HQ Salon and Spa

Wow, I’m going to say these other reviews were paid for. I went there, got an ok haircut for way too expensive, then had to hear the stylist «janean» basically tell me how much of a worthless person I was for not spending 200 dollars on purology. When I had told her ten times that I have used it and didn’t like it, she just kept telling me I needed to try it again. It literally got to the point I asked her to stop talking about it. She’s like a pushy car salesman. And believe me, it’s not like I use crappy stuff on my hair, which is what I told her, then she proceeded to tell me that what I use (matrix) sucked as well. Disappointing

LOVE this place!!! They’ll remember who you are, and I’ve always had the best hair cuts, manicures, facials, and massages… The best thing– memberships!!! It’s $ 49 a month and includes one massage, pedicure, or facial, and then you get discounts for all other spa or salon services, and your guests can receive a service with you at the same price… The only downside– they used to serve wine and no longer can, but they will for you on special occasions or when they have events and fundraisers.

I recently relocated from Los Angeles to Kalamazoo and was looking for a new stylist. My freind raved about HQ so I had to check it out for myself.
Very positive professional energy as soon as I walked in, my coat was taken and I was handed a beverage of choice. If you are like me, one of the best things about getting a haircut is the shampoo. A lot of times at other salons, this process tends to be rushed or consist of water getting splashed in your ear. My stylist, Emily gave me the best shampoo and scalp massage I’d ever had! I was litterally ready for a nap afterwards. She gave me the exact haircut that I wanted and was so pleasant to talk to throughout the process. She will definitely be my stylist from now on.
In addition, the floor plan and design of the salon was very attractive.

This has become one of new favorite salons, which happens to be on the opposite side of the state, so there’s no chance I would cheat on my favorite salon in the SE Michigan area. One of the things that I often dread is to pull up to a new salon then I discover it’s dark and dingy, showing lack of care. I understand a total remodel is expensive, but even a new coat of paints helps. ANYWAY, HQ was anything but dark and dingy. It was very clean and well lit. My MIL and I were greeted right away as soon as we stepped in the door, which puts a new customer at ease.
The prices at HQ aren’t half bad either. My MIL got a 15 minute hand massage and a 15 minute chair massage for head and neck (neither are listed on the website) and that was $ 30. I got a shellac manicure and it was only $ 35. And, literally, the shellac mani was so well done, it lasted a full month without any chipping! I wish I could tell you the name of the lady that did my nails, but it’s really a moot point now, as she was moving a way 3 weeks later. Just by watching the customers, they all seem very pleased with the services they’re getting, I’m sure whoever does my nails next time will do just as well. Highly recommended.

I had a great experience at HQ Spa. I arrived early and enjoyed looking around the front area. They even invited me to use one of the message chairs while I waited. Sadly, I can’t remember the girl’s name that did my up-​do (wish there was a way to look her up on the website — makes me wonder about the turn over at the spa), but it looked really good. I was glad that it didn’t look like it was glued to my head, but moved. Really enjoyed the vibe of the spa and wish it was closer to me!

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago… and will definitely be back. Fabulous customer service, from the moment you walk in until you leave, reasonable prices, talented staff, I have only positives!

I’ve been here on several occasions and see Lindsay. She is fabulous and I would recommend her to anyone new to area or anyone looking for a stylist. The staff here are always friendly and the salon interior is great as well. Can’t beat a glass of wine while processing and reading people magazine!

I’ve been coming to HQ for years and I have never had a bad experience. From the moment you walk in the door Hope and Angela greet you with a smile, take your coat, and get you something to drink. It is a very comfortable salon that has a friendly, professional feel to it. My stylist, Mandi has transformed my hair & I Love it. She custom creates my color, everytime I get it dyed, and it looks amazing. She is a redken certified stylist, which is rare to find in Kalmazoo. What I really love about her doing my hair is she takes her time. Never have I felt rushed in her chair, and she is always giving me new ideas & answering any questions I have. It is obvious she loves her job & is passionate about what she does. I also receive waxing services at hq, they also take their time & do a great job with that too! HQ cares a lot about their guests, you will defiantly be pamperd and taken care of, no matter what service you are receiving.

Is HQ the new Erbelli’s on Unilocal with its shady, shady reviews? There are seven five star reviews, only one of which is by a Unilocaler who has reviewed other things and isn’t brand new. The six reviews were all posted in the last two days and will be filtered any minute now. There are currently thirteen filtered reviews plus two that violated the terms of service. Come on, HQ. We’re not stupid. We see what you’re doing. Don’t do it; it’s tacky.
EDIT: I found out what’s going on. HQ is offering $ 10 off if you write a Unilocal review or like them on Facebook. I still think that’s tacky.

Now for my actual review. I’ve been to HQ three times. When I first moved to Kalamazoo, Melanie came highly recommended. I was disappointed with my first haircut – it was as uninspired as a cut you’d get from Supercuts but twice the price. I went again because a coworker kept raving about how great she is, and my second cut was just as disappointing. I tried another stylist (unfortunately, can’t remember her name) with similar results. I’d go back here for trims, but I wouldn’t trust them to try something new on my hair. It could just be that they don’t cut a lot of Asian hair, so they didn’t know how to work with the texture, but that shouldn’t be an excuse.
Why they get more than one star: the salon itself is clean, the receptionist is always friendly, and parking’s a breeze.

Awesome environment. Mandi does my hair regularly and she is by far the best. Everyone there is super friendly and open to help you. Mandi gives my hair the potential to have a good hair day every day. She is exceptional with color. I have been to a few other places before and I have never found someone as friendly and suggestive as mandi. I highly highly recommend her and everyone in the salon.

HQ is clean, welcoming and filled with passionate people who do their job well. I had a great experience recently with Karen. She help me add a little punk rock city life to my mid west haircut of the last ten years. The receptionist was very courteous and on top of things as well. The coffee-​tea-​water area is great for those waiting and i found the product there to be reasonable priced — redken –11 bucks! It seemed like a lot of professional people doing cool things! I will definitely be back. Mens haircut — 23. Women’s probably 40 and up! Thanks HQ!
