So sad they have closed down but it was the best polish food I’ve had they’re haluski(beef stroganoff) was my favorite dish and the service was awesome. They may be closed down but they will be doing catering instead and also service their sandwiched. Can’t wait for then to open back up I will definitely be back!

Rich, delicious comfort food prepared from scratch and a welcoming staff of genuine folks who make their customers feel like family. As if that weren’t enough to keep me coming back, there’s the cheese curds – best I’ve had anywhere. Ditto, the pierogi and the stroganoff. And of course, amazing cocktails expertly crafted by barman extraordinaire Christian(even a simple screwdriver here tastes like a ray of sunshine… the fresh squeezed OJ can’t be beat). Cheers to Bar Dobre! You will be greatly missed by your SE Portland neighbors. We eagerly anticipate Chef Stan’s next venture, Stan’wiches, opening later this summer.

Heartbroken to see this wonderful dining spot will be closing its doors on June 7th. The vegetarian pierogis rocked my world, and I doubt I’ll soon find a replacement of comparable deliciousness. A moment of silence for Bar Dobre, please…

Still a five star from me even though service was lagging a little. Friendly server. Great food. Always. Paleo options with all the sausages and sauerkraut, salads, burger. I love this little place. Classy yet casual and always enjoy every morsel of food on my plate. Love.

Ever since I went to Poland with my mother, I’ve been obsessed. I’m not so sure why. Maybe the good food I had there? In any case, enter bar dobre. For starters, how can you go wrong with fried cheese curds? And stuffed cabbage rolls? Or pierogies? How about them sausages? So yeah. Welcome to a little piece o’ Poland, in pdx.

Wandered in on a rainy day, and I’m very happy I did! I had the stuffed cabbage over kale and delicious mashed potatoes with horseradish. A nice selection of Polish beers in bottle and tap. Christian behind the bar was really great, friendly, informative, conversive. I spent probably three hours at the bar talking with him and some other customers.

Really friendly people and good ambience. The pierogi was ok. We have had better ones at other places here in Portland. Potato pancakes weren’t that great either. The GOLUMPKI was amazing. The sauce was so so delicious and the vegetarian one was stuffed with smoked eggplant and mushrooms. Yummy. The mashed potato with the sauce on top of it was so tasty. The dessert chocolate mousse was again delicious. It was so smooth and not over the top sweet. You could taste the chocolate. Only regret, wish we had ordered two instead of sharing. :P

The food here is amazing! We stumbled on this quaint restaurant on Hawthorne and we were so happy we did. I have never had Polish food before, it has a very Germanic flare to it. We had the wedzona kilbasa and the dobre pierogi. First of all you can’t go Ala cart on the Kilbasa, you have to get the plate with potato pancakes they are amazing. The kilbasa is house made and smoked and has an incredible Flavor! The pierogi is a dumpling dish with subtle but incredible flavors. And you have to have a Hevelius beer with you meal! Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. We give this place our highest recommendation!

Really good Polish food! It’s a long time coming. Portland can definitely benefit from this quaint and homey restaurant. I got one of their really tasty cocktails which was well balanced. The waiter was super friendly and answered some of our questions. I ordered the sausage plate with sautéed kale(seems more Portland), sauerkraut and potato pancakes. The only slight complaint was that the encasing was rather tough to swallow. I chewed and chewed but realized the sausage is way better if you peel that off. We also tried the pierogi plate. Can I say heaven on a plate? They were soft, pillowy, savory and deliciously crisped up! I can’t wait to go back and try their other offerings. Maybe I’ll just go back for their pierogi.

Amazing place in SE Portland, headed over there for dinner after an excellent movie at the Baghdad Theater. They have excellent devilled eggs, one of the best porters Ive ever had(Zyweic) and really good Kilbasa. The service is really good and friendly, definitely going back to sample the other polish beers and their excellent food.

Cozy darkly lit bar on Hawthorne. It was pretty packed on a week night. The only option was the bar. No biggie. Being from Vancouver, Canada I’ve had friends that were from Eastern Europe. Pierogis are hard to find here, when they are in supermarkets or selective bars back home. We opted for the pierogis and the kielbasa plate. The pierogis were filled with the standard of potatoes and cheese topped with sour cream. We had one plate for the two of us. I could have easily had another plate. The savory wedzona kielbasa was very flavorful with just a hint of smokiness. Complemented well with sauerkraut and braised kale. If anyone has ever had Eastern European friends. It’s like a comforting bar, in which your good friend’s mother is making you all some comforting Eastern European fare!

The pierogi at Bar Dobre are to die for! So tasty. The fried cheese appetizer with tarter dill dipping sauce was good. The kielbasa was very flavorful and the sour kraut was homemade with a mellow tartness that was pleasing to the palate. I would happily eat there again. Can’t wait to return and try their other sausages, I wish they had a sample plate with all of their sausages on there.

If you like any of the following: potato pancakes, potato vodka, grain vodka, french fries, hamburgers, sausage, braised greens, or other stuff, then this place is going to blow your mind and leave you a pathetic, confused husk of what you up till now mistakenly considered yourself to be. Or it’ll be a really fun place for you to hang out, yeah, probably that. I’m a Czech American and Bar Dobre is like visiting my relatives except 3,000 times better in every way. I could write a long, in-depth review on their sauerkraut alone, but I’ll spare you and just say it’s outstanding. I have not tasted anything from Bar Dobre that was anything less than ridiculously, decadently top-shelf. It’s hard for me to describe exactly what makes this place so special, but I will say it’s a very good thing it’s not in Southwest or I would be a much fatter, drunker version of myself… I would pretty much become Chris Farley. That’s not good, so I’ll just stop by Bar Dobre when I can and basically become Bobby Moynihan.

Bar Dobre is very very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and the drink selection. The pierogi were good and kielbasa authentic, like the kind you get from the Polish delis in Southside Chicago. While there isn’t much variety to traditional Polish food, I would like to see a bit more items on the menu. Eastern Europeans in general do not eat food like this every day, much of it is for special occasions. For all of you reviewers out there claiming to understand what good Polish food is because you have Polish blood(I am half Polish so this goes for me too) — the plural word is PIEROGI. There is no «s». You ate several pierogi(NOTPIEROGIES). Please, please, please, for the love of Pope John Paul II and your deceased Polish relatives, please stop referring to them as PIEROGIES.

The Mister and I just moved from San Francisco to Portland, and on a whim, while shopping on Hawthorne street, decided to search for local Polish restaurants, something SF is lacking in. Holy hell, y’all. Bar Dobre is where it’s at. But don’t take my word for it. Allow the Mister — a Polish man from Detroit, who’s Great Grandma Jean was a rum runner during prohibition, carried a samurai sword for protection, was famous for her ability to string cuss words together, and made«the best goddamn pierogi this side of Poland», tell you himself. According to The Mister: Golabki: «Finally — a place that got the sauce right. This is the dish where most other Polish restaurants fail. Not this time. I want this in my mouth every day». Pierogi: «Nailed it. Other than Grandma Jean’s, the best I’ve ever had». Cucumber Salad: «Perfect. Just like Grandma used to make. She would kill me for saying that if she were still alive». Potato Pancakes: «When we were kids we were only allowed sour cream OR applesauce. I’m glad this restaurant understands I’m a man and want both. This is how potato pancakes should always be served». Wedzona Kielbasa: «I can see why this has won awards. Best I’ve ever had. Fucking awesome». As fas as the service goes, Christian, our server, was epic: warm, funny, attentive-but-not-pushy and knowledgeable. I’m picky about service, and he was amazing. The Chef/owner even came out personally to introduce himself and thank us for coming in. This was our first date night in Portland, and if this is any indication, we are going to love our new life in the Pacific Northwest. Keep rocking it, Bar Dobre; you’ve found two new patrons in us.

This small restaurant is awesome for accommodating my friends’ birthday party for a very short notice. There must have been almost 20 or more people that showed up for my pal’s birthday. And they are on point with how the drinks and food are being dropped. Service is A+. I love their pierorgies. It is perfect and tasty. A pal’s friend and I shared pâté and pickles. That’s another gem to have here. I am somewhat craving for Polish– Portland food now.

I’m torn. The Polish blood running through my veins is putting a lot of heat on my tastebuds to like Bar Dobre. Tastebuds are being stubborn, however. They’re steadfastly clinging to fond memories of my Great Aunt Mary’s cooking and are balking at admitting unproven newcomers. Long boring story short, I haven’t loved anything I’ve eaten here. Some it is not liking mushrooms and the pierogies are replete with them. That’s on me, I know. The potato pancakes have all AG-approved ingredients but did nothing for me. I didn’t even want to finish it. As for the pub-style fare, I’ve tried the fried cheese curds twice and, while I like the idea of the tempura batter, they come out excessively oily and the oil tastes less than fresh to me. The dill dipping sauce is dynamite, however. So where Dobre earns its stars with me is the fine selection of Polish vodkas and beers. As I’m fond of European beers, I usually go with the Perla. Drinks like a pilsner but it packs a punch, as one would hope. Were I interested in drinking exclusively, I’d be perfectly fine doing so here. It’s comfortable enough and the staff/owners are super nice. I just won’t set myself up for disappointment by ordering the food my GAM spoiled me on.

Great addition to the neighborhood! I have been to Bar Dobre not nearly enough since they opened down the street. They have a great, inventive cocktail list and a great space to hang out for happy hour. My favorite thing on the menu is the Chicken Sandwich but I have tasted several other items off the menu and they have all been good. Deficitly a good place to have right down the street.

I used to be a big fan of Bird Dog, the restaurant that was here before Bar Dobre but it turns out that this place has great food too. I had the Porkstrami Rueben, which at first I thought was a little pricey for a sandwich($ 11.50) but it was totally worth it. Their soup sounded good too but it was a little hot today for that.

Can I tell you how much I love this place? This place popped up near where I do some shopping and other routine items, so let’s say when it opened, I thought perfect just right for a pop in for a quick bite and a beverage. The atmosphere is just right and it doesn’t encourage the stroller crowd that is normally in every pub type of restaurant you enter into. Although, the last time I was here there was a couple with two small girls. It’s a bar, people, why are you bringing children to a bar. To be fair kids are allowed during particular times of the day it just doesn’t seem like it would be a place for kids but what do I know? At any rate, they have the best cocktails as far as originality and presentation. Thus far, i’ve tried a salad there as well as the half pound burger and fries. We had it split in two and my friend and i shared it. It’s a little easier to manage that way. Plus, you can still say you didn’t overeat and save room for dessert, which we didn’t but there will be a next time. All in all a good quiet place to relax and reflect on the day.
