It’s great if you happen to stubble upon it. It’s the festivity that Port Washington has every year to celebrate fishing in all its glory. However it has transformed into senseless drinking and teens and old bikers out on the prowl for a one way ticket to absolutely nowhere. There’s a parade. There’s also dj’s and bands who have never heard of a sound check. And there’s the bus shuttles which cart all the drunkards around to avoid them from killing each other. Yes. Port Fish Day. Thank you for being only one day.

Fish Day!!! What’s not to love!!! It’s Port Washington’s summer festival that celebrates a Wisconsin favorite: the Fish Fry. Shuttle buses run up and down the main streets so parking isn’t a huge issue. I’ve been to this festival 4+ times now and have always found street parking close enough to walk. The local shops tend to stay open later than normal for the festival, which is great for visitors. There is no entry fee for the festival, however carry-ins are not permitted. Prices this year(2014) were $ 7 for the fish and chips, $ 4 Miller Lite, $ 5 Redd’s Apple Ale… so a little on the pricier side but the fish fry was pretty delicious. They have a midway with some rides and carnival games. There are several stages with live music. The main stage usually features some 80’s or 90’s act and does cost a couple dollars, this year it was $ 5 for the main stage. I think it is standing room only. My favorite part of Fish Day is the fireworks. They are awesome and it is easy to get«front row» seating. They are launched from what use to be the old storage ground for coal at the We Energies generation station, which is across the small harbor from the festivities. In the morning there is an 8k race that is pretty challenging and then a ridiculous parade around 10am. I hope to run the race again next year and stay for the parade because it is entertaining! I really enjoy this festival and recommend the race to my fellow runners. I will be back next year! :D

We just stopped in for a short visit and were glad we did. Fish fry was good but hella pricey!!! Come on! mini donuts were good too Music we heard was excellent. They had a good use of space, with tent tucked under trees and along the water. We want early enough to miss what I heard can be a serious drunk fest. We will go again and stay for what I hear are great fireworks.

One of my favorite things about living here and exploring Wisconsin is all the small town festivals. My wife and I took the short drive North to Port Washington for the«World’s Largest One Day Outdoor Fish Fry». THEEVENTISFREE! THEEVENTISONEDAYONLY. We parked in a lot north of town near I-43 and rode the free shuttle service to the event.(Check the website for route stops!) We checked out the festival which runs the length north and south of appropriately named«Lake Park». We got some fried potato coins but passed on the fish. There are Sysco trucks everywhere and the fish looked like Long John Silvers. Bottled waters were $ 1.50. We hiked up the hill to Upper Lake Park where the arts and craft vendors were. There were some really talented local artists selling at affordable price points. Check out the view of Lake Michigan and the marina from up there! There were helicopter rides going on so the grounds get buzzed every few minutes. There was live music at stages around the grounds. We listened to the Madpolecats for a bit. TIPS: This review is really disjointed so please check out the event website for information that makes sense. Bring sun screen and walking shoes. There are information booths and ATMs around the festival. We’re headed to Festa Italiana in Milwaukee next. Two festivals in one day!
