My family and I have eaten here quite a few times and we’ve never had a bad meal. It was a little odd the first time when we walked in and all the food was behind glass windows, but the food is amazing! I always get the Ox tails when they’re on the menu(a little pricey, but they aren’t everywhere and TOTALLY worth it) smothered in gravy over white rice. The squash casserole is GREAT(and I hate squash casserole). We came in late in the evening one time and they fried my daughter up a fresh batch of chicken. Try this wonderful, local food place! If you love good, from the heart food, this is it!

I have eaten here once before and realized it was good THEN, but at that time I was not a Unilocalpie(my very own made-up word for Unilocal users). The hubby and I decided to grab a to-go bite from here, tonight. My husband spent what seemed like eternity to decide what he wanted, and me… well, I just sat there surveying the multiple choices from country fried steak to seafood. With choices such as a large meal(which consist of 1 neat &3 sides) or a medium(you get one less side on the medium meal), OPTIONSAREPLENTIFUL!!! I eventually chose fried chicken, Lima beans and sweet potato soufflé. Hungry like a WOLF I began to nibble on my food while the hubbz drove. I was instantaneously reminded of some of the things my Mom and Grandma made. The food here is definitely made with time and love. I know that sounds hella cliché, but eat there… you’ll taste my truth! Wooden tables with oversized reclined matching chairs aligns the décor with the cooking. You truly feel at home especially after speaktastefullyne of the many friendly servers/waitresses. I have to be fair in saying that I am not a fan of the décor and inside looks like it would be cramped on a day when they are crowded… but the food that is served here is simply, yet tastefully, southern cooking.

Yum! That’s it — real southern cooking that could have come from my grandmas kitchen. If you want to pay 3−4x the cost of a plate here, go to Paula Deen’s Lady and Two Sons. But it won’t taste quite as good. Been to both — treat yourself and eat here. No frills and just really good food! Chicken livers were divine… just sayin’!

Delicious. I was weary bc the food looked old when we walked in but of course anything left open café style will unless a fast turn around. It was the end of the day and they were almost closed so no I do not know how long the food was out or when it was last made. Whatever, I was very hungry lol. We were all very satisfied with our dinners! I got a cheeseburger which they made fresh and chicken fingers for my daughter, also made fresh. Sides included Collard greens with Mac and cheese. My hubby got the shrimp which was on the café line. Everything tasted great, fresh, and full of flavor. Low key and real food. We really enjoyed it. Will def be back! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the presentation of the food at first glance. U can’t judge a book by it’s cover. I highly recommend!

This is the best soul food I have eaten that didn’t come out of my grandmother’s kitchen! I got the buffet so that I can taste a little of everything. Me and my family was very happy. Even dessert comes with the meal. I think Angels are cooking the food! Even my picky 5 year old left satisfied!

This is a tough call. I didn’t particularly like the food, but my wife did. It is displayed cafeteria style, behind a glass storefront. If you eat in, you are basically eating in an enclosed porch. The people are very pleasant. To me, however, the food was mediocre. Eh.

Very nice owner. Talked me through all the offerings since she could tell I’ve never been there before. Everything was Delicious!

Yeah it looks a little sketch, but it is delicious and very conveniently located across the street from my apartment. They have everything Southern and greasy that you could ever possibly want, and more. The selection was so huge that my head was spinning and I changed my choices about 5 times before I was ready to order via their old-school intercom system. The set-up is interesting, reminding me of a cafeteria mixed with a jail… not sure how I feel about that haha. The owner is very nice and apologized profusely when she wasn’t open on time on a Sunday. Definitely an underrated place that’s unfortunately out in the middle of nowhere for most folks. Stop by if you’re in the area and craving some down-home cookin’ :)

Wow — try the squash casserole — turkey wings, collards all great also. Minuses: Fried chicken disappointing and lemonade from a mix. I’ll come back & try the oxtail a next time.

I don’t know what to say about this place other then outstanding! It’s cafeteria style serving but everything was hot and fresh. Smothered chicken was outstanding along with the ox tail mac & cheese and greens. Oh and make sure to grab a piece a cake for the road!

I came because of the Unilocal reviews and proximity to my hotel. This is Southern fried food in all it’s glory. Fried chicken Pork chops(a little extra I think) Various meats Black eyed peas Squash casserole(they were out when I was there) Okra and tomato Cornbread Red velvet cake Chocolate cake Pound cake Five flavor cake There is more on the menu but this is a start to get you thinking. The offerings are in a buffet type setting, but the employees scoop out the buffet for you behind glass. In fact much if this is behind glass. You order using an intercom system and it all gets out into styrofoam clams. Easy for takeout, which is a big part of the business, but not great for the environment and not nice if you are eating at one of the 8 or so tables. I don’t know much about fried chicken, but I thought this was great. I also had the okra and tomato side which I loved. But if you don’t care for okra this may not be for you. My other side(you get 2 with the«medium buffet») was black eyes peas which were good, at least to me. They were not too mushy and had some nice flavor. Each plate comes with a corn muffin which, thankfully not huge, was very good. I had 2 pieces of chicken, both breast. They were out of a few things, happens when you make fresh daily I suppose. Im and I cane after lunchtime and before dinner time so I think some things were being made as I was there. Id stop here again without hesitation. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. But id come at lunch or dinner and risk a line just to be able to have a bite of the squash casserole. Easy parking.

I have only 2 complaints: 1. They aren’t open 24 hours/365 days a year. 2. I couldn’t take them with me back to Jersey!!! My family is from the area and I have had my share of southern cooking, believe me when I say: If you pass this place by, you have made a grievous mistake! Unfortunately, we did not have the time to try everything we wanted, but the items my husband and I tried both visits were excellent. We both highly recommend the squash casserole and sweet potato soufflé. We didn’t try the Brunswick Stew as suggested, but if it’s anything like the stew beef I tried. man oh man! The service was proffesional and quick as well. The owner took time to explain the menu. We will make it our stop every time we are in Ga.

This little shack 2 miles west off I-95 is a traveling Unilocalers dream spot! Local homemade southern-style soul food is cooked to perfection. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside and flowing with juices within. The collards greens are probably the BEST I’ve had & I’m a NYer living in the south for 15 years, so I know my food AND my ‘greens!’ Make sure you don’t miss out on the squash casserole. Unbelievably delicious! The corn bread comes with dinners and is moist & fluffy. No table service but Val & the girls are as sweet as their sweet tea! Just walk up to the window & order with the talkie button. Go there & you’ll see what I mean. If you’re driving down I-95 just south of Manning this is a MUSTSTOP!!!

Completing our southern vacation at one of our most favorite foodie stops: 21 Shortstop, for some collard greens, smothered pork chops, okra, shrimp and crab fried rice, and fried fish fillets. Oh, I can’t forget the peach cobbler and sweat tea. Yums x2!

Just a few miles off of 95. Well worth the detour. The fried chicken is excellent as are the smothered pork chops. I could have made a meal out of the sides. Save room for dessert.

Where did this place turn up from? It’s in the middle of NOWHERE! But the food was AMAZING. We walked in this shack. There are a few high top unfinished tables that each sat 2 in the hallway to the right. To the left is a long high counter. Behind the soundproof glass counter is a cafeteria style display of food and sides. Extremely clean. We didn’t know what to order. The girl behind the glass counter came out with 8 different tastings without us even asking, to help us decide on what to get. So friendly she was. It turns out her mother is the owner. We ended up getting friend chicken(excellent though not the best we’ve had), pot roast(very tasty and not commonly dry as elsewhere), squash casserole(tastes like stuffing), collard greens(the best for us so far), and blueberry cobbler(was eh ok). Best of all can’t beat the price. An amazing out of the way place for good ol southern comfort food.

Had oxtail with 3 sides. The butter beans were good, as was the oxtail. The other two sides were inedible: the black eyed peas were gritty(as if sand was a major ingredient), the squash casserole was a tasteless, mushy mess. The chicken fried steak and cabbage were fine.

If you like good olé, down to earth home cookin’, then you’ll love this roadside food stand with its walk up ordering windows and screened-in dining porch. There’s a special entrée served every day of the week here, with an ample selection of soul food side dishes to accompany – including cornbread. It’s ALL good, including the collared greens, cabbage, corn, okra, squash casserole, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rice, and more … Turkey legs? I never thought of ordering them at a restaurant much less seen them served anywhere, but here they are a culinary delight, elevated to the level of delicacy. The meat just falls off the bone. Of course, the oxtails are a favorite here, too – for those in the know. But there’s a whole lot more good southern-style eatin’ to be had, including an amazingly good meatloaf, barbecued ribs, seafood, and fried chicken so good that it will make you wanna’ slap your momma … You can tell that there is something special put into the food here. It’s not something that you can pull from a shelf and sprinkle on, either. It’s something more ethereal, a result of recipes that are handed down through generations and then nurtured by the love and caring that goes into the meal, well prepared. When it comes to good food, that truly is a «touch of soul.»
