, but we seemed to get off on the wrong foot. I called earlier in the week to see when they would open on a Saturday. I was told 8 a.m. Saturday comes and I stopped by with my son. The shop was dark until about 10:30 a.m. We went inside and found the shop empty. The lights were on, but nobody was home. Finally some dude who was outside smoking said they wouldn’t be open for another half hour. He didn’t seem bothered that we were potential customers and walking away. We ended up at Bishops and had a great experience. I hope these folks at Bart’s figure it out, or change their name.

Welcome addition to the neighborhood! Skillfully barbered hair, comfortable environment without the pretension of some other Portland shops, good price.

Can’t beat this place. Great haircuts, fair price, and friendly staff. Their SE shop is always slammed, and I expect this location will be too. Glad they setup shop in Kenton.
