My Wife and I were walking around Historic St. Johns on a cold day and felt like grabbing something hot and delicious. We were visiting and so we Unilocaled this place! The coffee shop is very small, but cute and very in line with the rest of Portland’s hipsterness. We ordered the house made Chai and took them to go. The Chai was a bit too spicy for us, but all around ok.

Worst service ever, the lady was not happy to be there and when I asked if there was banana splits she said no… Saw bananas in the back… So I went for an affogato and she said there was no vanilla, so I made a terrible rash decision and got chocolate with it… Never do that, paid $ 5 to throw it away. My friend got cookies and cream gelato, was awesome but $ 5 for a small cup? Not worth the trip

Affogato is an adorable little hole in the wall. Great gelato. Very Limited seating(2 tiny tables and a small bench area), but still very quaint and pleasant. Truly emblematic of St. John’s.

So I really wanted some gelato, not ice cream, but gelato. The BF and I were visiting a friend in St. John’s a few nights ago and I had been wanting to try this place out for a while, based on Unilocal reviews. We walked the few blocks over after dinner, so I could satisfy my craving. Easy to find in downtown St. John’s. I was actually kind of surprised that it was smaller than I expected, but still a nice atmosphere. The shop had a wonderful aroma of coffee, which I loved. I definitely want to go back and try both a Chai as well as a latte. Also, a really nice woman was working that night, and kindly answered my many questions, and told me that the Chai latte is probably the best she has every had, anywhere. But back to the gelato… they had five flavors, and I tried two: the Salted Caramel and the Mint Chocolate Chip. I really liked them both, but went for the Mint Chocolate Chip. I was in gelato heaven. I was amazed how really minty the flavor was and also how incredibly fresh. You could tell that they used fresh mint leaves, and a lot of them. It was so delicious — probably the best Mint Chocolate Chip gelato I have ever eaten. If you like that flavor, I would highly recommend it. Another bonus, was that they had a coffee flavor that my BF has been looking for, for a while — Mocha Java. We bought a pound(at a very reasonable price, $ 9.00) and he told me that this is some of the best coffee he has ever tasted. We will definitely go back and buy more of that. So glad I finally went here, and I can’t wait to go back for more gelato, coffee and lattes. If you are in the St. John’s area, totally worth a visit!

I just had the opportunity to taste the first batch of Affogato’s latest Fresh Mint Chunk w/fudge swirl gelato and for all of you mint/chocolate lovers out there, this is worth the trip! Simon makes everything from scratch– I even watched him pluck the mint leaves when it all began 3 days ago! There is no place in town like Affogato for gelato and coffee! Get the mint before it’s gone!!! Thanks for keepin’ it real, Simon!

One of my favorite coffee shops! This is in my neighborhood and I love walking here in the mornings for my almond milk coffee! The staff is great and I need to go back for some vegan gelato soon! Support local and check this place out!

Small little place. Looks like homemade ice cream. They also offer vegan ice cream. The blueberry buttermilk muffin made with duck eggs was great. Coffee is a local(Oregon) roasted coffee, which is a plus!

If you’re going to spend $ 5 on ice cream in Portland, this is the place to do it. I had the milk chocolate stracciatella as an affogato and it was quite good. I think my brother had his in one bite.

Favorite gelato and favorite coffee all at one place! Love this gem. Salted caramel is the best gelato for affogato IMHO. We buy their coffee beans for our home brew too.

Cute little space, and hands down the best coffee I’ve ever had. Beyond impressed. Super friendly and personable employees as well. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Love that they have a vegan option for their gelato as well! Would love to see more vegan options in the future!

I absolutely LOVE coming here. Coffee shops can be pretentious and nerve wracking, but Affogato’s menu is easy to read and the folks who work there are kind and approachable. Beyond that, their coffee is the best I’ve ever had. Since I first walked in on a whim at the St John’s Parade, I now seize any excuse to treat myself to an almond milk latte. Plus that vegan coconut stracciatella is like WHOA!

This is my favorite coffee shop in St Johns. They sell coffee, not 5000 coffee — type drinks, just coffee. They are open late, they are reasonably priced, the coffee is GOOD, and it’s organic. Fav blend: mocha java.

My go-to place for coffee beans and espresso. Best prices in town. I just wish they still had muffins.

It’s a pretty small place so I usually sit outside or get something to go since there are only about 3 tables. The coffee is pretty good but the best part of this place is the blueberry muffin made with quail eggs(so moist and tasty) and the gelato. The salted caramel is the BEST! The employees are always nice and wiling to let you sample all the flavors if you want.

I am ADDICTED to their coffee! They are a direct(maybe the only in PDX?) supplier for Equator coffee out of Eugene. Only $ 9 a pound, and so very good. My new re-up.

I walked from home into St. Johns today to do some banking, visited St. Johns Farmer’s Market, and ended up wandering around looking for more spots to explore and prolong this perfectly wonderful early Fall sunny Saturday. I hated to go(dragging my feet), but it was time to go home. How do I end my wanderings on a high point just so I’ll have perfect memories and not darken the day I wondered? Of course, Affogato! I couldn’t get one of the outdoor tables, unfortunately, but I found the interior very attractive and relaxing. I ordered a regular Salted Caramel gelato with waffle cone. The menus are hand-chalked with large lettering and hung low enough that it was all very easy to read and no need to use smaller printed menus; very nice. The counter person was charming and totally natural and complimented me on my ease in ordering my ice cream treat, but when you’re an ice cream freak, ordering ice cream clearly is a highly-honed skill. The Salted Caramel gelato was the obvious choice for me, but the«Lime In The Coconut» flavor was tempting as well(especially naming the ice cream after one of Harry Nilsson’s songs) nearly sealed the deal, but the Salted Caramel finally won the day. Such heaven with perfectly balance of flavor. I really savored this gelato. The waffle cone was not too soft and not too crisp and complemented the ice cream to a «T.» I think the Salted Caramel is at least at the same level or even better than this flavor I sampled at Salt and Straw. It’s all obviously a labor of love. Affogato also serves what looks to be quality coffee and coffee drinks, so this would also be a great stopover for that morning mix! As I was getting ready to leave, I spotted another place to visit in the near future, so let’s hope we have a few more Saturdays like this in which to enjoy all that is wonderful about Fall and wandering about St. John’s. In the meantime, I know where I’m coming back to when it’s time to indulge my ice cream fetish.

Have you had Affogato? It’s when you take a double espresso and(delightfully) cut the bitterness by pouring it over ice cream or gelato. Affogato makes small batches of 5 gelatos in house. Flavors rotate, but you can count on delicious options. This is my favorite treat to keep me going on a nice afternoon. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the coffee and espresso is great if you’re not into sweets. There is no reason to stay away!

I stopped by this cute little shop on the recommendation of a bank teller. The ambiance of the place is adorable. Its a very cute hole in the wall with a great atmosphere. I went in for gellato. I was super happy with how the flavors turned out, it was amazingly delicious. I was just slightly disappointed with how expensive it was.

The name says it all. This place makes amazing affogato and espresso. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Very cozy /rustic feel with large wooden picnic tables outside. Love it! Also you can order Eugene roasted coffee from around the world.
