Volcano View Hedgehogs

I’ve had difficulties with this business since the start. Like the previous review the first hurdle was getting responses back from them. They are absolutely terrible at communication, and this is coming from a fellow business owner.
They knew I was flying in from out of state and told me it would be all good and encouraged a deposit. I put my deposit down and emailed them to make sure they got it and I was on their list. I had gotten no response for quite some time, followed up multiple times until I got a response that their would be no available hedgehogs at the time of my visit. I was very upset, but was still willing to purchase a decent amount of supplies going above $ 100, and just wanted my deposit to go to that instead as it was their communication problem that warranted me not being able to take home a hedgehog. Seeing as I was unsure when my next trip would be and didn’t want to just sit on the waiting list for months.
They, again, took forever to reply and my trip was coming up fast, I tried facebook messaging them, and emailing again, they refuse to give any phone number and aren’t willing to call from a *67 number either.
Now I am out $ 50 with no apology, no hedgehog, and no supplies, which they weren’t willing to let me purchase with the money they took even though it was months in advance and their fault, I am still waiting on a final reply from them.
I would NEVER recommend for anyone to go through them, if you do, then be sure to NOT put down a deposit, and you will be guaranteed horrific communication from them.

Volcano View Hedgehogs is an excellent breeder. I purchased my hedgehog from them in June, and was very happy with the experience. Jean and Nick were very thorough, teaching me how to handle my hedgie, as well as giving me tips on socializing him, feeding him, and ensuring that the transition to his new home went as smoothly as possible. However, I’m giving VVH ⁴⁄₅ stars because of their guarantee for «24÷7» service after you purchase a hedgehog. Since purchasing my hedgehog, I’ve sent a handful of emails to Jean and Nick, some with general inquiries, but one recently where I was seeking advice, as my hedgehog began behaving in an unusual way. It was incredibly difficult to receive a response from them. For my earlier emails, I did not receive a response until I sent a follow up email about a week after the original, and I have not heard back from the email I sent two weeks ago. Overall, a good experience, but I think that Volcano View should perhaps rethink offering a guarantee if they do not respond to customer’s emails.

I’ve unfortunately not yet been able to purchase a hedgehog from Volcano View yet, as I’m quite far away. However, I have had many positive experiences with Jean and Nick, and purchasing from their Etsy shop and their website.
Jean and Nick are very well versed in the world of hedgehogs. Jean’s food list (that she shares freely) is the most comprehensive that you can find anywhere, and spans foods for all ranges of hedgehog weights and needs. I’ve struggled with my older hog and her weight throughout my time having her as she was raised on very unhealthy food, and Jean has been so helpful with advice for food mixes, and kibble changes, as well as discussing weights and calming my fears. It’s obvious she cares about the animals as a whole, and not just the ones that she sells.
It became clear that my little chunk had outgrown her wheel, and I purchased a Volcano Red 11″ wheel from Volcano View’s etsy shop, after talking with Jean about my options (larger bucket wheel than I had currently or cake top wheel) and Jean covered all the bases with me, as well as telling me it would be no issue to ensure the wheel I purchased fit inside the cage that I have (and it does, Nick made sure of it!). I received my wheel much faster than anticipated, (2 days after being shipped, and it was shipped within 4 days of placing my order!) and it was the best purchase I could have made for my hog. She has run on it every night since it arrived and that combined with her new diet makes me feel confident that she will be at a healthy weight in no time. Jean also hid a scale in the package with my wheel, as I had been fighting for some time with the one that I bought, and it had been a huge frustration, as well as sneaking a small cuddle sac made from fabric that looked like candy sprinkles, because as she said, she had it, and my hogs name is Sprinkles, and «they were clearly meant to be». There was no need for her to go above and beyond and share extra items with me, other than she simply just cares for the well being for all hedgies. Her warm heart and generosity throughout my time of dealing with her ensures I will be a Volcano View customer for as long as I have hedgehogs, and I very much hope to one day be able to call one of her priceless gorgeous babies (some of the darkest in the country, with the very best lines btw) my very own.
