Lovely atmosphere and delicious vegetarian biscuits and gravy.

This food at AND was just okay for me. I was here for brunch and I wouldn’t go back. I had a pumpkin cheesecake waffle that was not as crispy as I would have liked. I also split the Hashtastic with my dining partner. It was mostly potatoes, hardly any butternut squash or Brussels sprouts, although the cashew cream was yummy. The service is great and the space is adorable with some really great art.

Be patient through the wait for a table and you’ll be rewarded with excellent food. Server only came around for refills once and that was when he brought us the check. But other than that I would highly recommend this place!

We were so excited to go here and eat. The menu is so exciting and there’s so many options. We were originally going to split the pumpkin cheesecake waffle along with our order but we knew we wouldn’t be able to finish everything. So we ended up just getting the Full Nest and the Hot Nest which was really tough to narrow down two options. Both were delicious and we finished them. Perfect sizing. The nests are so cute and the tofu scramble is delicious. Fun little space, good atmosphere. Loved it. Would come back to try more options.

They’re baaaacckkk! Last few times in have been tasty and friendly. It makes me so damn happy when owners make much needed changes to their restaurants. I appreciate being heard and will continue to be a regular patron of AND. Best vegan and gluten free breakfasts in Portland!

A few people mentioned that I should check out A N D Café since I had never been there. The food was ok, but I think people set my expectations too high for a fantastic experience that reality didn’t quite match. Maybe the people I know that have been there were high at the time so everything seemed really good to them. I had the Reuben with a side of the nests and a root beer float. The float was underwhelming. It was root beer with a petrified lump of something they claimed was vegan ice cream in it. It was overflowing when he brought it to the table(he even pointed it out to me, so he knew), and instead of, oh, I don’t know, bringing it back to the kitchen to fix it he just plopped it down onto the table into a puddle and then put a soggy napkin under it. I’ll never win any cooking competitions, but if I can make a root beer float better than a professional eatery then there’s something wrong. The nests were good, I liked the scrambled tofu on top. They weren’t hot or even warm by the time I got them, though. The Reuben was pretty good; the seitan and flavorings were solid. But I can get a good vegan Reuben at a different place where I can get better service and where they welcome my service dog. I don’t like to go to new places with my service dog because sometimes I get indirect(or even direct) hassles about him. It’s ironic how many veg people claim to love animals but get all judgmental about service animals and the people who legitimately need them. I showed up to A N D and put my name on the list for a table. The main server then came out and told me to take a seat at a table outside. I said I wanted to sit inside, and that my dog was a service dog. He paused, gave me the blatantly skeptical side eye, and about five minutes later put me at a table inside. It seemed to me like he was trying to rush me out of there, and not because they needed the table(they didn’t) but because of my dog. He dropped off the check and I had to ask if it was ok if I got a slice of the Rawdacious cheesecake, something a customer shouldn’t have to do(request to add things to the bill without being offered). My dog literally makes zero noise, and most people don’t even notice him because he’s camouflaged in his carry bag. I wouldn’t go places with him if he was a disruption to others or an asshole in any way, so not sure what trauma the staff at A N D has suffered in the past to make them so antagonistic towards me. I read my magazine quietly while eating, and the only thing I did«wrong» was leave a 23% tip… Ironically there was a family with two loud kids and one of those annoying, unnecessary SUV strollers who got nothing but smiles from the A N D staff. I’ve seen people on Fantasy Island get less enthusiasm from Mr. Rourke when they land on the island than when this family was leaving A N D. When I left I was totally ignored, as if turning his back to me was the only thing he could do to keep from spitting on me. Because of that I wouldn’t go back to A N D. I also didn’t understand why it was mostly vegan, with vegan mozzarella, but they use real cheddar cheese and eggs in some things.

YUM! As a newbie vegan, I’ll admit that I’ve been missing those big, «eggs-on-top» weekend breakfasts that used to be a staple of my omnivorous life. Granted, I’m quickly learning that it’s not that hard to create hearty vegan food at home, but when I’m in the mood to let someone else do the cooking, it can be hard to find a spot that makes both me and my omnivore husband happy. I was completely happy with my experience at A N D Café. It’s a tiny, low-key spot that seems to have a really solid menu(mind you, this judgment is from a single experience there, but judging from our food and the looks of the food others were eating, there don’t appear to be many duds). I had the vegan breakfast burrito, and it was completely delicious and gigantic, as a breakfast burrito should be. It hit all the right notes, and I found myself doing a little dance in my seat as I ate it. My husband had one of the specials – a vegan take on the crunch wrap. I had a bite, and it was similarly tasty. Further, I would be remiss to omit the bloody Mary options here. Mine – the spicy one – was easily one of the better bloody Mary’s I’ve had. It’s not quite at Broder status, but it was super tasty in its own right, and it was decently spicy – a really pleasant kick. I plan to make this place a regular in our brunch rotation. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone, vegan or otherwise.

Warning: the mushroom waffles are very filling. Whole grain, organic, the works. They come with vegan ranch and an egg or tofu. We arrived on a cold morning and they were even serving the people waiting in line outside coffee for them to warm up! Good variety of choices on the menu and of course, friendly staff.

Returned after two years with similar experience: meh. The bacon quesadilla was good, not great, and portion for $ 9 was small. Tiny glass of Pomegranate juice is $ 2.50. Service has tinge of «I don’t care if you’re here or not», but not rude. There’s a few stars on the menu, but just average overall in a town with better veggie offerings.

Beautiful little place around Mt Tabor in Portland! The Café serves delicious vegan and vegetarian meals while staying pretty healthy. Especially good was the breakfast burrito. Don’t get fooled by the pumkin cheesecake waffle though. It’s really just a waffle with pumpkin spice and doesn’t bring many cheesecake attributes with it. Still good but misleading name. If you get a chance, try the jackfruit bacon — even for me as a(real) bacon lover it was astonishing close to the meaty taste.

After driving 3 hours on empty stomachs to get to Portland, driving up to this café was like a mirage of water in the desert. Small, eclectic, and adorable café with good coffee and even better food. The staff is witty, the food is made to order, and with a only a few spots for customers you don’t have to wait too long for your meal. Don’t come here if you’re impatient as you may have to wait for a seat, but your patience will pay off!

So very excellent — as a vegetarian it is alway awesome to me to walk into a restaurant and peruse a menu and have so very many choices of what I might order. How to decide? After lots of thought we ordered a corn waffle topped with bananas and sweet syrup, and a lovely hash of potatoes, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, kale, a creamy began sauce, and whatnot. The coffee was excellent too, and the waiter was friendly and patient. Come early, the tables begin to fill up for brunch and it is a small to middling sized place.

This place is exactly what I wanted in a rainy weekday lunch joint near the hospital. I had the chili waffle special(vegan and gf) which was so good I forced myself to eat the whole thing even though I was pleasantly full early on. What seems like a rarity in vegan food. Service was great, space is cute(small — 7 tables and a counter) and the drink list looks awesome. Will have to come visit again sometime for brunch when I’m not on my way to work. Can’t wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

A N D is seriously yum for everyone, and especially yum for all your vegan and vegetarian brothers and sisters. You know how a tofu scramble never really sounds that appetizing? Well, this place not only makes it sound appetizing on the menu, but they also make it look yummy on the plate and taste delicious on your fork and in your mouth. Seriously — as a periodic veg/vegan myself, I don’t believe I’d ever enjoyed a tofu scramble as thoroughly as I did before I had one from A N D. The atmosphere is nice and cute, too — it’s everything you want from a cozy neighborhood breakfast/brunch spot, complete with darling little tables and friendly service. It is small, though, so the wait can get a tad long for the roll-out-of-bed set, but it’s nothing when compared with Portland’s more pretentious brunch staples. The only thing that could make this place better is if they opened earlier — as an up-before-the-sunner, waiting until 9 or 10 to eat breakfast is basically a recipe for a very hangry Sarah. It could also do with some patio seating in the summertime! I predict an expansion in this place’s future.

This is a cute place with friendly staff and good coffee. Let me preface my review by disclosing that I am an omnivore and eat vegetarian ever once in a while. I had the blue plate, which was ‘sausage’, potato ‘nests’ with eggs and biscuits with gravy. Each covered about 1⁄3 of the plate. It took three bites of the ‘sausage’ to figure out just what it was. It looked more like a pancake than sausage and the as sweet. Not a maple sweetness, it was just way more sweet than savory. On the third bite I finally got just a hint of sausage seasoning. While the biscuits were just ok, and the gravy had a good consistency — it tasted of nothing! No flavor. It was simply warm, moist and brown, it was just a visual component to the dish. The potato ‘nest’ was a puck shape, not a nest shape. But maybe ‘nest’ was suppose to refer to a light and airy construction. It was neither light nor airy. It was obvious that these had been cooked earlier and left in a warmer, as they were dense, stale and hard. Once again there was no flavor, no seasoning. The eggs would have funny if they weren’t so sad. They were pucks that you usually only see on a McBreakfast sandwich. What I’d expect at a cheap fast food place not a Resturant charging this price. Here I would expect properly poached eggs — not ones that look like they came out of an egg poaching machine. Even with that, one was way over cooked and the other was under cooked. My take away here is that the cooks don’t care. Simply following a memorized formula. They are cooking without heart and are not tasting what they are cooking. Vegetarian food is not a compromise! It can and should be done well and be flavorsome!

My friends and I really enjoyed our brunch at this café! At first I was a little skeptical because it appeared that they had no actual stove or grill. They were cooking everything on a counter with hot plates and a portable burner which totally amazed me. However, even with no actual stove the food came out very tasty! The menu clearly states everything is made vegan except cheddar and poached eggs, so you’ll need to specify if you want vegan. Below is what we ordered(all vegan): — Full Nest — 3 hashbrown nests, veggies, herb tofu, sausage, hollandaise with biscuit — this was delicious! It reminded me of a benedict but with hashbrowns instead of English muffins. Loved it! — Mushroom Melt Waffle — stuffed with mushrooms, spinach, mozzarella topped with zesty ranch and tofu — my friends and I could not stop raving about this savory waffle! It was delicious and we think it was made with some coconut flour which we loved! — Pumpkin Cheesecake Waffle — organic pumpkin, butter, sweet cream, hazelnuts, powdered sugar — I saved this as my dessert and barely had any room to finish. They use the same waffle batter for both the savory and sweet waffles and we really enjoyed the waffles. I would definitely return again to A.N.D Café next time I’m in PDX!

The reviewer who mentioned the ODOR here is totally right. Serious bummer. MAJORUNPLEASANTODOR. I was served a PLATEOFDELICIOUS and a GLASSOFDELICIOUS by the NICESTPEOPLE but they were affected by the odor. It smells somewhat like burnt plastic. It’s a chemical odor that smells nothing like food. I had the BLUECORNWAFFLE stuffed with veg sausage and other things, topped with gravy. Overly generous portion. I’d rather pay less and get less. WOW was it good, and for a gluten-free waffle especially fantastic and fluffy. Kombucha on tap here is great too, some of the best I’ve had. I would return again and again and even be a regular, but I’d like them to be able to work out the chemical odor first. I can’t help but wonder if those fumes are negatively affecting those who work there. My hair smelled like it all day long.
